2 Jacket Gazette Page 2 October 22, 2010 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT FFA Senior Spotlight Danielle Davalos was born December 22, 1992, in Clifton, Texas. She has attended Meridian her whole life except her sophomore year. Her parents are Jeanne and Sylvestor Ramirez. Danielle participates in Band and Academic UIL. In band Danielle plays the clarinet and in Academic UIL, she participates in spelling, computer science, and prose and poetry. Her plan after high school is to attend University of Texas at Arlington to become a Pediatrician. Her hobbies are hanging out with her best friend Regan!! Also she enjoys playing the piano!!! Her favorite color is red and food is pizza! Her favorite class is 6th period speech class with Regan, Kelby, and Rafael!!! By: Jelly (: The competitors for the State Fair were Austin Crawford, Dana Mize, and Whitney Finch showing hogs. Kelsey Bracknell, Misha Simmons, and Whitney Finch showed lambs. Jermey Seay, Whitney Finch, and Nic Bracknell showed goats. For the Heart of Texas Fair Tristin Carnley showed a heifer. Whitney Finch, Gabby Garza, Jermy Seay, Misha Simmons, and Christina Ticer showed lambs. The next show will most likely be at the Robinson Jackpot November 13th. The FFA dues are $20.00 and need to be payed by October 22nd. The lamb and goat validations are October 26th at the barn. Hog validation is November 22nd at the barn. By: T.J. She has attended Meridian ISD all her life. Her parents are Jose and Sonia Alvizo. The extracurricular activities that she participates in includes Cross Country, Basketball, and Track (shot and discus). While she participated in Band she started off playing the clarinet then switched off to the bass clarinet. She also participates in UIL (Pros/Poetry). Her plans after high school are to attend Tarleton State and become a Physical Therapist Assistant in a hospital. She currently has a job at Bunkhouse BBQ. Jelly has been working there for a year and 5 months and also says that she has the greatest boss. Her hobbies are hanging out with friends, family and the BF! Also she likes going to the movies and lots of fun other stuff. She loves playing with her brother Noah and also chillen with the BTGBC Krew oh and Amanda! She likes Twizzlers, Big Red, Wing Stop, Olive Garden and Red Lobster. "I love food" she says. 5 Jacket Gazette Page 5 October 22, 2010 Senior Spotlight Jr. Poet Laureata Senior Spotlight Anissa Chapa or Nici, to her friends, was born January 1st, 1993 to Roszan and Gene Reina in Clifton, Texas. She has attended Meridian every year except 1st grade. She is the power lifting manager, plays golf, plays the sax in band and, she showed goats in the county fair. Nici plans to be an elementary music teacher. To reach this position she wants to go to college at MCC but she wants to march with the Baylor Band through the MCC Music Program. Nici currently holds a job as a babysitter for local mothers whenever they need help. Her hobbies include babysitting, marching in band, having bible study with Dana, Deb, Kelsey, Tallie, and Mrs. Patpool, hanging out with her buddies, talking to Regan in 7th period, hanging out with her youth minister and his family, making new friends, and telling people about The Lord. Her favorites include Dana & Silvia, her puppy, Dollie Ann, the Baylor Marching Band, and the color orange. She will be the Jr. poet Laureate for one academic year. The MHS freshman says she writes for any occasion. Jordan s plans after high school are to serve our country in the Army as an Army Ranger. Jordan s hobbies are hunting, fishing, and playing the guitar. The proud parents of this fine young stuna are Audrey Davenport and Miguel Estrada. He has three sisters: Mica, Sonya, and Adri. Star athlete has participated in Football and Basketball. He plans to be a coach after school. He wants to attend Navarro College or maybe Hill College. His hobbies include chilling with friends, hanging out with family, sleeping, looking for the latest music, shopping, stunning and looking fresh 24/7. His favorite movies are CB4, Juice and Home Of The Brave. His favorite food is Mexican food and favorite thing to do is play football and shop for shoes. October 30th the JV girls and Varsity girls will have their first scrimmage here against Walnut Springs and Little River Academy. JV FOOTBALL The JV has led a very promising year so far. Their record stands at 6-1. They look like a very good team, a little rough around the edges, but the coaches seem to be smoothing out and polishing them into a well organized team. This week they had a game against Ranger and won! Sophomore Will Speer made a touchdown off of an intercepted pass! Great job! Sophomores Jorge Flores and Jonathan Lira lead the tackles so far this year. By: Jonesboro Junior High Football Junior High started District last Thursday vs Baird. Both 7th and 8th grade teams had a rough loss, but kept fighting till the end. This week Junior High have been working hard, to face Ranger. Unfortunately, they came up short. Index Canned Food Drive!!!! November 5, 2010 Friday, Nov. 12th Admission - Adults - 4 Cans Students - 3 Cans FOOD DRIVE HAT DAY ON FRIDAY! (November 5, 12, 19) The Meridian National Junior High Honor Society in conjunction with the junior class is sponsoring a can food drive HAT DAY. Beginning Friday, November 5th and continuing each Friday until November 19 (3 weeks) will be food drive hat day! To wear a hat with the brim facing forward, bring 2 cans. To wear a hat any other way, bring 10 cans. Come help us help the North Bosque County Food Bank and their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive! Food For Families!!! NJHS FOOD DRIVE "Food for Families" began November 1st and continues through November 19th. Competitions between classes: averaged cans per student to determine winner. Prizes will be awarded to the winning class. Competition between faculty/ staff: also average cans/team members participating. Losing team provides treats in the workroom for winning team. Help support our local food pantry, the North Bosque Helping Hands, by donating food or cash. Look for flyers to see what items are needed the most. They are fighting hard for a play-off spot and are trying their hardest to do what they can get keep the season going. Her parents are James and Connie Holden. Kelsey played softball in her sophomore year, basketball, and was a member of FCA, and band (clarinet). Kelsey s plans after high school are to attend Navarro College. She has worked at Bunkhouse for a year and 8 months. On Saturday, October 23rd, NHS members helped out at the National BBQ Cook-off fun run and helped pass out trophies to the parade winners. Members helping in the fun run included Billy Miller, Zane Payne, Misha Simmons, Felix Reynoso, and Christina Ticer. Christina, Billy, and Felix also helped pass out trophies to the parade winners. By: Jelly (: The Meridian National Junior High Honor Society in conjunction with the Meridian Athletic Department is sponsoring a can food night at the Lake Jacket Basketball game on November 12th. On the first three Friday's in November, students can bring 2 cans to wear a hat thanks to the Junior class. Food drive competition between grades began November 1st. The winning grade (7-12) will be rewarded with a prize. Additionally, there will be competition between faculty and coaching staff. 15 Jacket Gazette Page 7 November 5, 2010 Senior Spotlight Dakota Gage Hall was born March 7, 1993, in Hillsboro, Texas. Dakota has attended Meridian his whole life. His parents are Chad and Lisa Hall. He has participated in football, basketball, and in track he ran the 110 and the 300 hurdles. Dakota s plans after high school are to go to Culinary School (Cordon Bleu) or go to a university (Texas State). His hobbies are hanging out with Tannah, hunting, cooking, eating, and hanging out with friends. His favorite movie is Back to the Future, favorite food is Cajun food, and favorite TV show is "Looney Tunes." By:Edgar Vergara Junior High Football The Junior High had a great victory against the Cross Plains Buffaloes last Thursday night. Last night they ended the season with a 30-0 loss to Gorman. Miss Texas Meridian High School and Elementary students and staff had the opportunity to meet Miss Texas during Drug Free Week. By: Stella (: JV Football The JV Football team is done with their season. Their record stands at 7-1 (7-0 if you don t count the game against 4-A school Burleson). They led a very successful year and are disappointed to see the season end the way it did. They had two games canceled in two weeks. Their defensive line was a force to be reckoned with; the defensive team of Will Speer and Josh Miller pushed through the line most plays and wreaked total havoc in the backfield. But all in all the team was very well put together at the end of the season. All the pouring sweat and pumping up those weights really paid off on their first scrimmage on October 30th against Walnut and Little River Academy where the Lady Jackets beasted on the court. They have many goals they want to achieve as a team so they put in their 100% effort every day after school. Lady Jackets will have their 2nd Scrimmage on November 6 th in Dublin starting at 6 p.m.. Places earned by 7th grade girls included Krista Warren-2nd, Jacky Portillio-7th, Sierra Childers-16th, Ashlee Hooks-17th, Morgan Marshall- 25th, Donna Reyes-26th, Eden Carson-28th, and Alex Taylor- 33rd. For the 8th grade girls, places were earned by Sonya Mendoza-10th, Courtney McCamey-13th, Heidi Shelby- 14th, Morgan Poston-16th, Brandy Vailes-18th, Candace McCamey-19th, Chelsea Shipman-20th. For the junior high boys you had Pablo Flores-3rd, and Latham Hensley-6th. T.J. Allen Theater Arts The theater arts will be doing a play before Christmas break on December 14th. The comedy play will take place at Dracula s Boarding House. Characters that are in the play include Count Dracula- Juan Galindo, Renfield- Chase Bowman, Lou- Dax Gann, Casey- Arturo Rodriguez, Lydia- Kasidi Gorneau, Elena- Heather Smith, Shy- Samantha Polley, and Girl-Holly Chenault.
