2 President's Podium Submitted By Dave Byrne The flying activities at the field are in full swing & all three of our flying venues are getting a good workout. For the most part the field is in good shape. We had a first pass at fixing our drainage issues that has eroded portions of our main runway. Jim Waterman was kind enough to lend his skills and tractor digging a trench on the north & east side of the runway. He could not finish due to the wet soil and his backhoe sinking in the dirt. Thanks to Verlin for pulling him out. We ll be getting back in to do a final cut on the drainage ditch sometime in December. After that we ll start working on cleaning up the runway. We re also working on rebuilding the five flight stations that are getting a little long in the tooth. membership it is hard to know everyone and a few members have voiced their concerns about this. In the past we ve had a frequency control board that served two purposes. One was to make sure only one person was on a live frequency band and the other was to see who is flying and make sure they are club members. The use of the 2.4 broadband frequency, used by the majority of our club members, negates the purpose of the frequency control board, except for the few folks not flying on 2.4. So what the board has decided to do is that all members that fly on 2.4 will no longer be required to place their membership badge on the frequency control board and grab and display a frequency pin. For members that fly on 2.4, we re requiring that you just wear your membership badge conspicuously whenever you fly in any of the three This month we ll be electing three officers positions flight venues we have. 4 HeliCorner Submitted By Alan Moulton LINKAGES (Part 3 of 4) - Orthogonal linkages Now, lets move on to some not so good examples :-) This is wrong, it will result in non linear movement of your control and a non linear effective servo speed. If this is for example the linkage to your swash plate, you will end up with a very difficult to control heli since you introduced an "inverted exponential" in the control. This means that it will be very difficult to hover the heli. If you ever want to introduce exponential, then make sure that it is such that the control output is less around center, and more at the end of your stick movement. You can program such an exponential on nowadays TX's if you like. Again, be very careful if you are dealing with CCPM. 5 Newsletter Featured Build Great Job John!!! Ben Shereshaw Champion from April Flying Aces Magazine Started with original FF plans and a Klarich short kit. Converted to 3-channel RC and electric propulsion. Several changes were made from the original design such as reducing the dihedral from 24 to 1 5 degrees and making the wing two. Covering is HobbyKing lavender transparent and solid white. Custom designed graphics from Callie Graphics. Finished weight was 8 ½ lbs which resulted in a wing loading of oz/sq ft. Motor is an ExceedRC Kv with 80A Turnigy Plush ESC on 4S 4000mah Lipo which gives 20mins of leisurely flying. Guidance is provided by Futaba 8UAP. As can be seen in the airborne pics, it really glows in the overhead sunlight!! 9 Treasurer's Report Submitted By Verlin Boeder EVA membership renewal for year started October 1 st and ends December 31, This time frame coincides with AMA's renewal cycle. Both AMA and EVA memberships must be current to maintain flying privileges at our field. To maintain our field insurance the Arizona State Land Dept. requires that is furnished by AMA, all EVA members must have a current membership in AMA or MAAC. This is the first time in club history that there is a membership dues increase dues will be $50.00 for adult members and $60.00 for family membership renewal. New member application or yearly renewal forms can be printed from the EVA website, Using this form helps me keep the membership record more accurate. in EVA, be sure the new person has a current AMA number. I cannot make a club badge unless I have his current AMA number. EVA does not prorate membership dues at any time during the year. Dues are only $50.00 for an individual, $60.00 for a family ( spouse and children 1 7 or younger ) per year. A couple Saturdays ago EVA hosted a successful pylon racing event. Lots of fun, action, carnage, close racing, and excitement. The final race consisted of six race-planes at once. We did have one mid-air collision with much damage done to both planes. The pilots and callers were safe however. Helmets are required to be worn by the pilots during the races just in case parts fly into the pilot station. The only injury was suffered by "Yours Truely" When my hand brushed against the sharp-edged prop cutting my finger, the engine wasn't even running at the time. I have written several times in safety articles about propeller safety. One of the most frequent mishaps I see or hear about comes from arming electric planes in the pit area. Several weeks ago a member, who is usually very safe, armed a model to work on it while working on a pit table. The motor started up cutting his hand and several fingers. He bled for quite awhile and the incident pretty much ruined his day. If you feel you must arm an airplane while in the pit area to We are on FACEBOOK now... Please "Like Us"
