3 MESSAGE FROM THE CEO JOHN J. JAMES Team Members, October is here and that means cooler weather is right around the corner. It is a great time to get outside after the long hot summer. October also brings the beginning of cold and flu season. I want everyone here at Gila River Casinos to stay healthy this year, so the there are several upcoming events to help make this happen. Believe it or not, the new Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino will have been open for three years at the end of this month and there s a lot to celebrate. In that time, AAA awarded WHP with a coveted Four Diamond rating. Phoenix Magazine and Phoenix New Times named WHP Best Casino, twice. Shula s at Gnome Sweet Gnome The Gila River Casinos health fair and multiple opportunities to join volunteer walks offer the perfect combination to keep colds away and get fit this winter. At the health fair, you can get information on all the benefits Gila River Casinos has to offer. Be sure to stop by to check out the vendor booths and get your free flu shot. Staying in shape is another great way to stop colds from getting you down and help with your fitness goals. Starting this month, Gila River Casinos is offering Team Members great opportunities to join volunteer walk teams. Several of these opportunities are new to the Enterprise. These walks are a great way to keep fit, support great causes and offer a fun place to meet with Team Members, family and friends outside of work. Get out there and join a walk team today! Take advantage of the health fairs and make sure you stay fit and healthy this fall and winter. Sincerely, John J. James WHP has won an Excellence Award from Wine Spectator Magazine and multiple Diner s Choice Awards from OpenTable. com. Plus, WHP won a R.E.D. Award for Best Hospitality Project. But perhaps even better, WHP has led the way with a 91.2% guest service rating with nearly 10,000 surveys returned this year alone. How is all this possible? You! Every Team Member, both front-of-house and heart-of-house, makes a genuine difference and none of these accolades would have been garnered without your extraordinary efforts. So pat yourself on the back and eat a big slice of cake on October 30, YOU deserve it. Working on a Healthy Team As part of GRGE s Working on a Healthy Team campaign health fairs will take place at all three casinos. Each health fair will have approximately 45 vendors offering health screenings, education and awareness booths. Everything from chiropractic services to cholesterol, blood sugar checks, mental health information, child care services and smokers cessation programs will be available. Plus Team Members will have an opportunity to speak with our medical plan providers. Lone Butte Casino Tuesday, October 30th Vee Quiva Casino Tuesday, November 13th Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino Tuesday, November 27th V o l u n t e e r & and Make a Difference Gila River Casinos is proud to support organizations making a difference in Arizona. 4 Chandler As Apprentice Pit Manager and a mentee in the Pathways Mentorship Program Regina Manuel knew she would have a lot to learn. She says she has always enjoyed the table games area of the casino and when a friend told her about the opportunity to join the Pathways Mentorship Program as an Apprentice Pit Manager, she jumped on the opportunity. I wanted to take this opportunity to learn this position and be in a situation where I could help my career and also help my Community, says Regina. After two months in the position, Regina says she has really enjoyed learning more about the table games Regina Manuel Apprentice Pit Manager Shift Days Property Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino Duties Manage operations on the floor including; monitoring and interacting with guests and supervising Team Members in the pit area. Team Member Spotlight area and getting to know all of the people in her new department. All of the Team Members here have been so encouraging and supportive. It s really been outstanding, she says. Regina has made a great impression on her new Team Members and one guest in particular will likely never forget her impact. That guest was enjoying playing at Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino when he began choking and struggling to breathe. Regina sprang into action and administered the Heimlich maneuver and saving the guest s life and to hear her tell it, it was no big deal. It all happened so fast, she said. I just jumped in and before I knew it I was giving him the Heimlich. I received training in CPR and the Heimlich when I worked with the Community and it all just came back to me. It was exciting, but after it happened, I just went back to my duties like nothing happened Service Star Comments by Lee Darby, Table Games Manager WHP The Casino Games staff here at WHP is very proud to have Regina Manuel as a Pit Manager. Regina was chosen for the Pathways program and brings an enthusiastic approach to work every day. We look forward to working with Regina in the future and are confident that she will excel in her new position.
