Members of the boys varsity, jv and freshman basketball teams, please stop by the athletic office and pick up your award if you haven't already done so. Grandville varsity boys golf team kicked off their season yesterday at Kaufman Golf Course. Medal honors went to Noah Weigle with an even par round of 36. Great job Noah!! In another dominating win, the JV Softball team clipped the wings of the West Catholic Falcons. The Dawgs won 18-0, led by Kaitlyn Orme s home run and the pitching of Lexi Dukesherer. The next game is today against Northview. All members of the JV dance team please stop by the athletic office and pick up your awards.
4 Last night the Freshmen girls softball team lost a tough double header to Hudsonville. Left fielder, Sydney Wisniewski and center fielder Molly Lallo both went 3 for 4 at the plate. The Lady Dawgs made some great defensive plays on the field and had solid pitching from Olivia Kennedy and Ashlyn Luke. This was the first game for the Dawgs and we will play Caledonia and Comstock Park next week. The 39 member Girls JV Tennis Team caught the Yellow Limousine to Hudsonville on Tuesday for tennis lessons. Even though there were many close matches with tiebreaker decisions, the final score was Grandville 2, Hudsonville 8. To add salt to the wounds, the remaining team was completely forgotten by the transportation department and had to wait an extra hour for the ride of shame home. Coach Blevins takes the blame as he forgot to pay for the return limo ride ahead of time. The team is now 1 and 1 and will host West Ottawa tonight at The Kennel. Winning teams for the girls were: Kate Hubbard and Alix Villareal, and Kim Becker and Lexi Haas Attention to everyone interested in playing football next year there will be a brief meeting at the beginning of 5th hour on Tuesday April 19th in project room 290. If you have questions please see Coach Stiegel. The varsity water polo team improved their record to 11-2 with a district win over Grand Haven last night 9-6. The Dawgs played good defense all night. Senior goalie Cassie Cobb had 7 saves and 2 steals in the game for the Dawgs. Scoring for Grandville were: Hunter Wojtas 3, Julia Veenkamp 2, Delaney Pratt, Lizzie Plasman, Abby Schaedig, and Alyssa Potyraj each with 1 goal in the game. Both the JV and Varsity will play Wednesday night at the "Dawg Pond" at 6 and 7pmrespectfully against East Grand Rapids. Come and cheer on the girls. The Grandville JV water polo team improved its record to 11-0 last night by defeating EGR 6-1. The Dawgs defense was outstanding, goalie Rachel Veenkamp had 5 saves and 2 steals for Grandville. Leading the scoring was Alyssa Potyraj with 3 goals, Carolyn Peterson, Sammy DeYoung, and Emily Anglim each with 1 goal. The varsity team improved to 12-2 for the season with a big win over EGR. Senior goalie Cassie Cobb had a awesome night with 10 saves and 5 steals. The bulldogs had great scoring with 7 different girls scoring in the match. Hunter Wojtas led all scoring with 8 goals, Lindsay Popkin, Julia Veenkamp, Amelia Iracki, Lauren Shipman, Lizzie Plasman, and Delaney Pratt each scoring 1 goal. The girls track and field team had their first meet yesterday, against East Kentwood. The day ended up with very good results for the track team members. Even though the final score was 39.3 to 97.6, with EK taking the victory, Grandville had some great performances. The 4x800 relay opened the meet with a strong 1st place, with a team of Madison Troy, Audrey Royer,
5 Maddie Johnston and Emily Sinclair. We also had a 2nd place in the 800 run by Emily Sinclair, a 1st in the mile, with Madison Malon leading the pack. The 2 mile run brought 8 points, with Madison Troy taking a 1st and Madison Malon taking a 2nd place. The field event participants were key in giving points to Grandville yesterday. Daelyn Weir took a 1st in pole vault, Kylie Klunder and Alisha Tran took a 2nd and 3rd respectively in high jump, and Bayleigh Gable brought home a 2nd place in the shot put. Both the boys and girls varsity teams are traveling to Cadillac tomorrow for an invitational. Please wish them the best of luck!
