This is how we will keep parents informed about what's going on in the program. Fundraiser updates - 13th Annual Eagle Baseball Golf Tournament is set for October 25th at Legacy Hills Golf Course. Details can be found on our website at: Football: Freshmen: Thursday, October 15 th : Freshmen White vs. East View at GISD Athletic Complex, game time is 5:30pm. Freshmen Blue play at GISD Athletic Complex at 7:00pm. Junior Varsity: Thursday, October 15 th : JV Blue vs East View is at 5:30pm at Patriot Stadium. JV Silver is at 7:00pm at Patriot Stadium. Varsity: Friday, October 16 th : Varsity will play East View at GISD Athletic Complex. Game time is 7:30pm Football Tickets The Athletics Office will be selling football tickets at this evening s Homecoming Pep Rally at the GISD Athletic Complex, 6pm. For your convenience, you may now purchase tickets to the GHS home games in two different ways:
2 Tickets for all home games for GHS Varsity Football can be purchased and printed at home by going to Tickets are available online up until 5:00 PM on game day. Adult tickets are $7.00 and students are $3.00. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket, however, you are able to avoid having to wait in line to purchase your ticket at the game. Pre-sale Football tickets will be sold in the Annex Office Mon-Thurs from 8-12 and 1-4 and on Friday in the cafeteria during all lunch periods. $3/students $7/adults. All tickets at the gate will be $8. Swim Our next competition will this Saturday morning at blockhouse creek pool against Leander and EVHS at 9am. Tennis Tuesday, October 13 th : Varsity 2 nd Round of District home, 4pm. Thursday, October 15 th : Freshman & JV vs. Harker Heights at home, 4pm Friday, October 16 th : Varsity District Tourney Finals at 4pm location TBA Saturday, October 17 th : Varsity Waco Midway Quad 8:30am/1:00pm Robinson HS Volleyball Tuesday October 13 th : Dig Pink! All teams play Leander in Georgetown. Freshmen 6:30, Freshman 5:30, 5:30 and Varsity at 6:30 Friday, October 16 th : Senior Night/Homecoming! All teams play East View at home. Freshman 6:30, Freshman 5:30, 5:30, and 6:30 Attendance Office ATTENTION ALL GHS PARENTS: If you would like an early release for your student for any reason, please contact the Attendance Clerk, Jennifer Hellmann. You can reach her by phone or by hellmannj@georgetownisd.org. By doing so, you may save yourself some valuable time. The more notice you can give, the better chance we have of ensuring your student is ready and waiting when you need them. The front office is a very busy place, so if Mrs. Hellmann does not answer the phone, please leave her a voic . This is beneficial for all involved it should make retrieving your student easier for you and it decreases the amount of times a teacher is interrupted while teaching classes. Thank you for your cooperation.
3 Cafeteria News We are now into week THREE of the Healthy High School Challenge and GHS is currently #15 in the nation but we can do better! Double points this week in your EAGLE CAFETERIA are Bottled Water, V-8 Fusion and Baked Chips. Let s eat and snack healthy to take this win home for GHS with the top prize of $5000! Clubs and Organizations Book Club: Book Club will be meeting on October 30th at 8:00 in Mr. Collman's room #175. Please come to discuss Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. We will also decide our book for November. Cause Club: Will meet every Tuesday at 8:00 am in the library. Drama Club: Will meet the last Friday of each month at 8am in the Little Theatre. HOSA: Meetings will be the last Thursday of every month. Meetings will be at 8:10 am and 3:50 pm in room 213. Interact Club: Will meet on all A day, Thursdays at 8:15 in room 502. 4 Prepare U: Meets every A Day Tuesday in Room 184 at 3:50 pm. SeaPerch: Is getting started at GHS this year. SeaPerch is an underwater Robotic program that competes at scheduled times throughout the year. It is sponsored by the US Navy. We will meet weekly after school for building and practicing the ROV. If you are interested see SeaPerch Coach Klein in room 166 for application. Serteens: Our Serteen meetings will be Wednesday 5:30 at the stadium to walk with our banner - (we will also discuss our bowling tournament at that time) and Thursday morning 8:15 - room 152, Mrs. Thompson's CSI room - New members are always welcome. Young Conservatives: Meet the 1 st Monday of each month in Room 184 at 3:50 pm. College & Career Center College Ahead Presentation for Parents October 15 Parents of all GISD 10 th and 11 th graders are invited to attend an informative College Ahead presentation to learn simple ways to support your child in preparing for college starting their junior year on Thursday, October 15, at 7:00 PM in Thomas Lecture Hall at Georgetown High School. We ll start to connect the dots of the college admission process focusing on the PSAT Score Report due out in December (you will learn how to use this comprehensive report to your child s advantage). You will leave with a short list of free, reliable, high quality, online resources to make exploring your child s college options easier and more transparent. An overview of college options and "cost of attendance" will also be presented. College Ahead is sponsored by the Prepare U Club at Georgetown High School. It will be presented by Patricia Nehme, a college counselor, board certified member of the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners, and professional member of the National Association of College Admissions Counseling and the Texas Association of College Admission Counseling. 5 College Fair GISD The GISD Fall College Fair is coming up on Monday, October 19 th. GHS and EVHS are combining to host the event at the East View HS cafeteria from 6:00pm-8:00pm on the 19 th. Over 65 colleges, trade schools, academies, and military branches will be attending the event and it is open to all GISD high school students and their families! Homecoming Homecoming Theme Days Tuesday: Twin Day Wednesday: Wildlife Thursday: Two Steppin Friday: Crazy Blue & White Spirit Links Help Georgetown Beat East View! Buy a spirit link for 25 cents to help GHS make the longest spirit chain. Links will be sold at lunch from October Homecoming Parade 2015 GHS HOMECOMING PARADE *Wednesday, October 14, 2015 * 6:00 pm * GEORGETOWN FOOTBALL STADIUM The Georgetown Cheerleader Booster Club will sponsor a Homecoming Pep Rally at the Georgetown Football Stadium.
6 All school sponsored organizations/clubs (band, choir, athletic teams, NHS, student council, auto mechanics, etc.) are encouraged to come out and show your spirit as well as ANY organizations involving GISD students such as Pop Warner Football & Cheer, NFL Football & Cheer, GYBA, Cub Scouts, karate, gymnastics etc. Each club/organization will be introduced, appear on the Jumbo Tron and will walk through "The Inflatable" while the Georgetown Eagle Fans cheer them on from the stands. After each club/organization is introduced you are welcomed to find a seat in the stands and join in with the Cheerleaders, Drill Team, Football Team, Band & Coaches for the "Homecoming Pep Rally". Come prepared to get the crowd involved! If your organization/club is interested in participating please see the attached sign-up sheet AND contact GHS Cheerleader Booster Club at ghscheer2016@gmail.com Please arrive at the stadium between 5:00-5:30pm to line up. Clubs/Organizations are encouraged to make a banner to carry in the pep rally. Jack Frost Award Congratulations to our Jack Frost Winners! Winners for September were Garrett Szura and & Makenzie Reavey winners for October were Richard Bueno and Karlie Cummings. These Seniors were selected as Jack Frost winners because of their school activities, service and being exceptional role models. Congratulate these Seniors when you see them! They will be recognized at Monday s school board meeting and again in the spring with an awards breakfast. Seniors, it s not too late to get your application in- come by Mr. Boff, room 212, or the counselor to pick up an application. Once you fill it out, it stays on file the entire school year. Portrait Retakes SENIORS: On October 19 th and 20 th, any senior who missed summer portraits will be allowed to take them in the PAC foyer. Pictures will be taken during English classes.
7 UNDERCLASSMEN: Picture retakes for underclassmen will take place on October 21 st during all lunch periods. Any student who missed pictures will be able to have them taken during their lunch period. Progress Reports Attention GHS Parents: GHS has gone paperless with progress reports. We will no longer print and send a progress report home with your student. Parents and students will be able to check progress grades on line with Parent Self Serve. If you re not currently enrolled with Parent Self-Serve, please visit the GHS web-site, For Parents and sign up. If you are unable to do this from home you are welcome to use the computers in our library for this purpose. PARENT SELF SERVE AND STUDENT SELF SERVE INFORMATION TEAMS Parent Self Serve allows Georgetown ISD parents to access their child s attendance and grades online. Parents can learn more and register at If parents have problems with or questions about registering, please GISD Parent Self Serve Support at pss@georgetownisd.org. PTSA The PTSA will be providing a Thanksgiving pie to every teacher and staff member at GHS and Richarte (that's around 240 pies). We can't do this without the support of our generous parents. If you can help donate to this event, please follow the link on our website to donate through PayPal or send in cash or check (to GHS PTSA) in a sealed envelope and leave at the front office. The teachers love going home with a pie, and we love to say it was donated by you. Thanks in advance for your help with this event. Any amount is appreciated. PTSA Reflections
8 Students may begin creating their entries now and must submit to Rachel Rollins in room #862 in the Annex by October 30th. Soaring Eagles Band Your GHS Eagle Band has had a wonderful competitive season thus far! The staff is incredibly proud of the students hard work, dedication, and performance excellence. Please find below a summary of our last two contests and information for UIL on Saturday. October 3 Vista Ridge Marching Festival The band placed 8 th overall (out of 21), 3 rd in 5A and won Best General Effect in Preliminary Competition. By placing 8 th amongst all schools in prelims, we earned a chance to perform again in Finals. In Finals, we moved up to 6 th overall and 2 nd amongst 5A schools. October 10 Texas Marching Classic Against 24 other bands, and 13 6A schools, our Eagle Band placed 10 th and earned a place in Finals. I am so very proud of both performances, we received a standing ovation for Finals! We will be marching at Kelly Reeves Stadium this Saturday at 7:45 PM for the UIL Region 26 Marching Contest. If we earn a Superior Rating, we will advance to the UIL Area Marching Contest at Gupton Stadium on Saturday October 24, That schedule is TBA. Thank you for your continued support! Bowling The annual Bryan Burr High School Invitational at Mel's Lone Star Lanes was held over the weekend. The GHS Varsity Bowling Club competed against teams from Plano, Stony Point, Round Rock, Vista Ridge, Allen and a local home school team. During the qualifying rounds GHS built nearly a 300 pin lead over the 2nd place Allen Eagles. In the finals Georgetown beat Allen in the championship match to claim their first win of the season. The bowlers competing over the weekend were Bobby Smith, Jim Hanna, Aaron Ruiz, Cody Stephens, and Matt Gray. Colorguard During the Finals competition this past weekend for the GHS Band at their competition, the GHS Colorguard was judged on an individual caption and finished in 4 th place overall beating out many of the top Colorguards around central Texas. It was the highest placing caption of the contest Georgetown scored in. Please give these girls a HUGE shout out it was an amazing accomplishment!!! They truly have made heads turn around our Area.
9 Swim This past Friday your Eagle swimmers competed against EVHS in the second of the GISD Cup meets, and both the Girl's and Boy's teams came away victorious! Swimmers of the meet for the girl's team were Grace Innis Rylan Slocum, Julia Morales, Delaney Calem and Sophia Helpert. Swimmers of the meet for the boys team were Jackson Zenisek, Will Corona and Collins McLaughlin and Greyson Alarcon. Tennis Congratulations to the varsity tennis team in their awesome win last night over Dripping Springs with a nail biting score of Mary Blake Windham won the 10th match to seal the win and advance the team to the district tournament finals against Vandegrift on Friday.
