We are pleased to present this year s Christmas production on Saturday December 14th at 7:00pm at the Capitol Theatre. This year s production will consist of DMSD Dancers from Blenheim and Wallaceburg locations, PURE Hip hop classes from Wallaceburg location and various PURE classes who will be putting on the annual excerpt from The Nutcracker Ballet! It is going to be a magical show with beautiful costumes, variety of music and of course, the oldest classical ballet tale. Tickets are only $16 dollars. Come out and support our performers, support the Capitol Theatre and support the arts in your own community! Tickets are available at PURE PRESENTS: The Nutcracker Ballet (Excerpts) Pure will be executing (for the 5th year in a row!) their rendition of the Nutcracker Ballet, in shortened form, to be performed December 14th at the stunning and professional Capitol Theatre. This year the Ballet is being directed by Artistic Director, Heather Randall and Ballet Company Director, Jenna Charron. The Christmas Ballet is one of our best opportunities for PURE s Ballet Company and various other selected classes and students to show their unique and classical talents to their community and to PURE. The students rent their costumes from the PURE Costume department and learn their parts within their own classes and through various private lessons. Then, there are 2 full cast rehearsals that take place on Sunday afternoons leading up to the production in December. Consider taking your children and families to the production this year. Not only is it supporting your son or daughters fellow peers, but it is exposing your child(ren) to possibilities in the arts for them! We encourage continual growth in our Ballet Company and it is a wonderful program. You may not have any idea that this kind of talent exists in your community! Come check it out this year. Make it a new family tradition! The $16 dollar tickets can t be beat for live arts! If you re wondering if your child would like this type of performance, take a look at this outline of the story we will be telling including casting details, and decide for yourself! It is a cold snowy night and the Mysterious Godfather (Zachary Stallaert) works alone in his workshop. He is making toys to bring to the children at the party, but he spends some extra time and uses some extra magic on the toy he plans to give to his god-daughter, Clara (Avery Sutherland). Meanwhile, the guests begin to arrive at the Christmas party. Mother and Father, Clara and her brother all have the house decorated for Christmas and are excited for the guests to arrive (Level 4/5 Musical Theatre class). The guests dance and enjoy each others company! The children (Level 2 Ballet, Ms. Jenna) are dancing and playing all around the beautiful ballroom. Godfather (Zachary Stallaert) arrives at the party and everybody notices! He is carrying with him a large sack that the children all know, can only be filled with his well-constructed toys! Godfather passes the toys to the children and saves the best for last.he presents Clara (Avery Sutherland) with the magical Nutracker doll he has worked so hard on. Clara is excited! Her doll looks like a prince! Inspire talent. Develop abilities. Love the Arts.

2 Clara and the children celebrate their gifts until Clara s friends become too rough and accidentally but clumsily, break her beloved doll. Clara is devastated! Godfather takes her doll, works his magic, and presents back to her a fixed doll. Christmas eve is getting late and the guests begin to leave. Clara, still sad for her doll, lays her sleepy self down on a chair in the ballroom and falls asleep with her lovely Nutcracker in her arms. The Clock strikes midnight and Clara is awakened suddenly! The Ballroom is dark and feels eerie. She realizes that she has shrunk down and now finds herself smack-dab in the middle of an army of mice that live in the ballroom! (Boys Only Technique Class, Mr. Roger) The mice are not kind to Clara and they seem to be surrounding her! Is this a dream? A nightmare? All of the sudden, a figure appears to protect Clara from the Mice army! It appears to be her Nutcracker doll, fully grown and come to life! (Nathan Stewart) Now looking distinctly like a prince, the brave Nutcracker steps in to fight the army of Mice! Clara is relieved at the Prince coming to help and yet, she is confused and scared. The Nutcracker Prince bravely defeats the Mice. He takes a nervous Clara by the hand and leads her away. Clara looks around to find herself in a magical land where she is treated like a queen! The Prince has prepared to show Clara all of the magical treats and surprises his land has to offer. Clara is presented with Chinese Tea (Level 2 Ballet, Ms. Heather). She is presented with a beautiful flower during the Waltz of the Flowers (Elite Ballet Company Class, Ms. Heather). Clara and the Prince are visited by the Arabian Coffee (Gwen Mitchell) and the Russian Trepak (Maddy Alexander and Gwen Mitchell). Of course, this magical journey would not be complete without a journey through the dancing Snowflakes (Level 4 Lyrical, Corey) and a visit by the most magical of all, the Sugarplum Fairies (Jennifer Nooyen, Ashley Thibault). Clara is in awe of this amazing journey the Prince has taken her on. This has been the best Christmas ever..but.was it all just a dream? NEW CLASS OFFERINGS If you are looking for a class that is starting up fresh, check out these great options! Sunbeams Dance (Creative Movement) Ages 3,4 Mondays 5:30 6:00pm **Children who begin Sunbeams in Term 2 will be fitted for costumes and will appear on stage in the June Recital Cardio Fusion Adult Dance Workout Ages 16+ Fridays 4-5pm **Anyone is welcome to Join Cardio fusion anytime throughout the year! HOUSE LEAGUES You may or may not have heard that House League teams have been discussed in class and are underway! Each student is designated a team to be a part of for the duration of the year. This year, so it is easy for teachers to tell/remind students what team they are on, we have designated teams based on the time of year that they were born. Teams are as follows: If you were born in the months of January, February or March, you are on team: DA BOMB SQUAD (Blue Team) If you were born in the months of April, May or June, you are on team: THE LOONY TUNES (Silver Team) If you were born in the months of July August or September, you are on team: DISCO NINJAS (Purple Team) If you were born in the months of October, November or December, you are on team: ONE HIT WONDERS (Green Team) PURE HOUSE LEAGUES **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** Students are responsible for checking the front lobby lists for their team name/colour. Parents should help their (young) child memorize their team name/colour. For younger children, memorizing their team colour or their birthday month may be easier to remember. GETTING INVOLVED AND EX- CITED Here are some things you should understand about HOUSE LEAGUES. There are people on your team in every class throughout the entire academy, all ages, all classes.

3 Competitive and Pak dancers will be a part of the PURE House leagues teams. Students gain points for their team by following dress code, being kind, working hard, helping a friend, or for any reason that the instructor feels that the student can be rewarded. SPECIAL EVENTS are held once a month and can be found in the calendar of the monthly newsletter. READ YOUR NEWSLETTERS OR YOUR CHILDREN WILL MISS OUT ON THESE FUN EXTRACURRICULAR EVENTS! Examples of these events are Wear your team colours week, perfect dress code week, dressing up for Halloween etc. House leagues teams are JUST for fun! If a student forgets about an opportunity to participate, it is no big deal! The prize is the fun of working together in a positive way toward a mutual goal, togetherness and belonging, positive skills and habits being learned through positive reinforcement and more. Points will never be removed or deducted. House leagues should not be an area of stress. It should be an area of fun and positivity. All final arrangements for scores and the revealing of winners will be arranged by Management. The tallies of points (taken by each instructor) will be released in our bi-monthly newsletter. The Final WINNING TEAM will be announced at the recitals with small prizes for all team winners. NEW PHOTOGrapher We are very excited to announce that we have found our new photographer!! Her name is Cindy Ewing and she has a ton of experience in photographing dancers and teams. She s been the photographer for our sister studio for a couple of years now and also does team photos for various local sports teams. We are very excited to have Cindy on board and are looking forward to working with her! She will get started with photographing for us at ar upcoming Christmas Show. Welcome Cindy! SAFETY REQUESTS Here are some rules we would like to keep in the forefront of your minds while attending PURE. Please help support these guidelines by reminding your children and informing other parents. **NEW** - Please keep your children out of the Studios until teachers have arrived and invite the students into the room. Students are entering rooms before class time and damaging curtains, blinds, sound equipment and getting hurt before their teachers enter the room. Please keep your children in your direct supervision until their teacher or assistant invites your child into the studio. As Winter Boot season arrives please encourage your children to place their boots to the sides of the stairwells and not in the main path. Lets keep a path clear to walk through so that nobody trips on the stairs. The Front stairwell will be wet often this winter. Please encourage your children to use the back stairs to go up and down levels to avoid wet dance shoes from walking through the main entry way. Please remember to drive slowly and carefully in the PURE parking lot at all times for the safety of all of our families, especially in inclement weather. SuCH An Inspiring student! We just wanted to take a moment to share a story we feel is both inspirational and selfless! Sydney-Grace James celebrated her birthday with a PURE Academy with about 20 of her friends. She asked her friends instead of bringing her a gift, to bring a donation for the OS- PCA Her friends generously donated $400 for the OSPCA! Sydney Grace chose the OSPCA to donate her money to in memory of her Aunt Karen (who was a proud supporter of OSPCA and was instrumental in establishing the off lead dog park in Chatham). Well done Sydney - what an amazing girl you are! Please label all dance shoes, bags, waterbottles & personal belongings LOST AND FOUND Help Us Help You! We will be laying out all lost & found items from Oct 28th to Nov 9th on a table at the bottom of the stairs for viewing. After Nov 9th most items will be donated to people in need (except for jewelry - please the front desk regarding missing jewelry). Magical Christmas Moments Saturday Dec. 14, 2013 Chatham Capitol Theatre 7:00 p.m. All classes should now be working on their Christmas routines as our show is approaching quickly. Everyone who is participating should have handed in their permission and measurement forms by now. It is important that all students attend all their classes regularly, so everyone will be prepared for the performance. This will be a full dress rehearsal. We are thrilled to have Cindy Ewing Photography, from Wallaceburg, returning to take some great group and individual photos! They will all be done at rehearsal. We will be looking for volunteers for backstage during rehearsal and show night, so if anyone would like to volunteer, please let us know as soon as possible, as we will be planning our backstage set up shortly. Thank you to our volunteers! Please note if you plan to be backstage, you must be signed up as a volunteer. DMSDance is so excited to have our sister studio s Ballet Company perform an excerpt of The Nutcracker in this year s show! Captured Moments will also be returning as the videographer. DVD orders will be available soon via and on our website. The Purple Pansy will be selling flowers before the show and during intermission. Our Disney Team from Wallaceburg and Chatham will be holding a raffle for some great gift baskets, so be sure to purchase your tickets before the show or during intermission. The draw will be held at the end of the show. Christmas Week We will have our fun Christmas week, wear your pj s and be prepared to have a blast, the week of Dec Dec. 21. There will be no classes from Dec. 23, 2013 to Jan. 4, Classes will resume Jan. 6, 2014.

7 PURE/DMSDANCe MONTHLY AwArds The PURE Monthly Awards are a way for the PURE Staff to recognize deserving students. Throughout each month instructors nominate students in their respective disciplines who have been demonstrating all of the behaviours outlined in the Code of Conduct found at pureacademy.ca. pure dancer This month our PURE Dancer goes to Autumn Holtby in Level 1 Ballet/ Tap Combo class. This is Autumn s second year dancing and she has shown great growth in this short time. Autumn is devoted to working hard and listening to her teacher. She is sweet and kind to others, patient when other dancers need to receive corrections or attention, and most excited to learn and be challenged. Autumn rarely speaks in class because her focus is on learning. We can t wait to watch Autumn grow into a wonderful and talented dancer. She sure has what it takes! pure actor The PURE actor of the month goes to the vibrant Miss Avery Norris. Avery has a contagious, positive energy and always comes to clss with a bright smile on her face. Avery encourages her fellow actors and is a great support and friend! Avery takes risks and acts confidently and humbly at all times. Keep up the awesome work Avery! Florence Performer Florence dancer of the month goes to Jenna Morwood. Jenna is a returning Pure student whose dedication and commitment to dance has flourished over the years. Jenna s positive attitude and hard working personally makes her a great role model and friend for her fellow dancers. Keep up the great work Jenna! Wallaceburg Performer Our Pure Wallaceburg performer of the month goes to Rori Bennett. Rori has only been dancing for a few years, but she has embraced the art and gives it her all. Even when she is not feeling well, Rori refuses to miss her dance classes. She finds the joy in all she does! Rori is currently running a toy drive for the Ronald McDonald house. She says it s her way of giving back. What an amazing 9 year old! Way to go Rori! Blenheim Performer Our Pure Blenheim performer of the month goes to Erin McKenzie. Erin is a dedicated, hard working dancer. She is always prepared and willing to take on a challenge. Erin pays attention to correction and applies herself. Her excitement and passion makes her a joy to teach. Keep up the great work Erin! pure heart Our PURE Heart goes to Nancy Matteis. Nancy s daughter Alessandra takes jazz, ballet and tap classes at PURE. Nancy s commitment and dedication to Alessandra s classes and to her daughter s growth and development as a dancer is to be commended!
