1 Page 1 of 5 November 2007 Volume 2, No. 3 Special Spartans Return To Campus Gracing the parlours of Old Sayre again, some very welcomed guests visited Sayre in October. Mercedes Fuller Stapleton 33 was escorted by Mr. Elmer Morgan. It was The famous Century of Progress International Exposition has opened in Chicago, the movie "Casablanca" opens in New York City, and in Lexington, KY, Sayre School graduates 9 young women including Charlotte Wintz Wilson, Louise Linville Hill, and June Bramble Brown. Several years ago, Louise and Charlotte shared their memories as students at Sayre. Read their story in their own words. Fall Reunion

(Photo by Emily Cathcart '02) Stephen Gant Johnson 93 was inducted into the Sayre School Athletic Hall of Fame. From Conflict to Harmony Homer Simpson could learn something here! Learning productive conflict management skills will be the message on Monday, November 5, at 8:15 in the Jasko Room of the Buttery when Barbara Braham, Ph.D., MCC, conducts a Learning Bridge Audio seminar for Sayre parents. Coffee will be served! Fall Sports Round Up The Girls Golf Team finished the season with a fantastic record of 8-2 and also won the Class A Regional Championship. Allison Hancock received the low average and most improved player award. Congratulations to the Boys Golf Team on placing first in the 11th Regional Tournament, 7th in the All A State Regional, and 14th in the Regional Tournament. Outscoring their opponents 50 to 31, the Girls Varsity Soccer Team finished with 12 wins, 7 losses, and 2 ties. Not only did they win the District #26 title for the 2nd straight year, but they also made an appearance in the Regional #13 Finals yet again! Congratulations all! Great season! Pirates of Penzance Enjoy the Middle School musical production of Gilbert and Sullivan s "Pirates of Penzance" Thursday, November 29, and Friday, November 30, at Transylvania s Carrick Theatre. The production is free of charge and begins at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, the 29th, and 8:45, 10:30, and 1:00 on Friday, the 30th. ARGH!

3 Page 3 of 5 The Best Kept Secret The Upper School Fall Concert will be Tuesday, November 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrick Theatre at Transylvania. The concert features The Sayre Singers, The Spartones, and the Instrument Ensemble. This free concert is one of the best kept secrets at Sayre School and never fails to be a crowd pleaser. If you are a Lower or Middle School family who would like a preview of things to come for your Sayre student, please join us. 4 Page 4 of 5 October Scenes From Sayre School Highlights from the 2007 Sayre Golf Scramble, October 8. Winning a round of golf at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville were Barry Stilz '81, Chuck Adams and Jay Cowden. The winning foursome were Sayre coaches and teachers John Halter, Bill Hill, Tim Bator, and Erik Johnson who each won an engraved sterling cup. Upper school students who volunteered to help were: Alex Cantrill, Tyler Gamble, Sydney Lutz, Allison Hancock, and Dougie Hilliard. Halloween 2007 Kindergarten costumes in Mrs. Asbury's class on Fall Festival Day, October 26.
