3 JOB OPENING We have 2 openings for the Newsletter committee. Please contact Lion Tom Willy or Lion Gary Flick. REPORT ON RECENT ACTIVITIES We hosted the Zone Officers Training on May 10 th. In attendance were Leawood Lions Harry Malnicof, C.C. Warlop, Leroy Kashka, Mike Klein, Steve Baughman, Doris Nelmes, Ramon Canent and Chuck Schutty. Candy Days on May 2 nd & 3 rd and on 16 th & 17 th raised $2,703.91, which when combined with the $1,000 gift from Wal-Mart received earlier this year, equals $3, After deducting the Candy Purchase costs of $75.00, the Net Proceeds for Candy Days that we will send to the Kansas Lions Sight Foundation is $3, Job well done! Our May 13 th meeting included a presentation by 6 of the new Eagle Scouts from Troop 10. Since that Troop is sponsored by the Leawood Lions Club, the Scouts who achieve Eagle are entitled to an achievement certificate from Lions Clubs International. Below are pictures of the new Eagle Scouts and of one of the award presentation.

4 The May 27 th T-Bones Game/Service Club Challenge was more of a challenge than expected because of cold, windy weather. Approximately 18 of our members and spouses braved the weather to participate. We joined other District Lions Club in donating substantial food for the Harvesters Food Bank. Unfortunately, the Kiwanians took home the trophy as the Kiwanis clubs donated over 1250 pounds of food. District Governor Lion Neal Nichols has already raised the battle cry: "Just wait till next year!" DISTRICT CELEBRATION AND MINI-CONVENTION There will be a mini-convention at the Kansas School for the Blind, 1100 State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday, June 14 th. Registration is from 8:15 to 9:45, and the program starts at 10:00 am. There will be a tour of the school, including the workshop where the tools we helped fund may be on display.

5 After lunch there will be some business, including elections of directors to the State foundations. Two of our members will be standing for election -- Lion Jim Rochel from our Club needs to be confirmed as a continuing Director of the Kansas Lions Sight Foundation, and Lion Harry Malnicof is to be nominated to be a Director of the Kansas Lions Foundation. After the elections there will be presentation of awards, including the Woody Edgington Award presented by our Club. The convention should end by 3:00 or thereabouts. Registration costs $9.00 and should be made by June 6 th. Tell the Secretary or President if you want to be registered, or you can register directly using the form at the end of this newsletter.
