1 Dec 2010 Commodore s Report - Paula Spina WOO HOO! My last Sound Waves report as Commodore. What a ride the last five years have been for me. I was pretty much a brand-new member when I became club Secretary. Knew very few members, didn t really know much about the club at all. Take it from me, there is no better way to get to know your club and all of your fellow members than to get involved, especially by serving on the Bridge. At our last general meeting someone asked me if I was relieved that my term on the Bridge was almost over. In a way, I am. It s been a long run on the Bridge and an awful lot has happened over the last five years. So I am ready for a break. On the other hand, it has been such a wonderful experience, I m sad to see it end. I suppose every Commodore before me has felt the same way. I suppose it is also the case that most Commodores look back on their term of office and wonder how it flew by so quickly. And flew by it did for me. There were a couple of projects I really wanted to tackle this year, but never even managed to get started. Other things we never expected cropped up and were dealt with. You never know what your year is going to bring; you just have to do your best and realize that no matter what, the club will move along with or without you. Being Commodore is a great lesson in humility. This year I had a superb team. I couldn t have asked for a better Bridge or Board. We worked together without controversy or distraction. You all made my year as Commodore a joy. Thanks so much to each and every one of you. Bill has a great team coming in next year, but they have their work cut out for them to equal this year s board. So here s to you: Bill, Peggy, Rich, Echo, Bob, Joyce, Dan, Colleen, Les, David, Garry, Bill and Mark, you guys rock! The last thank you for now is reserved for Susie Barrett, without whom there would be no Sound Waves. Thank you Susie. Well, before my term officially ends, there are three major club events yet to go. On December 5th we have the Special People s Cruise. Chris Kullman needs all of us to make this most wonderful of events a success. I ll be there, you should too. Then on December 10th is the Bell Harbor Holiday Cruise. Michael and Lisa Haistings and Gary and Donna Sheneman will be putting on the last cruise of the year, and it portends to be a doosie. Finally, on December 15th we have our Award s Banquet. It s at this final event of the year that we induct our new officers and trustees and where I get to properly thank everyone for a great year. Try not to miss any of these events. In closing, I have had a wonderful time this year. I hope that each and every one of you has as well. I am so glad that when Lance and I were shopping for a yacht club to join, we met Bill Dils, Pat and Buff Hansen and decided to join the PSYC. I wouldn t trade our club for any other.... and that truly was all she wrote. Is Your Information Up-To- Date? All member information (phone numbers, boat names, etc) in the Roster comes from the information that YOU enter on the PSYC web site. Please take a few moments to verify that your information is correct and up-to-date by visiting the PSYC web page at and login with your username and password. 3 Page 3 December 2010 Vice Commodore s Report - Bill Dils 2010! Wow what a wonderful year. Seems like New Years day was just last week. How fast the time passes. The club and grounds are in pretty good shape for the coming year. There are a few projects Peggy Allen has in mind for the upcoming year but she can speak to them. Thank you all for your support and participation this past year, we could not have this great club without you all. It has been my pleasure to have served as your Vice Commodore. The Whirly Ball tournament was great fun and all had a good time. It took me two days before I could move without vast pain in my legs. I hope the other players fared better. The winners this year were team #4 with: Joyce Carlson, Eric Lindquest, David Morton, Nancy Morton and my brother Mike Bigelow. Their names will be added to the Whirly Ball trophy and placed in the trophy case.. Every year the incoming Commodore appoints members to chair several committees. 4 Page 4 December 2010 Rear Commodore s Report - Peggy Allen This is my last report as your Rear Commodore. I have really enjoyed the last year, and what a year it s been. Nearly every month there was at least one social event and each was well attended. PSYC members really know how to enjoy themselves and the camaraderie of the club. But that s not all. We started November with the Commodore s Ball. Paula was roasted, but with the utmost respect and reverence. The trial was fair and unrigged. As always we enjoyed a great meal, socializing and dancing. Everyone looked so nice in their finery. Whirley Ball followed. Bill and Sue Dils organized lunch at Mac Finster s and the Whirly Ball tournament. I have heard tales of intense competition and fun, but no stories of mayhem. I am sure Bill will post the scores and names of the winning team. Although the year is nearly over there are still a lot of activities left including the Special People s Cruise, the Awards Banquet and topped off with the Holiday Cruise to Bell Harbor. It will be another busy month. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the PSYC Food Drive. Your donations will help fill the food bank and make a happier holiday for those in need. Jack Excell gathered up the donations and delivered them to Food Lifeline. Thank you so much Jack. Here s wishing all of you a very happy and safe holiday season! On to 2011! 5 Page 5 December 2010 Roster Happy Bucks We all know about the Happy Bucks at each month's yacht club meeting. You know the ones, you put a buck or two in the box and let everyone know what you're happy about. What if you could make a Happy Buck that lasts all year long? Last year we started the idea of bringing Happy Bucks to the Roster with our new "Roster Happy Buck". A Roster Happy Buck Box is a 2.5" by 1.8" ad in the Roster to tell everyone what you're happy about. The best part is that they cost only $13 for one box or $25 for two. Now you can crow about something all year long! You might use a Roster Happy Buck to: - thank someone for their help - recognize a contribution to the club - brag about your new boat, house, pet, child or grandchild - remember someone who has passed You might also use one to: - state a goal or aspiration - publicize your business or hobby - root on your favorite sports team - poke fun at our past or present Bridge, fellow club member or even yourself Ads can be up to 5 lines of 14 characters each for the larger type or up to 6 lines of up to 22 characters with smaller type. 6 Page 6 December Lb Ground Beef 1 Tbsp Garlic Salt 1 Tbsp Parsley Flakes 1 Tbsp Basil 1 Tbsp Salt 1 Lb Can Tomatoes (cut up) 2 6 Oz Can Tomato Paste 10 Oz Lasagna Noodles 2 Cups Cream Style Cottage Cheese 2 Eggs, Beaten 1 1/2 Tsp Salt 1/2 Tsp Pepper 1/2 Cup Mozzarella cheese (shredded) Baked Lasagna Recipe by Sharon Moore Brown meat slowly, drain off excess fat. Add spices and tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer uncovered 30 minutes. Cook noodles in salted water, drain and rinse. Combine the rest of the ingredients (cottage cheese through mozzarella cheese) stir thoroughly. Grease baking dish (13 X 9 X 2). Spread layer of noodles then meat sauce then mozzarella mixture, repeat layers until all ingredients are used. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and let cool 10 minutes.
