1 Happy Boss s Day to two of the BEST Photos by Drew Vannett Damon West by Caroline Holt Earlier this year led him to a bad lifestyle we had a guest speaker and that you should never start drugs or put named Damon West. He taught us some very important life lessons. We yourself in a position to start them. Damon West asked him a few questions about his youth to started drugs at the age of 12. fully understand his The seven years points. and 3 months he spent His life in prison in prison opened his was very rough. He got eyes to how he could beat up many times but change his life for good. did not lose without trying. He said, You do not Although he said that prison was the most terrifying place ever, he al- have to win all fights, but you have to fight all so said that it can lead fights. you to good places in He explained to your future. In prison, us that drugs are what you can change for good or for bad, pick your path. Family is the most thing he missed although they came to see him often. During Christmas his family came to see him unlike most of the other inmates families. The most important lesson he taught us was to be the coffee bean, which he said means to be the light in all life s darkness. Bullying is a widespread problem that can have both short and long term effects on anyone. It is aggressive behavior that continues to hurt others or oneself. Bullying is Anti Bullying Awareness by Jennifer Lewis caused by name calling (teasing), physically harming yourself or others, going online posting rude comments, and many other things. This can be prevented by defending yourself and others or telling an adult what is going on. PNMS is an anti bullying campus, and so are many other schools. Bullying is NEVER ok and should never be tolerated!
2 Page 2 OLD-SCHOOL HOMECOMING STORIES Best Sellers After asking Mr. Hooper about homecoming while he was still in high school, we managed to record a small tidbit of the joy the event brought. He began with, Back when I was in high school, all the kids went to homecoming. We all had dates, and we would go eat before the game. The principle continues, Then, we would go to the ball game and afterwards there was a dance. That s what we would all do. We all had a bunch of fun. Everyone still has a bunch of corsages and boutonnières. If you ask me, that sounds like a hoot! After Mr. Hooper s interview, we then decided to ask Dr. Brian about his experiences. The following is the response we received. One thing I remember about my senior year in high school was that while I wasn t on the football team, the football team that year went to state championship. I don t know if it was because of me being on my senior year or that we had an absolutely phenomenal football team that year, but that year it was so much more special than just your average homecoming. By: Drew Vannett and Jennifer Lewis Smile Train By Jennifer Lewis Josie always liked visiting her grandmother s house. But when she s forced to move there, she starts to feel like something is a little... off. Her grandmother has some very strange rules... Smile Train is an organization that raises funds to perform surgeries and provides transportation to and from hospitals for children with cleft lips and palates in second world countries. PNMS is raising money to donate to Smile Train and help these children in need. In order to donate, bring money to school and give it to the collectors in the cafeteria each morning between 7:00 and 8:10. The winning grade will receives a free Friday All-Region Band Qualifiers By Jennifer Lewis Members: Jennifer Lewis, Deacon Hebert, Savannah Cobb, Brylie Dartez, Estefani De La Torre, Ellise Frey, Presley Lee, Peytyn Meritt, Matthew Satchfield, Jacob Tristan, "Everyone gets mad at hustlers, especially if you're on the victim side of the hustle. And Miles knew hustling was in his veins." Rylee Bergeron, and Jason Tristan.

PNMS rewarded the winning study hall class that raised the most donations with an ice cream party. This sweet treat made more students interested for this great cause. Port Neches Middle School is very blessed to have such great faculty and students that tried to help those in Florida! By Bella Bui The Garth House by Berkleigh Curtis On October 24 Garth House came to the PNMS Builders Club s meeting to inform us about their programs for children. The Garth House is a very welcoming place that offers counseling to victims of abuse. All of the people that work at the Garth House are volunteers, and the money they collect goes to- ward helping these abused children. Taffee is the Garth House dog. Garth house dogs are used to comfort the children. Taffee does numerous tricks that make the children smile. For example, she can pray, dance, and even catch her treats. When one of the Garth House cases goes to court, Taffee can go on the stand with the child and comfort him or her while testifying. This is what I learned about the Garth House, and I think if you get a chance to donate to their children s programs, you should.
