1 RAIDERS Alpharetta High School Daily Announcements Tuesday, September 25 th, 2018 POST DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS IN CLASSROOMS. THE LATEST AND GREATEST Speech Team Congratulations to the Alpharetta Speech Team for dominating the Riverside Carolina Kickoff Tournament in Greer, South Carolina this past Saturday! In Storytelling, Avantika Ramanathan won 2nd place and won 4th place in Program Oral Interpretation. In Novice Dramatic Interpretation, Lauryn Lovett won 2nd place and Julia Miller won 3rd place. In Varsity Dramatic Interpretation, Hana Soomro won 3rd place. In Varsity Duo Interpretation, the team of Hana Soomro and Harika Kosaraju won 2nd place and the team of Katherine Sommers and Delaney McGowan won 3rd place. And the overall Alpharetta Speech Team won the prestigious percentage award! Congrats!" Volleyball Senior Night Senior Night is this Thursday Sept 27th for our Lady Raider Volleyball Team!! All Seniors get in free and we will celebrate our Senior players. Festivities start at 5:30pm. Please come out and cheer them on as they take on Northgate and Lambert. We hope to see you all there!!! NHS Attention Juniors and Seniors. Criteria and applications for the AHS chapter of the National Honor Society are now available on the home page of the Alpharetta High School website. Student ID numbers have been posted of potential eligible juniors and seniors with a 92 or higher Cumulative Numeric Average (CNA). Completed applications are due on or before October 4 th. A hand written essay is one part of the application. All NHS applicants must choose one of four opportunities to sit here on campus for a 45 minute session and craft a written essay response to a question that will be provided at the session. If you have questions, please Mrs. Green at greenkb@fultonschools.org. LATINO MENTORSHIP CLUB Latino Mentorship Club will have their next meeting on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 H in the Media Center during A and B lunch. All male Latino students are welcome. Please come to Ms. Papp s room 1320 to confirm your participation. Lunch will be provided.
2 Zumba Class If you enjoy upbeat music, dancing and burning calories join our United Latina Club Zumba Class every Wednesdays at 3:45-4:45pm in the cafeteria. Everyone is welcome. There is a one time cost of $10.00 please pay online. Just head to the AHS website, click on OSP and look for United Latina Zumba Class. Properties/Category.aspx?categoryid=EN701 Chick-Fil-A Helmet Raiders: go to the Alpharetta commons Chick-fil-A on state bridge and vote for our AHS football helmet! We are up against Hooch and Johns Creek. The winning school gets free chick-fil-a! Voting ends November 2nd! Homecoming Court All Students: Homecoming court nominations are now live! Find a yellow flyer with the voting QR code on it around the building or go to twitter page to vote! Nominations end this Thursday, September 27th. Other Reminders Emergency Early Release Weather stickers are in! Come to the front office to get one. Anchor Time schedule today Surface Distribution GOOD TO KNOW Surface distribution will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays only during your lunch period. PSAT Raiders! The PSAT is quickly approaching and we want to make sure you are prepared to do your very best! We have started a PSAT Question of the Day. These questions will be posted in the cafeteria and media center on the TVs during both lunches. Once you are ready to answer the question, scan the QR code and fill in the form. Winners will be selected EACH DAY at 4:00pm and will receive a prize from Dr. Kersey! Do your very best to participate and make every effort! Replacement ID Cards New ID cards will be made in the Front Office Tuesdays and Thursdays. 1 st replacement ID cards will be printed at no cost. After the 1 st replacement ID card has been printed, any subsequent ID cards will be printed for $5.00. Students who have a picture on their ID card that is 2 years or older (i.e. you are a senior but your ID card has your sophomore picture on it), may come to the front office for a replacement ID card with an updated picture printed at no cost.
3 The Morning Show The Morning show wants your announcements, commercials and ads to be heard! Starting Friday, if you would like an ad to appear on the morning show, simply go to ahsvideo.com and click on Request a segment...read the instructions, fill it out and submit. Only the requests made on AHSvideo.com will be included on the Morning show. No other announcements will be read those days. Remember that requests are due no later than 11:00 on Tuesdays for the Wednesday show and 11:00 on Thursdays for the Friday Show. If you have any questions, contact Tracy Misner in room Posters and Flyers Clubs or Sport Teams: If you want to hang posters or flyers around the school, please take them to Mr. Bolin in 4206 for approval. Without the approval stamp, they will be removed from the walls. Football SPORTS The Raiders were victorious again Friday night with a win over the Dunwoody Wildcats to go 3-1 on the season. The players of the week were: For Offense: Will Gerdes #16-6 of 9 passing, 152 yards, 2 TD, 13 yard Rushing TD For Defense: Jamal Ellis #53-4 solo tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 Sacks For Special Teams: Matthew Ashe #28-3 Touchbacks (6 kickoffs inside the 10 YL) Come out this Friday as the Raiders take on Centennial High School. Cross Country On Saturday, the Alpharetta Cross Country team competed against 97 teams from across the southeast in the most competitive meet in Georgia this season. The boys varsity, ranked fifth in the state in 6A, competed in the Championship race and finished 15th as a team in the race overall and they were the tenth fastest team from Georgia. Sean Rager was again the top Raider finisher, finishing 18th against a loaded field. Jason Song who had missed the last couple of races ran very well and was the second finisher for the Raiders. Arat Joanico, Will Ashe and Nate Jarrow were close behind. The girls varsity, ranked sixth in the state in 6A, also competed in the Championship race and finished 29th as a team. Sara Gotwalt was again the Lady Raiders top runner. Lauren Nash ran very well and was close behind Sara at the finish. Daley O'Brien, Kira Wiklund, Berkeley Bender and Reed Racine, who easily had her best race of the season, were next. The JV boys competed in the JV Championship race and finished 23rd in the team standings. Freshmen Alex Wiklund was the first JV runner for the Raiders to cross the line. Eric Joanico, Grady Etheridge, Hayden DeVore and Jackson Frizzell were close behind.
4 The JV girls competed in the JV Championship race and finished 28th as a team. Megan Meehan was the first JV runner for the Lady Raiders. Amelia Valdez who had missed the last couple of races ran well and was close behind Megan. Emma Freeman, Cierra McFerrin and Maureen Renken rounded out the scorers. The Open Boys finished seventh as a team. Stiven Buckingham. Cole Mahoney and Matthew Holmquist were the top three finishers. The Open Girls finished eight as a team. Grace Fenwick, Autumn Starbird and Michele Solares were the top three finishers. The Raiders will be off this weekend before competing in the Asics Invitational on October 6th as they start to prepare for the upcoming championship meets. Soccer The first Women's soccer team meeting will be in room, 3213, after school, on Thursday, September 27 th with coach Heather Turner. This is for new players, anyone interested in playing soccer, as well as, returning players. You're the bomb! Unified Raiders CLUBS Unified Raiders is in need of Volunteers for Special Olympics and homecoming events. There will be a Unified Raider Meeting on Friday, Sept 28 at 7:45 in 5104 (home living). Please come to the meeting if you are interested in volunteering. You do not need to be a club member or be in the Unified Raider Anchor Time to volunteer. Unified Raiders is a fun way to get service hours. See you on Sept 28th. Go Raiders! Blood Drive OTHER The Red Cross Blood Drive sponsored by the Science National Honor Society is approaching, and will be held on October 2nd from 9:00AM to 2:00PM in the Auxiliary Gym. By donating blood, you have the potential to save 3 lives! All are welcome to donate blood at the Fall Blood Drive. Snacks and drinks, along with pizza at lunch, will be provided to all who donate. Donators will also receive an excused absence from class. Please refer to the QR codes posted in science classrooms to check your eligibility to donate blood. NHS Attention Juniors and Seniors.
