November 2nd Holiday Wreath Fundraiser November 7th Early Release, 11:30 Technology in the Home There will be a Technology in the Home informational meeting at the Friendship Village School for parents on November 13, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. Online educational programs such as Lexia, ixl and Word Voyage will be modeled and we will have some interactive games for parents to try. If you have access to a computer or an ipad at home and are looking for ways to help your child s reading and math skills, come check it out. Snacks will be provided by the Friendship Community Club. Friendship Village School Holiday Craft Fair Saturday, November 24th 9-2pm FREE ADMISSION Lobster Rolls, Chowder, Hot Dogs, Bake Sale Many Local Handcrafted items, Great Christmas Gift Ideas! Hand knit Items, Soaps, Photo Cards, Hand Blown Glass Jewelry, Ornaments, Gemstone Jewelry, Baskets, Doll Clothes, Lobster Treats for Salty Dogs and much more! 2 Medomak Middle School Annual Christmas Craft Fair Celebration Saturday, November 3 9am 3pm Medomak Middle School 318 Manktown Road, Waldoboro Come and shop local for that Unique Christmas Gift! Over 45 vendors with excellent Maine handmade & homemade items ranging from jams, chocolates, jewelry, paintings, prints, stoneware, knit items, clothing, ornaments, baskets, aprons, placemats, fiber, wood, slate, canvas items, cards, flower arrangements, balsam, lots of more! Some vendors are coming from Blue Hill, Lewiston and Woolwich. Free admission, door prizes & parking Special Raffle items Food and refreshments on site Surprise activities on site Benefits the students and MMS For more information, call Medomak Middle School at Benefit Dinner and Auction For The Gilbert Family November 10th, 4:30 to 6:30 Hahn Community Center Adults $7, Children $4 Families with 3 or more children $22 per family. Children 3 and under are free. Auction will be immediately following dinner at 6:30. Items for bid from local businesses and craftsmen. Waldoboro Youth Cheerleading Coaches Needed The Waldoboro Recreation Department has begun accepting registrations for the 2012 Waldoboro Youth Cheering Program. The program will be divided into two divisions: Competition (4th-6th only) and Sideline (K-6th). Coaches are needed for the Competition Program Both Cheering programs are scheduled to begin around the 3rd week of November at Miller School. Sideline will continue through the end of January and Competition run until March. Participants in the Sideline program learn basic cheering fundamentals and perform at pee-wee basketball games. Participants in the Competition program learn choreographed dance routines, stunts, cheers and perform at Maine Youth Cheering events. Due to competition rules, the squad size will be limited. Travel and a strong commitment to practices is required. Base registration cost for both programs is $ An additional $10.00 for those selected to the competition squad is required in addition to the cost of any needed nonreturnable uniform items. A $10.00 non-resident fee also applies. For safety, jewelry is prohibited at practices or events, this includes new piercings. Participants should register at the Waldoboro Recreation Department. For more information, or if interested in Coaching in the Sideline Program contact the Recreation Department at Medomak Valley Girls Youth Basketball Registration and Sign Up Clinics There will be two registration sign up clinics for all girls in grades 3-6 that are interested in playing basketball this winter. Parents may register their daughter at either clinic. Cost to register is $30. These clinics will be led by the MVHS girls varsity basketball coach Randy Hooper. Players should come prepared to participate in drills both days. Teams and coaches will be decided on Sat. Nov. 17 th. Practices will begin on Sat. Nov. 24. Games will begin on Dec. 1 Saturday November 10 th Warren Community School 9:00-10:30 Girls in grades 3,4 10:30-12:00 Girls in grades 5,6 Saturday November 17 th Warren Community School 9:00 Girls in grades 3,4 10:30-12:00 Girls in grades 5,6 Players may attend either or both clinics. Thanks to everyone taking the time to send these labels in!! 2012 Fall Semester Classes with RSU 40/MSAD 40 Adult Education Check course description for location of classes. Call for more information. To register and pay online, go to Intermediate Photography with Curtis Adams This class will focus on a more detailed study of the elements that make a good photograph. Students should have a working knowledge of their camera and will concentrate on composition, lighting and technique. The majority of the class will be _ield work with some night existing light shoots, and classroom critique. All work will be done with MANUAL camera setting and no image manipulation. Students need a camera, tripod, notebook and pen. Class begins Monday, November 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for 6 weeks. Fee: $55/$60 non- resident. MVHS Room 33. Upcoming Clay Classes with Bridgette Kinney Christmas Ornament Class for all Ages Adults must accompany children under age 16. This is an easy class for all ages! Each student will be given clay, stamps and cookie cutters to create as many unique ornaments as they can at the _irst session and then glaze them at the second session. Materials fee of $10 is payable to the instructor. Class meets Tuesday, 11/6 & 11/13 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Fee: $15/$20 non- resident. MVHS Clay Studio. Clay for Mommy & Me This class is for parent and child to work together painting two tiles. Families will receive tiles to personalize and a small shelf to frame them for display. Tiles will be painted with a low _ire glaze and then _ired. A materials fee of $25 per family is payable to the instructor. Class meets Tuesday, 11/6 & 11/13 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Fee: $15/$20 non- resident. MVHS Clay Studio. Pottery for Everyone - Glazing This class will be for _inishing and glazing the pots made in the _irst class or another class. You will receive glazes and creative tips on how to _inish your pots (pots will be _ired at cone 6). A materials fee of $20 is payable to the instructor at the _irst class. Class begins Tuesday, 11/6 from 6-8 p.m. for 3 weeks. Fee: $25/$30 non- resident. MVHS Clay Studio. Facebook for Individuals with Stacy Lash Bettencourt Social networking is changing the way we communicate with each other. Facebook allows users to create a free, multimedia, web- accessible, virtual space that is all about them! This class will cover pro_ile creation, photo and video uploading, as well as common features such as navigation, _inding friends, chatting, applications, groups and more. Students must be willing to create a Facebook page and have access to a web- based program (to verify the account once it is created). Class meets Tuesday, 11/6 from 5-7 p.m. Fee: $15/$20 non- resident. MVHS Room 30. Sea Glass as Wearable Art with Lynne Thompson Learn some of the basics for turning your treasure into wearable art. Make a pendant and a pair of earrings for yourself or to give as gifts. Sea glass and wire will be provided but feel free to bring your own pieces. Each student needs to bring a pair of needlenose pliers. A materials fee of $15 is payable to the instructor the _irst night. Class meets Wednesday, 11/7 & 11/14 from 6-8:30 p.m. Fee: $25/$30 non- resident. This class is held at Great Salt Bay School, Damariscotta. Yoga Therapy for Back, Neck & Shoulders with Patti Prema Kristiansen This therapeutic class will focus on healing movement to relieve pain and bring greater range of motion to the upper and lower back, neck and shoulders. All poses (asanas) will be modi_ied for individual needs. Breathing techniques (pranayama) and restorative poses to rest and heal will be an integral part of each class. This class is also wonderful for those who just want to stretch and relax. Class begins Wednesday, 11/7 from 5:30-6:45 for 7 weeks. Fee: $70/$75 non- resident. This class is held at the Thomaston Yoga Studio, 185 Main Street, Thomaston.
