We had 15 youth weigh in 144 animals. The weather was good and the day went very smooth. Thank you for all your help! Queen Application Shaving Cream Rule Bucket of Junk Pie In the Face I would also like to thank all the volunteer leaders who a ended our spring leaders training this past week. We appreciate you and everything that you do for the Tama County 4H Program. Thank you for all you do and all the me you give! 2 FSQA Last Chance FSQA I have scheduled ONE FSQA training night here in Tama County. This will be your only chance to take the training and then you will have to find another county to complete your training. FSQA Training : Thursday, May 24 at 7:00pm at Tama County Extension Office. 4H members in grades 7 12 are strongly encouraged to contact the Tama County Extension Office and schedule a me to take the test. 4HERS FOR 4H 4Her s for 4H Due If your club plans to contribute to the 4Her s for 4H campaign please have your check made out to Iowa 4H Founda on and your completed form to the Extension Office no later than May 15. FAIR SCHOLARSHIP A en on Seniors Tama County Fair Scholarships This scholarship is designed to recognize outstanding high school students who par cipate in the Tama County Fair through 4 H or FFA. This year s scholarship will be two $500 scholarships. Applica ons may be obtained from school guidance counselors or the Tama County Extension Office. Interested young ladies can pick up an applica on at the Tama County Extension Office or by contac ng Karla Novotny at This is an excellent opportunity for personal growth, and development of leadership and speaking skills. 3 Tama County Fair 2012 July Weigh In date for sheep, rabbits, meat goat and breeding beef will be held Saturday May 5 at the Fairgrounds in Gladbrook. If you did not receive a le er containing the informa on and mes please contact the Extension Office. Animal ID s Due May 15 Animals that did not have a weigh in/ Id day must be ID ed in 4honline by May 15. You will not receive an ID form in the mail. The system will lock down a er May 15. Do not wait un l the last minute you can do this any me. Bo le calf, bo le lamb, and pets must bring or mail a photo to the Extension Office by May 15. SHAVING CREAM RULE The following has been added to the rules in the Tama County fair book. Shaving Cream is Prohibited Consequences for not following the rule is stated in the fair book as follows: Failure to abide by ALL rules may disqualify the exhibitor for one year and will result in forfei ng any prizes, premiums, and trophies (championships) for all PERSONAL livestock DEVELOPMENT and non livestock exhibits. All exhibits will be judged and receive wri en/oral comments and ribbons only. Pie In The Face The County Council will be holding a new contest this year at the Tama County Fair, Pie in the Face. Containers will be placed in the Klinefelter building with names/ photos of the nominees. Fair guests will get to vote by placing money in jars. The top 3 nominees will get the honor of having a pie thrown in their face on Friday night during Fun Night. The County Council is looking for nominee sugges ons. If you would like to make a sugges on please contact the Extension Office by May 15. All Funds collected from the contest will be donated to fair and scholarships. Club Booth The Theme for the club booths this year will be Brighten Your World. The Club Booths will be set up in the same ma er as the past. Booths will be set up according to number of fair entries for each club. The Youth Commi ee will be crea ng the booth sizes. Member Insurance One club leader from each club should have received a bill from the Extension Office with the amount of the club s por on of the insurance. Please send your check to the Extension Office as soon as possible. Poultry The Tama County Fair Board is looking for a poultry superintendent. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested please contact the Fair Board President Jim Novotny or the Tama County Extension Office.. 4-H IS BASED ON RESEARCH

These county wide day camps have been set on the following dates and loca ons. These camps are open to any 4H member or non member in grades K 3 (as of May 2012). Registra on forms will be sent home to all youth from the schools. Forms can also be picked up at the Tama County Extension Office. There is a $15 per camp fee. Camps are held for 9am 3pm. 6 The Tama County Fair Associa on will be having the Bucket of Junk contest for the 2012 County Fair. Anyone is eligible to enter this contest. A five gallon bucket of unique junk pieces will be provided. All the buckets will include the same number of items that are as close to iden cal as possible. There is a $20.00 refundable deposit due when a contestant receives a bucket and this will be refunded when they return their entry. You may clean, sand, weld, glue, cut, bolt, fasten, bend, shape, paint, or finish the item that you are provided. NO pieces may be added; you may leave out only one item. Create whatever you want with the contents of your bucket. The goal is to use all the items in your bucket to create a sculpture or lawn art. You will be asked to name your crea on when you check in at the fair. Entries will be on display at the fair beginning Wednesday a ernoon, July 18th. The public may vote for People s Choice by placing coins in a container near their favorite piece one penny equals one vote. The crea on with the most votes will earn the designa on People s Choice and win all the money in the buckets. The Tama Fair Associa on will provide a 1st place award of $50.00; 2nd place award of $25.00; and 3rd place award of $ The art will be judged on crea vity, use of materials, and cra smanship. All decisions by the judges are final. All sculptures will be the property of the Tama County Fair Associa on and will be auc oned Friday night, July 20 on the county fairgrounds. All proceeds will go to toward Tama County Fair Scholarships. The buckets of junk will be available June 9 a er 8am. (Par cipants under the age of 18, must have adult supervision.)
