She then relocated to London and was responsible for the Marketing & Graphic Design at the YMCA of London. After having her daughter, she decided to move back to C-K to raise her daughter in this fabulous community and to be closer to her family. Once settled back into the C-K community, she started a local parenting magazine called CK Child which she continues to run today. Soon after the launching her publication she was asked to run the Kids Zone at the Chatham Sunrise Rotary Ribfest, which she continued to do for 2 years. She found a new love in Event Planning and went on to run various local events including the CK Child Family Expo. Tammy started freelance designing for PURE soon after relocating to Chatham and has been a part of the PURE family ever since. She is thrilled to take on a more permanent role as the Director of Marketing & Design. Her daughter has recently joined the Primary Competitive Team and she s amazed at the amount of skills she s attained, the dedication she has and the camaraderie she s developed with the new friends she s made. Tammy could not be more proud to be a part of such an amazing & talented group of creative professionals! These faces are not new to PURE. These wonderful people have already devoted countless hours to the Academy but they will now be a permanent part of our management team as co-owners. 5 Debbie s Corner! The past couple of months have been focus time for improving technique and building confident dancers. Most classes have been working on routines for dance exams and some may have even started their year end show routines. YEAR END recitals Are coming fast! Just a reminder that our year end recital Accessorize is on Friday June 13, 2014, at the Capitol Theatre 7:00 pm. Rehearsal will be on Thursday June 12, 4:00-9:00 pm. (a more detailed schedule will be available at a later date), at the Capitol Theatre in Chatham. Our dmsdance recital includes all classes in Blenheim and Wallaceburg, including all hip hop, Disney and Blenheim PAK. Another reminder for Wallaceburg hip hop students that after our survey, it has been decided those classes will perform in the dmsdance recital. dance exams confirmed Dance exams have been confirmed for Monday June 2, Most of dmsdance classes are being prepared for exams. Our examiner this year is Miss Janice Lynn. Dance exams are a memorable experience and present an opportunity for dance students to be critiqued and evaluated by a professional B.A.T.D. examiner. The process encourages each student to work harder so they may achieve a personal best. Exams teach goal setting, builds confidence, stronger character and helps to maintain dance potential through all the dance training years. Each successful candidate will receive a certificate and medal from the B.A.T.D. in Scotland. Several of our students have also gone on to become certified teachers through examination. Being a certified member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, I feel fortunate to continue to give this opportunity to our students. Please speak with your instructor if you are interested in having your child tested. We will be creating a list in order to begin setting a schedule. Everyone will be prepared and it will be up to each class instructor to decide if a student is ready to take his/her exam. Cost will depend on level, but range from $ $45.00 for Junior to Intermediate level. $ for Advanced Levels. I will post a detailed cost list in each of the studios. Proper attire and shoes must be worn for all exams. Tentative Schedule for exam day is as follows: Monday June 2, :00-11:30 a.m. - Testing in the Blenheim Studio 1:00-3:30 p.m. - Ballet Exams at the Pure Studio Studio in Chatham 4:30-7:00 p.m. - Testing in the Wallaceburg Studio DMSDance will also be offering testing to our younger Kinder Dance and Little Stars Combo class students. It will be a fun and rewarding experience for these young dancers to give them a sense of accomplishment and prepare them for the future. Since I don t teach any of these classes I am able to sit in as an examiner. Each dancer will receive a certificate and medal specifically designed for these combo classes. Cost will be $25.00 for each student. In order to plan a date and time, I would like to know how much interest there is, so please let your instructor know if you might be interested in having your child tested. dress code reminder I know we ve had an extremely cold winter this year and sometimes the studio feels chilly, but I have noticed lately some students are not wearing proper attire for their dance class. Please note that jeans and jogging pants are not acceptable for Ballet, Tap, Modern or Jazz classes (includes Disney class) and hair must be pulled back for all classes. Fitted tanks, fitted t-shirts or even fitted sweaters will be accepted (please note the word fitted ) but please no baggy sweat shirts or baggy t-shirts. You can refer to our dress code on our website if you are not sure what should be worn to class. Thank you for your cooperation! merge with our sister studio a success! With the end of our dance year approaching and as plans for the next dance year begins, I would like to take this time to express my feelings about our sister studio and our new journey together. I know it s been an adjustment for everyone, including myself, but I have to say that it has been so wonderful for me to spend my time teaching my students while at the studio and not have to worry about keeping track of payments and administrative duties. It has allowed me more time to do what I love most and that is dance and teach my students. In the past we have had parents lined up before or after class, trying to make their payments or get info on their accounts. Of course this would cut into class time and students would have to wait for their class to begin. Not very convenient for anyone. How nice not to have the stress of rushing to get classes started. It has also been wonderful not to have to finish my night of teaching with a stack of bookwork to catch up on. Those of you who have been around for a few years know it was just becoming to be too much for one person to handle. After 30 years of doing it all myself, it s time to step back a bit and breath. Having an experienced administrative staff available to get this work done, conveniently take your payments, make sure everyone is up to date and keep it all organized, has allowed me to focus my time and work on teaching and preparing for my classes. It is normal for a change like this to take some getting used to and even have some kinks to iron out. We are all learning together. With all that said, each and every one of you is extremely important to me and I want you all to know that I am still here for you if you need to speak with me. I have always enjoyed having a more personal type relationship with my students and parents and making our dance school feel like one big family! I appreciate your patience as we take this step together but I would also like to know how you feel about our new journey and if you might have any concerns. Or just to say it s all good and how it s working for you. Please tell me/us! Send me an dmdance@bellnet.ca, or contact Pure: marketing@pureacademy.ca. 1st competition coming soon for Blenheim pak! DMSDance is very excited about our Blenheim PAK competitive debut April at the Capitol Theatre in Chatham. Brittany has been working these girls hard to prepare for this big event! If you can come out and support them, I know they would appreciate having you there to cheer them on.
