By time you receive this I will have seen many of you at the fair. I am sure this fair has brought forth many memories and fun times amongst friends. Every day I say to myself, I m blessed and thrilled to work with such an amazing group of homemakers. The talents and gifts showcased during the fair are amongst the best. I want to encourage everyone to continue in your craft/hobby. In fact, I even encourage you to pick up a new craft, if your schedule permits. While you build up your craft, do not worry about dinner. I have attached a quick recipe that is sure to cut down your time in the kitchen. (See page 4 of newsletter.) 2 2 Club News and Notes: Allspice traveled to Ferndale to eat at an Amish House for their annual Summer Fling in June; Better Homes enjoyed a Quilting Lesson presented by new member Dorlis Deaton, and are mourning the loss of one of their members, Carrie Reynolds, who passed away in May; Club 16, in addition to planning Family Fun Day, presented a gift to member Marcia Sutherlin in honor of her 50th wedding anniversary; Community Service invited guests Pat Pardue and Teri Judy who gave an interesting lesson on succulent plant container gardens; Family, Friends, & Fun held their June meeting at the Putnam County Museum with a pitch-in, and welcomed guest Lana Schimpf; Friends and Neighbors created their own lesson about ways to save money, and made donations to Shop With a Cop and 4-H awards; Heritage Heartland led a Craft Day for Kids Count Camp in June and then had a dinner meeting at The Fluttering Duck; Homemakers Anonymous held their May meeting at the Putnam County Museum following lunch at Almost Home; Northern Town & Country Lights donated cupcakes to the Summer Reading program, and provided lunch for Lunch Bunch at the Park ; One Stitch at a Time has been busy with their Spring Retreat, making sashes for Bible College graduates in Haiti, and preparing a float for the Fair Parade; Photography Club presented a workshop for 30 4-H members enrolled in Photography, and took a field trip to Bugle Valley Elk Farm; Sew Many Stitchers enjoy having Show and Tell time at their meetings; Wild & Wacky Embroiderers are working on a quilting in the hoop club project. From the County President: I want to take this opportunity to say "Thanks" to everyone who helped in any way with the 2015 Putnam County Fair. You help is greatly appreciated. Now the fair is behind us and another year is ahead. Plan to attend the district meeing, council meetings and programs being planned especially for you. Welcome aboard to Pam Miller as our new county secretary. We look forward to working with her. A thank you to Rita Reffett, out going county president for her last four years on the County Council Board. She will be serving this year as Advisor. Please ask your county officers and Barbara Tuttle, our district representative, to one of your club meetings. Not only will you get to know them but your club can earn points toward an Honor club. This is a great organization and it does take all of us to make it successful. Have a Happy Summer! Sharon Baldwin, County President. 3 3 Club Reminders from the County President Secretaries: Are all member records up to date? ( I.e. New recruits, address changes, withdrawn or passed on? ). Please send appropriate forms to the Extension Office. Achievement Night will be held September 24 at the Fairgrounds. Secretaries, get "This Year's Achievements" sheet along with perfect attendance names in ASAP to the Extension Office. Form is in the Secretary Record Book. The Family, Friends & Fun Club assisted by Northern Town & Country Lights are our hosts for the evening. October 25 is IEHA state wide Make a Difference Day. Please send you ideas of something we can do in Putnam County with your club president to the County Council Meeting September 10th. We would like to start Recipe corner in the newsletter. Send your recipes to Meegan Ebacher. is in the yearbook. The Key to IEHA is Membership. I hope each club will work on it this year. Please be aware tat as a mailbox member, you may participate in any program, lesson or be on any committee to help plan activities, functions, or special events. Barley Stuffed Cabbage Rolls 1 large head green cabbage, cored 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 1/2 cups finely chopped onion 3 cups cooked pearl barley 3 ounces crumbled feta cheese (about 3/4 cup) 1/2 cup dried currants 4 2 tablespoons pine nuts, toasted 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley 1/4 teaspoon salt, divided 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided 1/2 cup apple juice 1 tablespoon cider vinegar 1 (14.5-ounce) can crushed tomatoes, undrained Steam cabbage head 8 minutes; cool slightly. Remove 16 leaves from cabbage head; discard remaining cabbage. Cut off raised portion of the center vein of each cabbage leaf (do not cut out vein); set trimmed cabbage leaves aside. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion; cover and cook 6 minutes or until tender. Remove from heat; stir in barley and next 4 ingredients (through parsley). Stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Place cabbage leaves on a flat surface; spoon about 1/3 cup barley mixture into center of each cabbage leaf. Fold in edges of leaves over barley mixture; roll up. Arrange cabbage rolls in bottom of a 5-quart electric slow cooker. Combine the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, remaining 1/8 teaspoon pepper, apple juice, vinegar, and tomatoes; pour evenly over cabbage rolls. Cover and cook on high 2 hours or until thoroughly heated. *Recipe obtained from Cooking Light
