There are countless benefits to dance training at a young age, but below are some key points to help our clients understand WHY Early Years Dance is vital to the growth of our young ones. FOLLOWING DIRECTION is one of the key skills our early years lessons hope to instill in our young dancers. Teaching our young ones to stop, listen and learn is important to their growth both in and out of the studio. Pre school dance class offers many chances to practice this skill of listening and thinking before acting through guided song and dance as well as activities procured by the individual instructor. SELF CONFIDENCE is gained by our young dancers as they learn what it means to believe they are capable of achieving something. Entering into a class without mom or dad can be the first big step in a young child s perception of their ability to achieve something! DISCIPLINE through structure and repetition help to further the young child s idea of acceptable behaviour. MOTOR SKILLS, COORDINATION and STRENGTH, AND FITNESS are all huge aspects of Early Years programming. It is pretty clear the benefits of all of these things. Encouraging movement in young children is crucial to better development in both the physical and mental sense. More and more these days our children get less exercise and less opportunity to be physical. Dance class is a perfect introduction to the world of fun physical activity! RECITAL THEME & DATE INFORMATION Chatham and Florence recitals will be held the second week of June at the Capitol Theatre in Chatham, June 9th, and 10th. Rehearsals will be held on the 6th and 7th with specific rehearsal details to follow. Lakeshore recitals will be held the third week of June at the Capitol Theatre in Windsor, June 16th, and 17th, with rehearsal on Thursday, the 15th. Specific rehearsal and recital details will follow. Our theme this year is Why Do I Dance?, a look into what makes our PURE dancers dance. Instructors will be sending home a small questionnaire with each child to fill out (some with the help of Mom or Dad) and bring back to PURE. It is our hope to include some of our dancer s answers as to why they dance in our end of year recitals this year! We are SO excited to hear our dancer s feedback!

RED AND WHITE AND PINK ALL OVER PURE is celebrating Red and Pink All Over week Feb 13-18th at the studio. Students are encouraged to wear any red and pink items they have to celebrate Valentine s Day.

PURE has added two calendars to their website in order to keep you informed and aware of all that is going on at the studio.

If any students would like to bring in Valentine s Day treats to share with their class, please make sure these items are peanut free. NEW PURE ONLINE CALENDAR! PURE has added two calendars to their website in order to keep you informed and aware of all that is going on at the studio. One calendar is for all our dancers in Chatham, Florence, Wallaceburg and Lakeshore and another is for our Competitive dance teams (Club, Crew, and Company). These will be updated constantly with relevant information. Please use these in conjunction with s and newsletter info. Congratulations to PURE dancers that have been chosen to participate in the production: Rowan Agar, Juleena DaSilva, Sarah Grace Enzlin, Cate Huffman, Lauren Matesic, Shelby Olmsted, Melody Pigeon & Hannah Ross. Steve Heyink /2017 PARENT EXECUTIVE UPDATES Social Committee and Community Outreach Candygrams have been purchased and we are looking forward to handing them out to the students! We have sold over 500 Candygrams and will be handing them out in class from Wed, Feb 8th until Valentine s Day. All of us at PURE and the Social Committee would like to thank you all so much for your support! Our next event is our Free Skate! We have rented the Erickson Arena on February 26th from 4-5pm. Students from all our locations are welcome to join us. Early Drop off 8:30am $10 for the week Late Pick up 4:30pm $10 for the week PURE COMPANY AND CREW DANCERS HALF TIME PERFORMANCE Congrats to PURE Company and Teen and Senior Crew teams for performing two successful half time performances last Friday at the Lancer s game in Windsor. The audience thoroughly enjoyed your performances and we thank you so much for sharing your talent with the Windsor community! TAP EXAM INFORMATION Tap exams will be held on the 30th of April at PURE. Exam candidates will be notified in March. Candidates are chosen based on their readiness to perform the graded material taught during class time. PURE will never rush a dancer though a graded tap class for fear of tarnishing their abilities in the next grade. If a dancer is not ready, they will benefit from another year in their respective tap class. Please stay tuned for further information regarding exams. UNDER CONSTRUCTION The downstairs girls and boys bathrooms will both be under construction. The boys bathroom is coming along very well and will be wrapping up soon. We are installing new floors, fixtures, lights, ceiling and paint to both bathrooms. While the girls is under construction, the boys bathroom will be used as the girls bathroom. Thank you for your patience while we improve!

4 NEW ADULT CLASSES START AT THE END OF THE MONTH! Attn Lakeshore ladies!! Since we ve had so much interest in our Adult classes, we re adding more! Tuesdays 7:00-7:45pm Adult Ballet 7:45 = 8:15pm Adult Tap END OF YEAR RECITAL We re so excited to show all our Lakeshore families just how hard our students are working and how much they ve learned! We are excited to announce that our dress rehearsal will be June 15 and we will be having two shows this year on June 16 and 17th at the Capitol theatre in Windsor. More details will follow... Classes begin Feb 28th so grab a friend and secure your spot today at WHY DO I DANCE? Don t forget to mark your calendar for our year end recital date! Sunday June 11th. 1:30 p.m. Dress Rehearsal will be Thursday June 8th. 4:30 8:30 p.m. A detailed schedule and info package will be available the beginning of May. B.A.T.D. (BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF DANCING) DANCE EXAMS Dance exams are a memorable experience and present an opportunity for dance students to be critiqued and evaluated by a professional B.A.T.D. examiner. The process encourages each student to work harder so they may achieve a personal best. Exams teach goal setting, builds confidence, stronger character and helps to maintain dance potential through all the dance training years. Each successful candidate will receive a certificate and medal from the B.A.T.D. in Scotland. Several of our students have also gone on to become certified teachers through examination. Being a certified member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, I feel fortunate to continue to give this opportunity to our students. We are still waiting on a date from the B.A.T.D but will let you know as soon as we have it. ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL It is very important that students attend their classes regularly so they can be well prepared and ready for testing and recital time. Missing just one class puts a student behind more than you might realize. It usually means they will have to learn double the work the next week and they never really get caught up since they didn t get the proper time spent on a particular step or steps. It effects choreography and all the students learning it, so please think again when you decide not to attend class. RED AND WHITE AND PINK ALL OVER WEEK Also we will be celebrating Valentine s Day the week February 13-19th. Wear your Red and Pink colours this week and join in the fun! PROPER DRESS CODE Please remember even during our colder months, proper dress attire is important when attending dance classes. It is a critical part of the discipline. Jackets and hoodies are not permitted for class. FAMILY DANCE IS COMING SOON! Our Wallaceburg Crew and Tap teams are hosting a Family Dance at the Wallaceburg UAW Hall on February 24th. 7:00 10:00 p.m. Snacks, Door Prizes and Raffles!! Most of all lots of Dancing Fun!! Tickets are available at the studio and at the door $10 per family All proceeds go to the teams to help with their competitive costs. 7 The PURE Monthly Awards are a way for the PURE Staff to recognize deserving students. Throughout each month instructors nominate students in their respective disciplines who have been demonstrating all of the behaviours outlined in the Code of Conduct found at pureacademy.ca. The Chatham dancer of the month is Ella Cronk. Ella is in the PreBallet/Jazz class on Mondays and comes to class with a smile every week. She always wears proper dance attire and participates fully in class. She is really nice to all of the other dancers and constantly makes new friends. Her positive attitude is a joy to have at PURE. We look forward to seeing her every Monday. Congratulations Ella! Our Florence student of the month goes tomckinley is constantly working hard in class and always improving. When it s time to warm up Mckinley knows exactly how to start and is very happy when doing so. She always has a smile on her face and brings lots of positive energy to the classroom. I love teaching Mckinley! Keep up the great work! Our Acro student of the month is Courtney Alward! Courtney is always extremely eager to learn new material and has such a positive presence and attitude. She is always supporting and celebrating other students successes in class as well! Congratulations! The Wallaceburg Dancer of the month is Kara Barnes! Kara is always ready for class on time. She is very focussed and works diligently from the beginning of class to the very end, sometimes staying longer to keep working on her technique! Kara has shown incredible improvement in her dancing since September and has increasingly developed strength! Keep up the fantastic work Kara, we are all very proud of you!!! Our Lakeshore Dancer of the month goes to Fiona Lewsaw. Fiona takes the senior level contemporary class with Mr. Core and she consistently works hard, applies corrections fast and always remembers her choreography - Keep up the exemplary work! Our PURE Heart goes to our fabulous and dedicated photographer Jody Maynard. Jody is the guy at all our Chatham recitals and rehearsals and at our studios capturing amazing shots of our children. He has provided us with all of the imagery we ve used in the studios on our windows and signage and also takes many of the photos used in our marketing material. We are so lucky to have your talent at PURE! This year he will also be offering his talents at the Lakeshore end of year recital!
