Everyone here has benefitted from being a member of HULA in many ways. Friendships are made here and life of fitness has flourished between all of us. It is healthy organization that enables us to get the exercise we need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Line dancing gives you an excellent opportunity to meet people from all over that share the same interests as you! It's always fun to find someone who shares your passion for dancing. Learning new dances is always fun and exciting. I encourage you all to continue to grow and recruit others to learn as much as you can. Another fun thing that comes along with dancing is the travel! There are several line dance groups and conferences that you can travel to. The next conference will be held in Indianapolis, from June 2-5, This will give you opportunity to meet people from all over the country and learn new and exciting moves. I would like to thank everyone who participated and volunteered at our Annual HULA Picnic at Tom Bass Park on Saturday, April 9, 2011 which was a great BLAST! Good news for Houston line dancers! There's a new group of movers and shakers on Houston's urban line dance scene. They refer to themselves simply as Friends of Line ance. The group of eight line dance lovers originally came together following the United We ance (UW) Reunion in June of Inspired by the exciting and ever expanding line-up of new dances coming out of etroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, etc., the group determined to learn the dances (with Gail Houston volunteering as instructor). The goal was two-fold: to encourage greater participation by Houston dancers at United Weance events as well as to introduce new dances to the Houston line dance community. In addition to the full load of UW classes, each year the reunion provides plenty of opportunities for networking with instructors from across the country; obtaining information on line dance websites, classes, and events nationwide; and for making choices from a wide selection of instructional Vs. The Friends' first project was to put on a workshop at Barbara Jordan Park. The event was planned by LynetteJones and was very well received. New dances were taught by Gail Houston. The next project undertaken by the Friends has been the hugely successful First Fridays Line ance Party at Club Taylor's where some VERY serious line dancing has been spotted. Kudos to La Shaunda Kirkpatrick and Gail Houston for making these events possible. Recently the Friends hosted a Friday Nite Line ance Party designed to attract line dancers on Houston's north side. It was held at Chicago Bar and Grill and once again, a rather large crowd of line dancers were observed as they got their groove on. It appears that the Friends are off to a very good start. The Friday night parties are set to continue. The group is committed to its goals of expanding Houston's line dance community; to introducing new dances; and to having fun on the dance floor! *22' ($76 Crab Stuffed Flounder Per serving: 400 calories / 60 g protein / 8 g carbohydrates / 6 g saturated fat / 1 g fiber / 695 mg sodium / 210 mg cholesterol 3 tablespoons butter 1/4 cup minced onion 3 green onions, chopped 1/4 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped 1/2 celery stalk, minced 2 garlic cloves, minced 1/2 pound crabmeat, shredded 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs Sea salt and peper 2 pounds flounder fillets (8 fillets) 1. Preheat oven to 350 degress. Lightly grease a baking sheet. 2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, green onions, bell pepper, celery and garlic; saute until onions are soft. 3. In a bowl combine crabmeat, seasoning, bread crumb, and salt and pepper to taste; mix well. Add onion mixture from saucepan. 4. Place 4 of the fillets on the baking sheet. Mound crab mixture in the center of each of the 4 fillets. Cut the remaining 4 fillets in half lengthwise down the center. Place 2 of the fillet halves lengthwise alongside crab filling on top of each whole fillet, leaving crabmeat filling exposed. 5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until fillets are firm and white. Serves 4

3 /,*+76 3/$&(6 '$1&( HULA, we have been offered a unique opportunity to showcase HULA specifically and line dancing in general for what could be a national audience. The 2011 Summer Senior Games (formerly Senior Olympics) will be held in the Houston from June The City of Houston is recruiting different organizations to entertain in the athlete village at the George R. Brown Convention Center. HULA has been extended one of those invitations. Each participant will be given the opportunity to perform a minute routine. For HULA to participate as an organization, we need members volunteers to coordinate the exhibition, as well as dancers to perform. Mike ozier, business man and CEO of T-Mike and Jean ozier Mobile Js was sighted doing some enthusiastic moves with great joy at the Pink Go Western ance at Judson Recreation Center. T-Mike has been a committed supporter of HULA since our beginning by providing his great musical skills at many of our dances but he left all the dancing to Jean. Recently he started attending Shelia Brown s class at the new YWCA on MLK Boulevard and is one of her most outstanding students. Two of his favorite dances are Bikers Shuffle and The Wobble. Check him out one of our next parties. February 14, 2011 was the day we found ourselves dancing among the stars, consisting of twelve line dance groups from the greater Houston area. Mr. Wilbert Shields Jr. masterful music lineup WOWE everyone to shake, wobble, dance and move! Each group was distinguishable and well represented in their respective t-shirt colors. The introductions of officers from the various groups was highlighted by each telling their group name and location. The food, fellowship, fun, and dancing created a day to remember. Our mission was to do something different and memorable. The smiles and compliments did just that what more could we ask for! A variety of token door prizes distributed by Bobbie Henderson and Ms. Muriel Jackson as MC, were filtered throughout the dance, bringing smiles and a little competition all in fun, of course! These are the nine categories awarded to our guests in honor +8/'$ PHPEHUV and appreciation of their time spent: February 14th birthdays; oldest senior dancer; largest shoe size; smallest shoe size; Valentine s ay wedding; grandparent who has - 14 grandchildren; or 14 great-grandchildren; or grandchild 14 years old; married high school sweetheart; safety pin; or red car. The Third Ward Line ancers hope to reproduce the same fun and line dancing again next year. We found out that we truly danced among the stars, adding a new dimention to a legacy of sharing the love of dance with those whom we know.
