Membership is nondiscriminatory and open to anyone who agrees to abide by Club By-Laws. A condition of membership for insurance purposes is current affiliation with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Our flying field is located at 6903 Randol Mill Road, 1/4 mile east of exit 26 off of Loop 820 at N W Visitors are welcome whenever the gate is unlocked. Free flight training instruction is available to members from 6:00 PM to dusk on Monday and Wednesday while Daylight Savings Time is in effect. Regular Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM at the McDonalds Restaurant, 450 Grapevine Hwy, Hurst TX. The McDonalds is on the north side of Grapevine Hwy, about.1 mi north of Hurstview Dr. Next Meeting: Tuesday October 9, :30PM McDonalds 450 Grapevine Hwy Hurst President s Notes Please do not forget that October is nomination month for your club officers. The current officers have discussed the upcoming year and would like for you to know that if you still want us fill the positions, we are happy to serve. If you know of someone that would like to serve, or if you would like to serve, please be at the meeting to nominate those individuals. The field is looking great as the cooler weather moves in for the fall. The outlying tall grass has been prepared for the new year. I think next year may be one of the best looking fields yet! The Christmas party tickets are on sale. There are only 45 of them, so make certain to get yours early. They are $18.00 each. Lewie Moore, Ivan Staats, Darrel Abbey, and Max Ficken have the tickets. We will have a good time with good food and fellowship. I surely would hate to miss you at the party, so get those tickets! The All-Scale Fly-in is October 6 th. Bring out those scale airplanes and have a great day at the field. There will be good cooking going on in the kitchen! Max has promised good weather for the event, too. I want to take this time to give a hearty THANK YOU to those that came out on the workday a couple of Saturdays ago. We had some work that really needed to be accomplished and we had about thirty members show up to work. We worked on cleaning up inside the perimeter fencing, fixing a leak in the sprinkler system, clean up of the starting stands and work tables, some electrical repair, and some general work around the field. 3 September Secretary s Report Opening: The regular meeting of the Greater Southwest Aero Modelers Inc was called to order at 7:30 P.M. on 9/11/2012 at the McDonalds Restaurant at 450 W. Grapevine Hwy Hurst, TX. By club President Tim Lovett. A. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the previous meeting had an error regarding the winner of the August Model of the Month award. The real winner of the award was Wesley Blair with his Sig 4-Star 60, and not the reported winner Chuck Rovell (although Chuck did do a good job presenting the aircraft). Please accept my humble apologies for the reporting oversight. B. Old Business 1. Fence Repair: Two openings were cut through the back fence area fencing, and the primary suspects are land surveyors known to be working in the general area. During the regularly scheduled work day the fencing holes old and new were repaired by a club member work crew Christmas Party: This years Christmas Banquet tickets are on sale now for $18.00 per ticket. Please note that there are only 45 tickets available and no more can be had after that. The club has over 160 members, so buy your banquet tickets as soon as possible because they will most probably become very scarce very quickly. Tickets will be available for purchase at the October business meeting. 3. Ed Morin Estate Sale: The estate sale will be conducted starting at 9:00 A.M. Saturday morning 10/13/2012. The items will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. See club web site for additional information. C. New Business 1. Flying Facility Vandals: The GSWAM club flying facility was vandalized causing the 2012 Big Bird event to be cancelled. In response to damage caused by vandals over thirty club members rallied together to repair property damage and perform field maintenance. There were was an abundance of pizza during lunch break for those who worked repairing hooligan damage, fixing sprinkler leaks, cutting back brush for a fire break, and cleaning tables. Hats of to all those dedicated club members who spent their Saturday working to keep their flying facility in tip top shape. 2. Additional Fence Repair Required: Attending club members approved the purchase of 50 of fencing material and 8 fence posts to complete the last of the needed perimeter fence repair work. 3. Meeting Program: Herbert Koven provided this months meeting program covering general electric aircraft safety issues, and provided some good safety tips for those who fly the F-22 foamie jet. D. Model of he Month 1. Model of the Month September 2012: Scott Hartford brought this months Model of the Month Award winner, and it s a true classic. The A. J. Fireball is a control line aircraft designed in the 1930s by the late Jim Walker. The power plant is a classic in it s own right being an Ohlsson.23. An interesting link about the A.J.
