1 No 12 Term 3 28th September 2017 Milang Campus Cnr Coxe & Rivers St Milang SA 5256 Friday 29th Sept Last day of term Casual day & Shared Lunch Early Dismissal 2.20pm Monday 16th Oct First day back of Term 4 Phone Fax Values Responsibility Care & Compassion Integrity Respect Cooperation Participation 2017 TERM DATES Term 1: 30th January - 13th April Term 2: 1st May - 7th July Term 3: 24th July - 29th September Term 4: 16th October - 15th December We have now come to the end of another exciting term at Milang Campus. As the warmer weather creeps in it is lovely to now be able to enjoy some learning outside the classroom. Our Widening Horizons Inquiry learning program is now in full swing with the Community Service group investigating the local services at the MOSHCC, the Environment group working down at the Lake, the History group conducting an archaeological dig and the Waste group looking at how to reduce rubbish in the community. I would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to all the Milang students who participated in Amateur Hour last night. It was a terrific atmosphere with some spectacular performances by all our young people. The Where the Wild Things Are dance and song included all the students and was the result of their music lessons this term. Our music teacher, Natalie Baker did a wonderful job ensuring all the children were able to participate regardless of their abilities. They all certainly looked liked they were enjoying themselves and the audience was very entertained. This event would not have been possible without the dedicated team we have working at Milang who put in many extra hours to make it happen. I would like to extend a big Thankyou to all staff for their ongoing efforts. It was also fantastic to see all of the students supported by their families, in the audience and in preparing them for their performance by making costumes. We also had many families donating to the raffle prizes and providing delicious food which makes all the difference. Our school community is growing and we all appreciate the support that is provided by our families. Another example of this is the many people who have been collecting Woolworths stickers for us. Our bin was full to the top and we had to recruit parents to help us fill the sheets. We are hoping to purchase some new resources for each class with our points which usually arrive at the beginning of the year. Last week four of our students, Charlette, Natasha, Cohan and Eve went to the Entertainment centre to perform in the Festival Choir. This is a choir of 1000 students from across the state and they have been rehearsing every fortnight since Term 1 to learn all the songs. It was a magical performance and I was so proud to see Milang students up on stage after all their hard work. Again this would not have been possible with out the support of our families, particularly Shannon, David and Lisa who have volunteered to take them to rehearsals at Strathalbyn. Thank you Just a reminder for next term; Hats are back and these must be school colours and broad rimmed. Students without a hat will need to stay in the lunch shed during break times. It is also essential that they are drinking lots of water as the weather warms up. Students must have water in their drink bottles. We are now only two school weeks away from camp so please bring in all your notes so we can finalise details. We will be meeting in Week 1 with Ashbourne to sort out beds etc so students without their forms returned may miss out being placed in a cabin with a friend. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday. See you next term. Susannah
2 Principal s report PEDAL PRIX Our school was again very well represented and successful at the annual Murray Bridge 24 hour Pedal Prix event held last weekend. Competing schools came from all over the state and were joined by a number of other school teams from other states. The scheduled start of 12 noon on Saturday was put back by four hours due to incredibly strong north winds, which effectively reduced the continuous race time to 20 hours. It was great to see so many parents and staff members there when the race finally began. For the second year our 7-12 team was joined by a team of boys and girls from our R-6 campuses. The primary team rode their bike Barracuda for 231 laps of the circuit which resulted in them coming in 31 st out of 54 teams in their division. The 7-12 machine, called Orca, covered 313 laps which meant they came in 26 th among the 53 teams in their division. This team was also awarded the coveted Pedal Prix Innovation Award for the design of Orca which was 3D printed by our Design and Technology teachers. Our warm congratulations go to all involved and especially our three dedicated teachers - Nick Pawlowsky, Dave Jennings and Dan Foureur, who worked hard leading up to and during this major school event. SPORTING HIGHLIGHTS The proud tradition of EFS students participating and excelling in a wide range of sports has certainly been evident of late. All students at the Strathalbyn R-6 campus enjoyed an excellent Annual Sports day last Friday, with McLean again winning the team shield. Darcy Springhall was the very proud coach of four Basketball teams who competed in a recent knockout tournament for Year 5 and 6 students in Adelaide. The four teams won every game and came back with the shield. This term we have also had EFS students competing successfully in alpine skiing and golf at a national level. Our congratulations to R-6 students Tom, Grace and Jack for their great skill on the icy slopes and to senior secondary student Andy, who was runner up in the recent Open Men s Country Golf Championships. It s been a big term of sport with our trophy cabinets now full of more shields including sports such as Netball, Football, Volleyball, Rugby and Equestrian. TIME FOR A WELL EARNED BREAK It has been a long, cold Winter and many of our families have been affected by some of the nasty illnesses that have hit the state hard this year. Now that Spring has finally arrived, we can all look forward to the upcoming term vacation. Our Year 12 students do not have long to go at all with their final exams fast approaching. This year s cohort have been achieving our best ever results so far this year and we are confident they will end up with very pleasing outcomes. A number of them will be coming in for support tutorials with their teachers during the holidays. We have a number of new students scheduled to start with us at the beginning of Term 4 and we look forward to welcoming them at our various campuses. My best wishes to all EFS students, staff and families for a safe and refreshing vacation. I hope all supporters of the Adelaide Crows have a great day on Saturday. Trevor Fletcher

7 I really liked when Josh threw the paper plane at the audience. Kowen I liked waving my arms up and down and spinning around with the tentacles in The Octopuses garden. I liked John s big brother. Jayden Laqushia and I did a song and I loved the supper. Nevaeh I liked being an Octopus. Kye Cringe class was very funny and it had lots of jokes. Most of the jokes I understood but some I didn't hear or understand. Dahla I liked the singing and dancing. Laela Miss Yard helped with the act and it was really funny. Bohdan The Cringe class was funny and they were telling lots of jokes. They all knew their lines and they did a good job. Jovi
8 Cringe class was an act with jokes like the half a cake, It was my favourite part. Kobie The best bit was being there and dancing when Max was on stage and we did the Wild Rumpus. Lachlan I loved the MOSH people because they were silly. Carly Cringe class was as it sounded, very cringy and set in a class. The most memorable by far was the awkward silence. Not only did it make everyone laugh it also appeared in another act. Many jokes, much laughter! Leyon Genisis was on stage waiting for his music to come and it didn't work. So I sprung in to action and went behind the stage and got the awkward silence sign for him. The crowd really laughed loud. Josh I loved the dancing, it was brilliant. Scarlett At Amateur Hour a few people did an act called Cringe Class. It was so funny. I liked it when Charlette got suspended and when Josh threw a paper plane at Mrs Yard and also when he stuck a sign on her. Everyone had a laugh. Dyllan and Emily
