1 Founded 1975 Issue 2 February 2014 President s Message Happy Valentine s Day Upcoming Events General Meeting: Feb 21 st at Elmer s Restaurant, Delta Park, Portland OR at 7:00 Greetings fellow Lab Lovers! I can t believe it is already February and that I am now your not so fearless leader. I thank all of your for the vote of confidence and I will certainly do my best to keep this wonderful club going forward. I have some very big shoes to fill and I want to personally thank Barb Gilchrist for her many years of serving in this club s best interest. I know she spent many countless hours working behind the scenes for the betterment of our breed and our club. My hat is off to you my friend! By the time you read this the Sportsman Show will be underway. I want to thank all of you who stepped up to the plate and responded to my request for volunteers. It is the members of this club that make the entire body successful. Start thinking about where you can put forth your time and energy for our 2014 events. We have the B Match on May 11 th, the WC on May 31 st, the HRT on July 5 th & 6 th and the Specialty on July 10th, 11th & 12 th. These events do not run themselves.. Even with the more than capable chairpersons in charge. They need help from our members. The jobs are not difficult and there is always someone to help guide you along. As many of you may already know, there seems to be an alarming increase in the number of breeders who are specializing in dilutes and passing them off as Rare. These are the Silver, Charcoal and Champagne colors that are being registered with AKC as Chocolate, Black and Yellow. This disturbing trend is much worse than the Labradoodle since those at least were not being registered with AKC. I would like everyone to brainstorm a little and come to the next meeting so we can discuss possible ways to slow this problem down. The next meeting will be Feb 21 st at Elmers, Delta Park at 7:00PM. I hope to see many of you there. Remember that the meetings are open to the entire membership. 1

Contributions for publication and advertisements are welcome. Advertising rates are $25.00 per half page and $50.00 per whole page. All submissions for publication are to be mailed or ed to the editor by the 25th of the month. All brags are to be current within 90 days of the event. The meeting was called to order at 7:18 PM by Barb Gilchrist at the home of Susan and Greg Huntzinger President s Report: Barb announced that anyone who was not current on their dues would not be able to vote on the 2015 judges so she recommended that you pay dues tonight. She brought up the National and that it went well but she was glad it was over. Secretary Report: Judy Chambers made a motion to dispense with reading the prior minutes. Lizzie Moir seconded. Cindy reported that she had no new correspondence from the AKC. She is still trying to get a response from BaRay about whether they charge for bitches in season that we will be refunding entry fees for. A phone call is in order. Treasurer s Report: None. Sportsman show Nobody volunteered to chair the event A sign up sheet is circulating. Marilyn and Richard Parker have the club information and board and will set up on Tuesday and take down on Sunday. Membership: New Readings were for Julie Marquis and Jamie Roberts. Julie was prior member and is rejoining. She is interested in Show, Rally, Therapy, Companion dogs and obedience. Susie Morrill and Betty Barkley sponsored. Jamie Turned in her membership application tonight. Barb Gilchrist and Jessica Smith sponsored. Lisa Cruanas seconded. All members approved. Unfinished Business: Island information. Dave Ilias talked about the blackberry problem on Sauvie Island. Our share of the chemical cost to spray is $317. Judy Chambers made a motion that the cost be approved and Ellen Sparks seconded. All members except for Susie Morrill voted in favor. National: Jill Mahoney reported that books have been closed on the National. Thanks were given to all who volunteered their time to make this a success. LRC board members called her to say that this was the best National they have ever attended. We did go $4,700 over budget but we cannot control entries and judges travel costs. Judges for 2014 B Match have been selected Sweeps: July 9, 10, 11 Judges have been selected Judy Chambers said she will send out letters to the judges.
