More than 500 years ago, Spanish Conquistadors observed Aztecs as they seemed to be mocking death. This tradition has merged with Catholic theology, and now on November 1 st and 2 nd of each year, there is a celebration of death, life, and rebirth. Known as All Saints Day and All Souls Day, celebrations vary depending on location. In Mexico, families gather at the cemetery bringing flowers and candles. They spend a day there, cleaning and decorating. This may include a picnic lunch and there are sometimes bands playing. In many homes altars are built to honor a loved one who has passed. The altar includes photos, food, candles, flowers, cut paper, and other decorations. Wind is represented with paper, fire with candles, and the earth with grains in food. Water is placed on the altar to quench the soul s thirst. Families await the return of their loved one s soul, to let them know for one night each year that they are never forgotten. by: Dree Football News The jackets put up a good fight against the Chilton pirates on Friday, October 23rd, but unfortunately came out with a loss.
