Our Sonora, Flicker the Mother Lode Fairgrounds has come and gone and now we are looking forward to our Oceano Elks rally in August and some cool weather and maybe even some fog! Sonora was a fun rally and I ll tell you more about it in the Rally Report. We ALL loved the full hook-ups! Bruce and I are home until we leave for Oceano and then northward to Redmond OR for a Country Coach Rally. It s pretty warm here now, so I m looking forward to Oceano. We have a lot of our members having health issues and hope that you will keep all of Our Amigos in your prayers. I ll be more specific in a minute. I d like to remind you all to visit our web site as there is a wealth of information there. Paulette has done a fantastic job of having all the registration forms for each rally and other pertinent highlights for each rally and links to get other information. Not sure when as it has been postponed, but I m sure he would like to hear from you and asks for your continued prayers. ~ Address: P O Box 1839 Yucca Valley, CA Ruth Hewitt had hip replacement surgery in May and has been in a rehab facility since her surgery as progress is slow. Just talked with her and she s hoping to go home or to her son s in the next couple of days. 2 Rally Report: Sonora Flicker Hollow Mother Lode Fairgrounds ~ May 21-26, 2015 ~ Bruce & Jan Watson ~ Hosts Page 2 By 4:00 on Thursday, May 21, all the wagons had circled and it was time to start having fun. Nine coaches enjoyed the full hook-ups the Mother Lode Fairgrounds offers and we were off and running. Welcomes, Movies, Happy Hour and dinner filled the remainder of the day. Tony Vincent and Bob Golk grilled hamburgers and Jan and crew had the rest of the fixings'. It was so nice to see everyone and we had plenty of room to spread out in the Manzanita Building. Those attending: Bob & Debbie Golk, Jim & Mabel Hoag, Gary & Lynn Lamb, Richard & Judy Oliver, Bob & Carol Newby, Rich & Manni Ramondo, Russ, Lee & Rusty Tinsley, Tony & Betty Vincent and your hosts; Bruce & Jan Watson. Ralph & Susie Hiemstra popped in and joined us for several events. Jim Hoag turned 90 earlier in May and he and Mabel haven t missed a rally in years. They drive down from Scappoose OR every year to join us for this rally. It s so nice to see them & their beautiful blue and white Apollo! Friday morning found the Tinsley s in the kitchen fixing biscuits and gravy for brunch and of course there were Mimosas and champagne to get our hearts started. We visited until it was time to caravan to Indigeny Reserve. After a country drive and going through a covered bridge we entered a 160 acre preserve where they grow 51 varieties of apples and have more than 25,00 apple trees. We tasted the hard apple cider in the beautiful tasting room before our guided tour through the distillery. We then experienced the Apple Vodka and Brandy. Of course we had to stop in the gift shop to take home some of the goodies and the gift shop also houses many local artists wares. It was a delightful afternoon and we returned to the Fairgrounds for movies, Attitude Adjustment and dinner. After a rib dinner & strawberry shortcake we had a couple of Mind Teasers to keep everyone on their toes. Lynn Lamb got the prize! Saturday found Gary & Lynn Lamb fixing a delicious Egg Scramble that had lots of fantastic ingredients. With corn or flour tortillas and fresh fruit & champagne we were set until it was time to head to Columbia and hit the Ice Cream Parlor before the theater. Before leaving, we had a short business meeting. We nominated and elected Char Gibbs to be our Temporary Nation director for the Rally In Madison. Thanks, Char for volunteering for the job. (Thanks Dick, for volunteering her!) We had game 1 of our best of 2 out of 3 Beanbag Baseball. It was a rousing game and of course the Ladies shellacked the guys 30 to 24. Yeah, Team! We travelled to the Fallon House in Columbia where we saw Honky Tonk Angels. It was a toe tapping sing-a- long show with lots of the old country tunes and we all knew the words. Just a fun filled afternoon. We returned to the Fairgrounds to find Chef Dave preparing a delicious catered dinner. He served roasted vegetables, chicken, pork tenderloin and salmon. The Cherry cobbler he prepared for desert was excellent. It was a long day and we were all ready to head for our coaches. Sunday was a day on your own until movies and Happy Hour. The weather started out cool when we started the rally and warmed up every day. We all enjoyed a day to just goof off and do your own thing. Several of the ladies came out to the Bling Bling Barn so we had a fun afternoon! During Happy Hour we started our Bean Bag and Goofy Golf tournaments. Bob & Debbie Golk fixed Beef Stroganoff for dinner and it was delicious. They also served a hearty salad, garlic bread and dinner was followed by imported carrot cake for desert. Jim & Mable Hoag brought 2 of those huge delicious carrot cakes from Reno. We enjoyed them on Sunday and Monday. Monday sure rolled around quickly and I was in the kitchen fixing French Toast Soufflé for our brunch. We enjoyed link sausage and eggs to order as well as fresh fruit. Now it was time for game 2 of the Beanbag baseball. The guys could do no wrong and they really whipped our butts. (We had to let them win so there would be a game 3) They put us to shame winning 41 to 25. We had some left over's for a late lunch and then resumed our play off games. We play as individuals as there weren t enough of us to play teams. In Bean Bag the ladies kind of took over and the final was Betty Vincent playing Judy Oliver. Judy came out as this years champ. Goofy Golf was interesting as we were playing on a concrete floor so a whole different technique with the bouncers' The Guys seemed to come out on top and the play off was Jim Hoag vs. Tony Vincent. Tony was victorious. Now we are to game 3 of the Baseball playoffs. As the tension builds the cheering is boisterous! The guys started out hot and we were cold. By the 4th & 5th innings the gals were catching up and finally got some runs.

3 Page 3 In the 4th inning the score was Guys 33 Gals 16. Yikes...we better get moving here. By the end of the 6th inning it was Guys 35-Gals 33. The guys got to play the bottom of the 7th, so they won by the NARROW margin of 41 to 38. It was a pretty exciting game to say the least. Time for happy hour and dinner. Rich & Manni were preparing tri-tip with Cole slaw, baked beans corn on the cob and garlic bread. For those who had room we had carrot cake for dessert. Debbie Golk showed us a new way to cook sweet corn in the M/W and how to shuck it without getting any silk left on the cob. It was pretty slick. Time to hit sack after a busy day. Tuesday we had a few leftovers but not many showed up. We cleaned up the building and emptied the refer and were all headed in different directions. Thanks to everyone for coming and we ll see you at the Fairgrounds again for Flicker Hollow #23. Thanks to all for all your help in making this a fun get together! God Bless! 4 Amigos Oceano Elks Rally~ August 9-14, 2015 Page 4 The Oceano Elks Lodge charges $30.00 per night for camping. ($150.00)You will pay at the Lodge when you arrive and be sure to have your Elks ID Card and know your Lodge Number. We will have dinners at the Lodge each night (except Tuesday) and that will be a night on your own. (We have usually gone to the Mexican restaurant down the street) We will prepare a breakfast/brunch every morning & I ll need volunteers for that. Champagne and Mimosas will be served. I need to know if you are interested in attending the Great American Melodrama on either Wed. August 12th or Thursday August 13th. We normally eat the Pub Menu at the theater so we don't have a time conflict with the Lodge. Tickets are usually about $22.00 per person. I need to make our reservations soon, so if you are planning to attend, please let me know ASAP. We ve never seen a bad show and several of us attend both performances. Go to: for a synopsis of the shows. You can pay me at the rally, but if agree to attend and then cancel you are still responsible for your tickets. Once I know who plans to attend we will make meal arrangements. Food assessment will be collected at the rally. This is always a fun rally as we get to goof off and play and not work real hard. 5 Bottom Line: For the Oceano Rally you need to contact me, Jan, as Rally Master Ramondo will be in Hawaii. I need to know if you are interested in the Melodrama and which night you want to attend. Please respond by July 12, 2015 as I have to make reservations ahead of time. Send Registration form & $20.00 rally fee to Lime Kiln Road, Sonora, CA You will pay for camping once you arrive at Oceano and register with the Elks Lodge. Registration due by July 25th, BUT I need to know about the Melodrama by July 12th! For the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival, you might want to check out the information Paulette has on the web site for alternate camping sites. We were only able to reserve 7 spots and the State Park and those have been spoken for at the time we made the reservation, so there is a waiting list for those in case someone has to cancel. There are other parks available and that information is on the web site. Last year the people that were there said it was a lot of fun and a perfect post Indio Rally. There are 4 nights between the end of Indio and going to Havasu on Thursday. Normally spaces are available at the Fairgrounds to extend for a few days or you can go to another campground, but you need to make reservations now if you plan to go to another campground as that is a busy time in Indio. Just saying! More Flicker Hollow Mother Lode Fairgrounds Jim & Mable Hoag travel from Scappoose, OR every year for this rally. Jim is 90 and Mabel right behind him.
