3 Things to Know Remember your passport, birth certificate and proof of travel insurance: o Before boarding the bus, dancers and parent volunteers will have to show a MAD staff member their Passport/Birth Certificate/Insurance. Dancers are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and professional manner as representatives of the Maples Academy of Dance Performance Team: o This includes: Showing kindness and respect to all Performance Team members, parent volunteers, MAD staff, border officials, hotel staff, competition staff, and other competitors at the competition. Keeping hotel rooms, bus, and competition space clean. No name calling, bullying, profane language, profane apparel, disrespectful attitudes, disrespectful comments. Participating as a positive and encouraging team member at the competition and all team activities. Organize your luggage: o Pack your costumes and dance shoes in a costume/garment bag, clearly marked with your name on it. Garment bags will be put on the bus. Regular luggage will be stored below the bus for the duration of the bus ride. o Dancers can pack a smaller carry on for the bus with snacks, water/juice, and bus activities like a book, homework, playing cards, etc. Cell phones/ipods/ipads/electronics: o If bringing these items, ensure you are set up to use data in the USA or have the data turned off on the device. o Bring your own chargers. o Note that Maples Academy of Dance will not be policing the use and/or whereabouts of personal electronic and communication devices. If you re concerned about a device being lost or using it incorrectly in terms of roaming charges, do not bring the device. Bring snacks on the trip with you but do not bring items with nuts and ensure all items you bring a permitted entry into the USA: o When packing snacks for the bus/hotel, do not send items that contain any types of nuts, including but not limited to peanuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, cashews, almonds, tree nuts, etc. We have several dancers with very severe allergies to these items. o Know what foods you can/can t bring across the border. Many fresh fruits/vegetable, and animal products are prohibited from entering the USA. As noted on the US Customs and Border Protection Website: Many prepared foods that are unopened and commercially labeled are admissible (excluding meats and meat products). You may bring bakery items and most cheeses into the United States. As a general rule, condiments, vinegars, oils, packaged spices, honey, coffee, fish, tea, and baby formula are admissible.

4 Because rice can often harbor insects, it is best to avoid bringing it into the United States. Foods in packaging that appears unsafe or contaminated may be refused entry. Bring enough money for the weekend Medications/Inhalers/EpiPens etc: o Ensure your medication/inhaler/epipen etc is properly labelled with prescription information and labels Bring this booklet with you on the trip

5 THURSDAY, APRIL 19, :30pm Meet at Maples Academy of Dance 3:00pm Bus Departs M.A.D. en route to North Dakota before boarding the bus, dancers and parent volunteers must have their passport, birth certificate, and proof of travel insurance in hand. Reminder, if one person forgets, we all get sent back home. 5:00pm (Approximately) reach Boarder Crossing once we cross the border, passports will be collected by Miss Shauna and Miss Jamie for safe keeping. They will be stored in a safe for the duration of the trip and returned to dancers when crossing the border back into Canada. 11:00pm (Approximately) arrive at hotel and check into rooms Packing List Passport, Birth Certificate, Other ID Travel health insurance information All costumes Dance shoes Tights (and extras!) Costume hair pieces and props Hair and makeup kit for competition Performance Team shirts (short sleeve and long sleeve) Clothes, jacket, shoes etc to wear throughout the weekend Toothbrush/toothpaste/toiletries Snacks for in the hotel/at competition **see previous note on food restrictions Homework, book, cards etc for down time Money for the weekend - estimate approximately $100-$175 (accounting for: $15 for team bowling, $15-$20 for a team lunch at Perkins, $15-$20 for team dinner at Ruby Tuesday, $20-$25 for team dinner on Saturday, $10 each for 2 additional lunches (Saturday and Sunday), $15-$20 for 1 additional dinner on the way home on Sunday, extra money for snacks, and souvenirs) NOTE: If you do not send enough money with your child, resulting in Maples Academy of Dance having to pay out of pocket for meals for your dancer, you will be billed for these expenses upon return. Medications, epi-pens, inhalers, properly labelled with prescription information and labels PACK A BAGGED LUNCH/DINNER. IF WE ARE DELAYED IN DEPARTURE OR AT THE BORDER, WE WILL NOT BE STOPPING FOR A MEAL ON THE WAY TO BISMARCK. PLEASE PLAN FOR THIS. DANCES SHOULD ALSO

FRIDAY, APRIL 20, :00am-10:00am - Hot Breakfast available in the hotel 9:00am-noon Dancers who want to can go into the pool and hot tub are welcome to do so providing there is an adult present at the pool with them. Others may relax, socialize, do homework etc. 1:00pm Lunch at Perkins Family Restaurant (1100 Interstate Ave) 3:30pm Team Bowling at Midway Lanes (3327 Memorial Hwy) 6:00pm Dinner at Ruby Tuesday (3520 State Street) 8:30pm - Team Meeting (all dancers and parent volunteers) in Miss Shauna/Miss Jamie Room Notes:
