1 RAIDERS Alpharetta High School Daily Announcements Thursday, March 1st, 2018 POST DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS IN CLASSROOMS NEWEST NEWS, INFORMATION AND REMINDERS! Track Raider Track team began their 2018 track season with a meet at Centennial High. The top performers for the meet was Jamall Ellis, Preston Jackson, Matthew Ashe, Robbie Ruppel, Kent Cherry, Austin Frazier, Austin Joyner, Jovanni Ranglin, Eric Evonsion, Jaden Slocum, Michael Scaiffe, Tim Green, Josh Flynn, Top performers for our lady Raider Track Team are: jayla Mobley, Kendall Brown, Aliyana Aris, Katherine Reed, ohnichio Bailey, Samantha Stansbury, Sara Gotwalt, Reed Racine, Maureen Renkeen, Arin Evans, Natalie Camera, Amina Eldahshoury, Caroline Wemple Great Job Raiders. This Friday and Saturday our Varsity Raider Track Team begins their season at the Milton Showcase. Currently our boys track team is ranked 4th in the state. Running starts at 430 on Friday and 10 AM on Saturday. Come support your Raider track team as they begin their march toward the state meet. Good luck raiders. Boys Tennis Alpharetta JV Boys tennis kicked off reginal play with a win against Cambridge, 4-1. Srikar Yendapally and Sahil Aneja won their singles matchups, and Mayank Raghuwanshi, Justin Yang, Rishi Magiwala, and Chance Phillips won their doubles matches. Freshman Baseball The freshman baseball team is looking to get back in the win column with a doubleheader at West Forsyth on Saturday beginning at 12:30 PM. Come out and support the guys! AHS Foundation Scholarships The Alpharetta High School Foundation is proud to announce the creation of two vocational scholarships of $ each. These scholarships have been created for students who will continue their studies or training at 2-year degree, vocational or certificate programs and does not include four-year degree programs. If your future plans include studies or training within one of the categories below, please apply for one of these newly created scholarships: Arts - including painting, drawing, sculpting, photography, culinary, performance theatre, dance, and music. Technology - including video production, game design, computer programming and app development. Vocational - trades including electrical, plumbing, landscape architecture, automotive repair, aircraft maintenance, construction and appliance repair.
2 Healthcare - including nursing and aids, physical therapy assistant, radiology techs, pharmacy tech, eldercare, dental assistants and lab workers. Entrepreneurship - including starting your own business whether it is an online business, service business or brick and mortar store. Applications can be found on our website or with Ms. Vezeau in the front office. The completed application is due no later than March 23, and should be turned into counseling suite Prom Students- if you are on prom committee, there is a meeting tomorrow (Friday) AM at 7:30 in the Media Center! ATHLETICS Woman s Soccer Congratulations to the women's varsity soccer team for their 2-0 win over Oconee County on Friday. Ellie Fuller and Dara Fuller each scored goals on assists from Mary Wygle. The team takes on region rival Johns Creek here at 5:55 on Tuesday in a game that could decide the region championship. Please come out and support both Raider soccer teams in these crucial games. Men s Soccer Congratulations to the Men s Soccer team as they have moved to 4-0 to start the season. On Friday night, they defeated Oconee County 4-0. The defense was solid all night in securing their second shutout of the season. Ayoob (I-Ube) Abubaker started the scoring in the first half and Ahmed Selim (Suh-leem) made it 2-0 with a goal less than a minute later. Reda Vanden-Bosshe added two goals in the second half to put the game away. Region play begins this Tuesday night as the team hosts Johns Creek at 8:00. The girls game begins at 6:00. Please come out and support th teams as they begin their quest for region titles. Baseball The freshman baseball team has won two of their last three games since Saturday, splitting a doubleheader with Blessed Trinity, and beating Cambridge on the road on Tuesday night The team is now 3-1 on the season and looks to improve at Forsyth Central on Thursday night at 5:55. JV Girls Tennis JV girls tennis team got another win for the 2018 season. On Thursday, February 15 they beat west Forsyth. Players who racked up wins on Thursday: Trisha Patil at 2 singles; Sophia Abedi & Tanvi Patil at 2 doubles and Jennifer Ryu at 3 singles. Boys Tennis Congratulations to the Boys' Varsity Tennis Team and their 3-2 win over Northview High School! Wins in the singles lines by Patrick Lazo and Ethan Berry and a win in one of the doubles lines by the team of Connor Reitz and Brandon Banke. The Raiders demonstrated a "Titan" effort in their win against Northview! Track and Field
3 This weekend our Raider Track and Field team competed at its first indoor Track meet at Dunamis Sports indoor Track complex in Emerson, GA. The top perfomers for the raiders were: Jamal Ellis 4th in the weight throw and 11th in shot put, Robbert Chappell 8th in the 800, Preston Jackson 9th in the 200. The boys 4x400 relay took 3rd overall team of Robbie Ruppell, Errol Williams, Arat Joanico, Preston Jackson. Also having a strong showing for our raiders was. Lauren Nash, Kira Wiklund, Taylor Martin in the 800, Natalie Camera in the shot put, Jayla Mobley, Catherine Reed in the 400, Kendall Brown, Dylan Merrell, Austin Joyner, Jaden Slocum, Josh Flynn in the 200, Jordan Hall, Reese Felton, Brandon Wright in the 400, Sean Rager great showing in the mile, Great job raiders. Soccer Congratulations to the Women s Varsity soccer team for their 2-1 victory over Forsyth Central on Tuesday. Jenna Horton and Abby Schwartz scored goals one minute apart with assists from Sabrina Veillon and Kate Roth. Teams: If you have posters you want hung around the school, please drop them off to Mr. Bolin in room 3316 for approval ARTS CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS Science Olympiad had an awesome day at our Region tournament on Saturday. - Anna Zhu and Amogh Gadekar placed 4 th in Material Science. - Shardul Vaidya and Abhay Sastry placed 1 st in Astronomy. - Marissa Ren and Jessica Zhang placed 4 th in Ecology. - Marissa Ren, Jessica Zhang, and Harish Kanthi placed 3 rd in Experimental Design. - Richard Cho and Rohit Das placed 3 rd in Thermodynamics. - Maggie Lee and Amit Kulkarni placed 1 st in Fermi Questions - Matthew Buxbaum and Dan Doss placed 2 nd in Game On. - Krissy Valluru and Vivian Cheng placed 3 rd in Remote Sensing. - Anna Zhu and Jenny Heo placed 2 nd in Rocks and Minerals. - Krissy Valluru and Vivian Cheng placed 4 th in Forensics. - Aparna Subramaniam and Jessica Zhang placed 2 nd in Forensics. - Sarang Pujari and Kruthik Ravikanti placed 4 th in Moustrap Vehicle. - Shardul Vaidya and Breandan Mead placed 3 rd in Towers. - Amogh Gadekar and Anna Zhu placed 1 st in Anatomy. Our A Team placed 4 th in the Region and will be moving on to the State Competition at Emory University on March 31 st. National Social Studies Honor Society Membership applications are open for National Social Studies Honor Society, scan the QR codes in the hallways to apply, all applications will be due on March 5th, don t forget our next meeting is on February 29th at 7:45 am in 3323! Debate At the Harvard debate tournament, the team of Suchetas Bokil and Shivan Moodley finished in the top 32 out of approximately 90 teams. They continue their success as one of the most successful sophomore-sophomore
4 teams in the country. Let s wish Suchetas, Shivan, Saanya Saurabh, and Sakshi Desphande good luck at the Varsity State championship this weekend! LATINO MENTORHSIP CLUB The Latino Mentorship Club will be having its next meeting this Thursday, March 1 st in the Media Center (Project room) during A and B lunch. All male Latino students are welcome. Lunch will be provided. Spanish Club Spanish Club will be having its next meeting this Wednesday, February 28th after school in Señora Ferrer's room. We will be celebrating the festival "Carnaval" and will be learning more about its traditions. Please be sure to participate and food will be served! TAG Internship Attention rising juniors and seniors who are in the TAG program: If you are interested in a TAG Internship during the 2019 school year, please come to room 3317 and sign up for the Hire Me! Skills for Career and Internship Success seminar. The seminar is held during Anchor Time and is a prerequisite for selecting TAG Internship as a class. Raider Tickets Hopefully by now you know that our school has a positive behavior initiative where teachers and staff give out RICH Raider Tickets to students when they are observed exemplifying characteristics of Respect, Integrity, Citizenship and Hard Work in short Raider R.I.C.H. characteristics. Students, NOW, it is your turn! You will now be able to nominate a teacher that you see exemplifying these characteristics! Just look for the bright pink flyers around the school with a QR code and tinyurl! If your nominated teacher gets selected, they receive a reward and so will YOU!. Science National Honor Society Science National Honor Society is currently accepting applications for the Spring Semester. The deadline has been moved to the end of school on Wednesday. To access the application, you can scan the QR code on the flyers in the hallway or you can go to tinyurl.com/snhsappspring2018. We look forward to seeing your applications. Robotics Congratulations to Alpharetta Robotics Club s All-ladies rookie Team Eclipse. Eclipse went undefeated in Saturday tournament winning first place making them eligible to participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge state competition on February 24 at Clayton State University. This means Alpharetta has two teams going to state Team Black and Team Eclipse. Thank you for your hard work and gracious professionalism. Beta Club 14 members of Beta Club attended convention last week in Savannah. Several students participated in various academic competitions. Amanda Wang brought home first place in visual arts as well as third place in onsite acrylic painting.
5 Speech Team Congratulations to the Alpharetta Speech team on all their success this weekend at Emory University s Barkley Forum Speech and Debate tournament as they competed against more than 200 other high schools from across the United States. Ruthie Bodeep, Katherine Sommers, Anders Nelson, Karthik Ramasawmi, and Delaney McGowan all performed outstanding presentations with the Duo Interpretation team of Ramasawmi and McGowan breaking to semifinals and securing a spot at Nationals in Denver this May. Clubs: If you have posters you want hung around the school, please drop them off to Mr. Bolin in room 3316 for approval OTHER Popcorn Fridays Raiders - freshly popped popcorn is for sale every Friday during both lunches for $0.50 in the cafeteria! Prom Prom 2018 is at the Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta on Saturday, April 21. The theme is Shanghai Sunset. Tickets go on sale Monday, March 26 online. on twitter for more details! Make Up Days An was sent announcing Fulton County Schools plan for making up lost instructional time. Please review the information along with your parents so you are familiar with the plan and the changes in the calendar. Tardies Teachers and students, We are starting tardies for second semester due to the snow week and multiple schedule changes. Students please make sure that you are arriving to class on time and be mindful of the consequences of being tardy. Tardies are calculated by individual period. The first three tardies will be handled with discretion of your individual teachers and any subsequent tardy will be referred automatically to administration for discipline action. If you receive 4 or more tardies to any of your classes, you will receive the following disciplinary consequence: 4th Tardy - 1 lunch detention 5th Tardy - 2 lunch detentions 6th Tardy - 1 Extended day 7th Tardy - 2 Extended day 8th and any subsequence Tardy - In School suspension and further action taken by your administrator.
