4 Showcasing Diversity Author: Ayrton Seals, junior Photographer: Andrew Moy, senior Published: Nov. 10, 2015 View the blog and photo slideshow online at For the OCCRA Diversity Tournament on Nov. 7, our robot did great, performing better at each match throughout the day. The diversity competition was a fun experience that allowed the girls to be drivers, operators, and human players. Rules for the tournament: Co-ed drive team: Consists of two boys and two girls. Boys and girls work on the robot. (1 match). Our co-ed team: Erica Wolfe, junior; Gabe Jimenez, junior; Summer Bennett, senior; Brendan Gallagher, junior All-girls drive team: Consists of 3-4 girls and only girls allowed to work on the robot. (2 matches). Our all-girls team: Erica; Summer; Ysabel Miller, senior All-boys drive team: Consists of 3-4 boys and only boys were allowed to work on the robot. (2 matches). Our all-boys team: Gabe; Brendan; Michael Garcia, sophomore; Jackson Grey, freshman. Adult and/or mentor drive team: Just for fun and all team members allowed to work on the robot (1 match). Our parent team: Brendan s dad; Andrew Moy s parents; and Greg Mulsoff s dad. Check out a video of the parents in action: All of our drive teams did well. However, our adult drive team did very well, especially since this was our parents first time driving this robot in competition. What made the competition really fun was watching parents compete on the field. Other teams had some parents more prepared than others, but it was nice to let the adults have a bigger role for a change. Our robot had a fresh new look for this competition. We replaced the rotating pipes with two wheels that did a much better job sucking in the ball and allowing us to score frequently. There are some minor kinks we need to work out from the turntable on the robot to the programming and controls. Our robot did put up a great fight. Even though our team did not win any awards this time, we still learned to become more aggressive on the field of play by attacking other robots and playing better defense. We were the loudest group in the stands. We had glowing blue 2612 numbers, and we also had those loud hand clappers that ignited the room and made others teams take notice because we were loud and full of spirit. Here's a quick look at our team spirit: I m so pumped for the next competition that we have on Nov. 12 at Orchard Lake St.Mary s. I hope to see you all there Let s go, Corsairs CALLINGALLCLASSOF2017PARENTS)WENEEDYOURSUPPORTTOSELLRAFFLETICKETS SubmittedbyLauraPugh WehaveraffleticketstosellthatwillbenefitOURchild sclassof2017.stopbyour nextmeetingandpickupapackof50tosell.ifeveryparentpicksup50tickets;we willhavethemsoldinnotime.
