Hello Everyone, Talk about some big changes in the weather, one day I am wearing short sleeves and the next I am breaking out the long johns. As you all know our Chapter Christmas Party is fast approaching and I will need some help from some of you for this event. We will be decorating the tree and maybe some other things for this event. If you can help with this please let Deb, Alice, Tim, or I know. Any help we can get will be greatly appreciated. Also the officers meeting is on Nov. 10 th the state is requesting that the following team members attend. CD s, ACD s, Treasurer, MEC, Ride Coordinators, and Motorist Awareness. The meeting is in Obetz and starts at 9am. Lunch will be on our own. We will also need to have all of our chapters completed passports and any logo s for the Buckeye Rally for this meeting. Hope each of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving. Please keep all of our members who are recovering or ill in your thoughts and prayers. Til next month I will see you all down the road. Wayne & Deb Wolf CD s Hi Everyone, Looks like fall has finely arrived. The leaves are just starting to turn colors and the temperatures are falling. I know that I am not ready for the white stuff that comes next. So we better get out and enjoy this cooler weather while we can. Things are a lot better for me. I HAVE MY BIKE BACK!!! All Seasons did such a great job that you can't tell that it was even wrecked. I know that I will be out riding my bike, just to make up for lost time. Cathy said that she will not get back on until next spring, but that is not stopping me. We had a smaller turn out than last year for our annual Teddy Bear ride. The Ashland Hospital was very appreciative for all the stuffed animals they received. They have around 300 children go through their emergency room each month. We are looking forward to Chapter I's Road Kill Stew and Auction on Nov. 3rd at Apple Creek. They start serving at 4:30. On Nov.9th we will have our annual ride to North Fairfield's American Legion for fish. We will be leaving the Big H at 5:00. Our Christmas Party is scheduled for December 1st at the Council on Aging. The fun starts at 5:30. Please turn in your money and sign up form to Guy. These are just a few of the events our Chapter has on the ride schedule. Please check your schedule for additional events we have planned. You would hate to miss out on all the fun. We will be having our next planning meeting soon, So if you have fun places for us to ride or great places to eat, please let us know. Until next time. Denny & Cathy ACD (2)

District Rider Ed Educators Bill & Pat Stiles Motorcycle Gear for Staying Safe Picture this, the door swings open, you strut through in your black leather jacket and boots, doing your best to conjure Marlon Brando in the Wild One. Everyone turns; you are clearly the coolest person in the room. There is clearly no better reason than that feeling to buy motorcycle gear. Well, except this one safety. The clothing we choose to wear during riding is the only thing between our skin and the road and it is incredibly important. So, what do you need? Jacket Pants Riding Suits Gloves Boots Jacket The head, arms, and legs are the most often injured in a crash. Learn how to keep your head safe by reading our section about helmets. To protect your arms, you need a good motorcycle jacket. A good jacket will be made of nylon, leather, or Kevlar and be well constructed. Check out the seams at any of your sharp points (elbows, shoulders, etc.). The stitching should be strong and enforced at these points. Also, a good jacket will include heavy padding on the elbow, spine (yes, that's very important!) and the shoulders. Additionally, if the jacket is nylon or Kevlar, it should include reflective stripes.. Whether it means going to a store or ordering a couple of different jackets to try, the first time you buy a jacket, you need to try it on and make sure it fits. An ill-fitting jacket might result in injury if the protective parts of the jacket shift during a fall or accident. But it can't be too tight, make sure you have room for a sweatshirt or vest on cold days. Also, sit on your bike with the jacket on. It might feel great standing up but make sure it's long enough to cover your back while on your motorcycle and that it is not uncomfortable. Make sure the sleeves are long enough to cover your wrists when your arms are on the handlebars. If you are a winter rider, check out jackets that have side laces and a belt that allow you to adjust the jacket to your body. This allows you to fit the jacket after putting on some warm layers. Many jackets have zip out linings, therefore they can be used all year round. On the other end of the spectrum, if you are lucky enough to live in year round warm weather or are a summer rider, check out summer-only jackets which are thin and highly perforated for ventilation, but still have armor. Pants That covers the arms, now, let's address the legs. Many riders wear jeans, but it's worth it to invest in pants made specifically for motorcycle riders. Like a jacket, good pants will be made of leather, nylon, or Kevlar. For winter riding, pants can not only offer protection, they can keep you warm. Insulated pants or chaps are a good choice and can be bought coated for rain resistance. Riding Suits If you are serious about riding, and want to really protect your limbs, you can invest in a one- or two-piece suit. Although a bit expensive, these offer substantial protection in case of a fall and go on and off quickly. If you are going to the office, you can fit a riding suit right over your (other) suit or khakis. Look for a suit that offers lots of armor pads and has good venting; these can get hot in the summer. (3)

Gloves Gloves should be worn regardless or weather, and there are different types for warm and cold weather. Warm weather gloves are usually leather or Kevlar and good ones have carbon fiber knuckle protection and are un-insulated but provide protection should you fall. Winter gloves provide the same level of protection but are insulated. Waterproofing is also a good idea. Watch fit when buying gloves, if they are too bulky in the palm, you could lose the feel of the bike and the controls. Good gloves should also have long gauntlet cuffs that fit over your jacket sleeve to prevent wind from getting up your sleeve. Watch any seams between your hand and the grip or between fingers. A couple of hours with a seam rubbing your hand and you'll be hurting. Reflectivity and bright colors add to us being seen and this can be carried all the way to our gloves. Boots Whew! You're finally dressed and ready to go riding. Until you look down and see your bare toes wiggling around. Last thing you need are some protective boots. A motorcyclist should have boots with a short heel; this allows the boot to fit on the motorcycle peg while still providing good ankle support. Boots should be at least 6" tall as that will offer some ankle protection. Boots can be as high as 17", which are useful for use against cold wind. Leather is a great choice for a boot, as leather provides much greater protection than that stylish, yet utterly thin, fabric on your new Nikes. Make sure the boot has a good, durable rubber sole that provides traction and slip resistance. The thicker the sole, the more the boot will absorb the vibration of the bike. TO OUR CHAPTER Thank you for the prayers, calls, cards, and visits. It makes you feel better when people care and our chapter always cares. Carl is much much better and we hope to get back to chapter doings soon. Marge & Carl Group at our supper ride to Scoops in New Pittsburg with our cute little server Hello Everyone, Wow what crazy weather we have had. 80 degrees one day and the next it s only 45 degrees. I think it s safe to say that Mother Nature is a bit bipolar. With the big change in the weather it is that time of year when we all reflect on the great rides we had this past riding season and make plans for the next riding season. If anyone has any ideas for rides for next year please make sure to right them down and give them to any team member. Then we will have them for the ride planning meeting on Dec. 2, I also want to remind everyone to check their membership cards and renew when needed. Thank you all for your help with this. Deb Wolf (Acting MEC) (4)

Fall was late this year, but this week the temperature has dropped and leaves are just starting to change to those beautiful autumn shades. Hopefully the grass will stop growing with it getting dark earlier and cooler temps. We had a good trip to the New England states. We were intentionally early for the fall colors but missed all those leaf peepers and bus tours of people. We only had rain one night and the last hours coming home but otherwise good biking weather. We completed our goal of visiting all the lower forty-eight states on our Gold Wing. If you are ever in New Hampshire, try to visit the World War II Museum in Wolfeboro. It focuses on the years 1939 to 1945 on the home front and the switching over of industry to support the war effort. Fascinating place. We thought we would spend an hour, but left 3 ½ hours later and had not seen it all. Also visited the Frederick Remington Art Museum in Odgensburg, NY. He created the bronze statues and paintings of the Old West. What an experience to see those statues up close and from every angle. We were not certain what to expect but we both enjoyed it. We saw a moose, very close to the road! It totally ignored us as it kept on eating as we rode past it. We have missed most of the events lately since we gave priority to three grandsons playing soccer and my mother s 101 birthday celebration! She is doing well and loved the attention so many family and friends gave her. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Oberholtzer s Halloween party. Thanks O s for hosting it. Norma and Larry Raining today. Just cleaning house and washing clothes. Whoop de doo. Bob rode the bike a week ago. He had a birthday last Thursday and we celebrated by going to Lynway for supper. Not much going on. Hope everyone is doing okay. Hope to see everyone at Halloween Party at Larry and Bonnie's on 27th. Dress up crazy or not, just go. Bring a covered dish to share. Holly & Bob (5)

Well here we are watching another riding season come to a close. All of a sudden it s Fall and we know what comes after that. Our Teddy Bear Ride attendance was down a bit but we still had a nice turnout and plenty of stuffed animals to deliver, unescorted once again, to the hospital. A big thankyou to everyone that came and supported us. Since then we have had a couple supper rides with a couple more coming up in November. Bonnie and I made our annual golfing trip to the Myrtle beach area earlier in the month. The weather for the most part was nice but we did get some of the effects from hurricane Michael. Looking forward to seeing all of you at Bonnie s house for the Halloween Party. Larry & Bonnie Editor s September Progressive Drawing Joann Lake s name was drawn. She was not present to claim her prize. Next months drawing will be for $90. Be sure to attend every Gathering with your GWRRA card. You could be the lucky winner. In the May 2018 newsletter was a picture and article of the Snow Wing. A snowplow that your Wing mounts to without much alteration. Just in time for winter this year, for those of you that live in areas with heavier snowfall, is the Blow Wing manufactured by the same American company. The big difference is the Blow Wing is sold as a complete unit. As the picture shows, the rear wheel is replace by a rubber track for added traction and the front wheel has been removed with the forks mounted directly to the blower unit. High traction skids are used to aid in turning. The blower unit has its own drive motor and with the powerful Gold Wing pushing, it is able to remove fluffy snow, one foot deep, at speeds up to 35 MPH. To manufacture the Blow Wing the company buys used Wings to keep the cost down. But with the Gold Wings reputation for reliability that should not be a problem. The same accessory canvas cover with plexiglass windows, that fits on the Snow Wing, to keep you out of the elements if you feel the need, is available for the Blow Wing. Since the year and condition of the bike altered to power your Blow Wing affects the manufacturing cost of each unit, you will need to contact the company at for pricing. (6)
