Pleasant Music Boosters August 8, 2017 To promote and sustain choral and instrumental music programs, performances and competitions by the Mount Pleasant Community Schools Heidi Ryon, Linda Kelley, Jim DePriest, Marlene DePriest, Laura Westfall, Aron Robinson, Shari Moeller, Chris Van De Berg, Meredith Lee, Michelle White, Adam Creager, Jeff Epperson, Maggie Epperson WELCOME NEW OFFICERS and VISITORS Welcome to everyone except the flies! No worries, the swatters came out and Laura and Marlene began ridding the room of the pesky winged annoyances. The band room is less a few flies. Our sympathy to Amy Mabeus, her father, Mike Wesley passed away August 7 Our sympathy to Dave Schneider, his father passed away August 4. Congratulations to Shari Moeller, she is going to be a grandma for first time! Adam arrived (and let more flies in the door) SECRETARY S REPORT -- May Minutes TREASURER S REPORT o Financial report -- new accounts open! o 2 accounts: o 1 tax id. # for music booster charities 501C3(Music Events/Charitable Organization o 1 tax id not 501C3 o We are no longer using the Foundation Account o Accounts Discussion/Clarification - o Please use the Music Booster PO Box 826 for all future correspondence instead of addressing items to Central Office VICE PRESIDENT S REPORT o Patron Update $1020 to date o Requested an address list from Chamber and for K-12 parents to mail out letter Letters going out to Chamber list Past Patrons K-12 Parents o Thank you notes - donors from School Registration STAFF REPORTS o Shari Moeller Gamma Alpha Beta Sigma Pi in memory of Deb Cordes gave $500 to Elementary for music curriculum Materials have been ordered Baby countdown o Laura Westfall Lesson schedule getting finalized Needs some help for Back to School Night students in 5th grade and 70 students in 6th grade o Katie Townsend o Sherry Christensen

2 o Adam Creager o Band Camp went well - report almost stopped with just one item due to Adam s fear of being swatted by Jim who commandeered the fly swatter from Laura. o 7-8th Band is doing Night at the Movies theme- Jaws, Superman o Passed around picture of band shirt - o 121 band members now w/ possible additions o Madeline Thomas o Jim DePriest Good band camp - band marched and played the whole show, the time for the show is 7 min 25 sec, show has good symmetry Laura Westfall, Adam Creager, Marlene DePriest, Dave Schneider, and Ron Coberley were there every day Sympathy to Dave Schneider on the passing of his father Sherry Stone - been doing routines for color guard for 16 years Band t-shirts have been ordered Paid Mike and Sherry Stone Matthew Anderson, son of Bob Anderson who started In Motion, is helping with the show 1 copyright charge - parade piece, Frankenstein-$300 Showed Gothic Drum Major coats - adding black pants to the jackets will complete the uniform and come in under budget. (Money left could be used for fire extinguisher since it s possible they are flammable.) Need to purchase banners for the show Show has a high crap factor and will require 3 trailers Using old antenna for rustic/ugly effect - could possibly need to check to make sure everyone is up to date on tetanus Rock Around the Campus Aug. 6pm Wright City will have indoor Drumline and Color Guard events Cedar Rapids Prairie performance will be in the morning so band can get back for homecoming activities o Marlene DePriest Color guard is a unique/special show Still deciding on the right flags for the show In Motion is almost legal - there were several costume suggestions from the crowd(gauze and tassels) Anne Chapman and Ben Shrank choreographers Nicki Ensminger and Lottie Schnicker will be helping 7-8 groups for Invitational - still waiting to hear from a few schools who had director changes Chamber Uniform fittings - looking for help UPDATES AND HAPPENINGS o Event Chair Persons Marching Band Invitational-Chris Van De Berg, co-chair? Looking for possible Co-Chairs Many hands make light work! Sometimes asking for help is the bravest move you can make. You don t have to go it alone. Chris will call Matt about port-a-potties. She likes to give him crap about them.

3 Fruit Sales-Maggie Epperson, co-chair/chair-in-training? Planning to do the next 2 years - looking for an apprentice. Anyone interested could shadow Maggie and learn. Variety Show-do we even need a chairperson for this?? No chair needed Show Choir Invitational-Chris Van De Berg (kitchen: Dave & Marcy Adams) Dessert Theater-Chris Van De Berg & Chris Kempker Taking Care of Business is the suggested theme :-) Chris will call Matt for Port a Potties as needed for this event Middle School Honor Band- Concession help - Tina? Debbie? High School Uniforms- Jean Francy (Performances) & Sarah Zihlman (Distribution) Hanging uniforms - step stools needed for the vertically challenged Middle School Uniforms- Need 4-6 helpers - they have 2 names now August 22 - Concessions at all events- Debbie Smith & Tina Andrew Heatilator $ taken in Heatilator matches $ o Marching Band Invitational ~ (Sept. 16th) Sign-ups at Volunteer Middle School Welcome Night?? (did not get much interest last year--parents & students are overwhelmed-do it again or not?) Contacting parents? Possibly ask Lisa Dunn for a way to batch send a link to get the info. out to parents We need to be mindful about those who sign up but don t have students currently in high school and may not receive the . We want to be sure to pass the information on to friends, grandparents, community members,etc. who may not get the through school Could AEA make business cards to hand out? - Mr. D will contact AEA Can we have announcements made at football games/band invitational? Can we pass out cards at first football game? - need to check with Scot Lamm Adam got on signupgenius and has proof he is not a robot o Water for Parades Meredith Lee has it taken care of--thank you! Volunteers needed to hand out water at Salem and Old Threshers Salem Parade - need candy and Epperson s will put water in the trailer Old Threshers Parade - Meredith will have the water in the right spot!

4 Old Threshers Performances - need volunteers to get water from Boy Scout cooler and take it to the grandstand for after performance Homecoming - Meredith can pass out water for this parade o Fall Fundraiser Fruit Sales Chair: Maggie Epperson Co-chair/Chairperson in training???
