Winners of the brownie and ice cream party were JH - 8th grade with a total of 307 items and HS --10th grade with a total of 273 items. For the faculty, Avance's Angels beat Davis's Dawgs beating them 2,939 to 1,110. All winning faculty team members received two jeans passes and a pot luck feast provided by the losing team on Wednesday. Thanks for helping to fill the pantry at Helping Hands! JUNIOR HIGH DISTRICT ACADEMIC UIL At the JH District Academic UIL meet in Goldthwaite, the team placed 2nd overall. For JH OAP results, see page 2 and for individual competition results, see page 5. 2 Page 2 Senior Spotlight Makensie Hall Makensie was born September 14th, 1995, in Clifton, Texas. She has attended Meridian ISD for several years. Makensie s parents are Chad & Lisa Hall. She has a brother, Dakota, and a sister, Shayla. Makensie's extracurricular activities are FFA, PHP and Academic UIL Events: Debate, Exempt. Her plans after school are becoming a nurse. To achieve these goals, she plans on going to Tarleton State. Her favorites are eating cheese, playin with legos and playing with puppies. Senior Spotlight Kacie Jones Kacie was born June 6th, 1996, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She has attended Meridian ISD since 1st grade. Kacie s parents are Tammy & Steve Jones. She is an only child. Kacie's extracurricular activities include softball for 3 years, PHP 2 years, and Academic UIL Events: all 4 journalism events and One Act Play. Her plans after school are pediatric Speech- Language Pathology, and to achieve these goals, she plans on going to Stephen F. Austin State University. Kacie currently holds a job after school at the Meridian Tribune. Her hobbies are listening to live music, being creative, and volunteering. Kacie s favorites are TV shows- "Big Brother", "The Big Bang Theory", & "Warped Roadies". Movies- "Dazed and Confused", Mean Girls, and Perks of Being a Wallflower. Here is a recipe for Mexican Hot Chocolate: 1 cup milk chocolate chips 8 cup whole milk 2tsp. cinnamon Senior Spotlight Kamree Kuykendall was born on February 27, 1997 in Clifton, Texas. She has been attending Meridian ISD since K-12. Her mom is Kristy Kuykendall. Her brothers and sisters are Kelli, Kolby, Kaylee and Kenadee Kuykendall. Her extracurricular activities include football trainer, basketball, powerlifting trainer and she was in softball in the 9 th -11 th grade. She also participates in FFA and participated in cheerleading in the 9 th grade. Her career goal is to be a cosmetologist to achieve this goal, she plans to go to Hill College. Her hobbies are training with Makaela and dancing with Dylan. Her favorite people are Megan, Wendy, Makaela, and Dylan. 2 tsp. 4 Page 4 senior spotlight FFA NEWS The FFA is going to San Antonio for a Lamb, Goat, and Heifers show on Febuary 11th through the 13th. County show is on Febuary 28th. mallorie little Mallorie Little was born on September 21, 1995 in Temple, Texas. Her parent's are Sonya Merritt and Pat Little. She has four brothers, James Vaughn, John Vaughn, Jordan Little, and Aaron Little. She has been going to Meridian High School for 1 and half years. She does not play any sports. She works at El Jardin's. Her hobbies are pole vaulting and shopping. Her favorites are chinese food, her favorite color is purple, and her favorite movie is "Prisoners." Her career goal is to be a Game Warden. She has not decided on a college to go to yet. The Star of Texas Fair for Lambs, Goats, and Hogs is March 3rd through the 6th of March. On March 17th the FFA is going to Houston for the Houston Barrows show. March 21st is the Houston Barrows Auction. On March 26th the FFA travels to MCC for MCC Invitational CDE's. On March 27th the FFA travels to TSU for the TSU Invitational. 5 Page 5 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT Karla Flores Karla was born in Acuña Coahuila in Mexico on February 23, 1996.She has been going to Meridian ISD since the 6 th grade. Her parents are Karina Flores and Luis Ramirez. Her brothers are Jorge Flores and Pablo Flores. She is the manager for power lifting and also participates in softball, tennis, track, and band. In track she runs the 100 and the 200 meter dash. In band she plays the flute. Her career goal is to attend MCC to get her two year degree to be a registered nurse and then later transfer to Tarleton. She currently is working at subway in Glen Rose. Her hobbies include going to the football games, babysitting, and listening to music.her favorite things to do are spending time with her family and friends. Senior Spotlight Brannan Love was born August 22, 1995, in Stephenville,Texas. He has been going to Meridian ISD since his 3 rd grade year. He has two brothers, Jace Love and Luke Hale. and one sister, Kemari Hale. Extracurricular Activities that he has participated in while he s been here at Meridian ISD are Football, Basketball, Power lifting, and Baseball. His plans after high school are to attend Tarleton State University or MCC to become a high school coach. He currently holds a job after school working at Crossbow Ranch. His favorite hobbies are playing catch, spending time with friends, playing Xbox, and also watching football games.his favorite food is bacon. His favorite TV show is "The Big Bang Theory." His favorite thing to do is spend time with his dad. Boys Basketball The Meridian Yellow Jackets High School basketball team has had a fair start to their season. Not the best but also not the worst. Their first game was against Hubbard on November 26th. They put up a good game and came out with a win. They have been working hard these past two weeks to get their offense and defense set up to prepare for thir upcomming games. This past weekend the Jackets had a tournament in Hamilton. They beat Clifton and Chilton. The last game of the tournament they played Commanche putting up a good game, and just barely losing to them. During this past week during after school pratices, the players says " we have came up with a new defense and offense and we are looking forward to trying it Tuesday night against Holland. Hopefully this will give the Jackets the confidence they need in order to keep up the hard work to keep improving during their practices. It would also be very appreciated if the parents and people of Meridian would come out to the games to support the Meridian Yellow Jackets. Especially on home games it would be very appreciated.
