Some of the comments to be considered for next year s show are: encouraging more garment and accessory entrees from members; not using an art poster in the future; explore the idea of having entries from more younger members ; continue using digital media on the Bainbridge ferry but displaying a quilt show banner at the Bainbridge ferry terminal; and, increasing visitor awareness/interest in the challenge quilt display. Marilyn also commented on the excessive warmth in the Middle School gym during much of the quilt show. Due to an error by the school maintenance manager, the ventilation system was shut down at 1:00 on Friday and no one could be reached to correct the situation. A letter is being sent to the Sequim School Superintendent advising him of this problem and requesting a refund of some of the costs of the 2015 gym rental. 4 From the Vice Presidents: Why is there a Santa gift box on the Information Table throughout the year?????? 2016 SPRING QUILT RETEAT: On September 9, 2015 sign up to hold your spot for the SBSQC Spring Retreat to St. Andrews which will be March 28 thru April 1, A $100 deposit is required. Total cost is $ STUDIO TOUR: It is there for your donations of personal toiletries of all types. Many of us gather up toiletries when we are travelling (remember they are included in the price of your room) and donate them at Club meetings. Other good donations are the dental supplies you receive when you get your teeth cleaned. Your donation can be products for children, teens and/or adults. What happens to these donations? Each year at the Club Christmas Party we give this supply of donated toiletries to the North Olympic Foster Parents Association. They are made available for families in need throughout the year. So please bring in toiletries of any type with you to Club and place them in the Santa box. Passports are available for $5.00 to visit the fantastic studios of six of our club members. Those who have so graciously offered to open their studio to us are: Marci Kleinberg, Judy Ramos, Karen Eldridge, Jayne Merchant, Irene Snodgrass and Linda Huggins. This will be a great opportunity to see how these quilters organize their sewing areas. The tour will be September 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Have your passport signed/stamped at each location and you will be eligible to be in a drawing for a prize at the October 14 SBSQC business meeting. The passport must be turned in to the Vice Presidents at the October 14 meeting prior to the 10:00 business meeting. UPCOMING BUS TRIP: October 19 A bus trip is scheduled to go to the Bothell Country Village Shops which includes the Keepsake Quilt shop as well as a number of historical buildings containing other fun things for which to shop. The Quilt Shop has offered us a 10% discount if we wear an identifying badge. We will leave the shopping area at approximately noon to have a 12:30 tour of Martingale (we must not be late for that). We will get an up-close look at original designs from books they have published and a peek at never-before-seen designs from upcoming books. The tour wraps up in their Hurt Book Room where you can buy slightly injured books, containing patterns for quilters, knitters and other crafters, at bargain prices. They say to bring a big bag to carry your books home! Our trip will leave Sequim at 7:00 a.m. from the Shipley Center and return at approximately 6:00 p.m. With a minimum of 22 passengers the cost will be $ is the maximum number of passengers who can go on the trip. We will sign up beginning September 9, Page 4

5 New Books Farm Girl Vintage by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet Adding Layers-Color, Design and Imagination by Kathy Doughty The Better Bag Maker by Nicole Mallalieu Quilted Living by Gerri Robinson New DVD Peggy Martin Teaches You Quick Strip Paper Piecing LIBRARY CORNER Book Review by Judy Anderson I know a lot of us are just getting into wool appliqué and finding that we are enjoying it quite a bit. I ran across a great little find in our library for us wool appliqué newbies. Blossoms in Winter: 14 Design in Wool Felt Appliqué (#747) is a wonderful book with 14 winter designs. Authors Patti Eaton & Pamela Mostek take you from selecting and preparing your fabric to caring for your creation. There is a lap quilt made with soft rich flannel prints & wool felt appliqué to keep you (or your grandkids) snug all winter. The Winter Blues wall hanging is done with reverse appliquéd snowflakes and stipple quilted with silver metallic thread for a rich layered look. My favorite and the one I am going to try is The Midas Touch wall hanging. Poinsettias & doves made with gold and cream wool is just beautiful. If I just had one word to describe this book it would be cozy. Yep, this is a cozy read. Enjoy! Book Sale Donations If you have quilt books that you would like to donate for this year s sale, you can turn them in at the Library table by September 16. Mark your calendars!!!!! The annual SBSQC sale is coming up on September 23. There will be some great bargains on gently used quilt/craft books. These books have come from the Club library or have been donated by members. For those of you who haven t enjoyed this event before or those of you who forgotten how it works, here s how to play: Our book sale is a silent auction and you will need to get a bid number to play. Each book will have a minimum price on its bid slip. Bid numbers are available at 9:00 and will continue to be available until the close of bidding at 11:00. You can bid as many times as you want --- remember someone else may also be interested in your book(s)! Increases to bids are done in 25 increments. After announcements, book sale organizers will stack the books by the winning bid number. Once this is done, you can pick up your stack of books and pay at one of the cashier stands. You can pay in cash or check --- sorry no credit/debit cards. Remaining books may be offered at bargain basement prices So get ready to buy some great books at great prices. All proceeds from the sale go to the Club Library budget for purchase of new books/dvds/etc. Page 5
