4 I. New competition, new rules Two competitions: Two competitions will take place on January 11th and 13th: The European cup and the international combined test event. It is strongly advisable to register online. There are only 40 places per sex available for speed. The first register will be sure to have a place. There will be registration on site of the competition 16 o'clock on January 10 at the cinema of Champagny in Vanoise. For all, you must be at 16 o'clock on January 10 at the Champagny cinema in Vanoise. You will get your bib. For those who only do the European Cup in speed, there will be registration at 8 am on Saturday, January 13 th at L Argentière La Bessée, Place du Quartz (ICE Village). Go to : The price is : Name Price Lead European cup 50 Speed European cup 50 Lead and speed European cup 60 International combined test event 75 The European cup The Lead event of the European Cup will take place in Champagny on January 11th. The podiums will be at Champagny in the evening. For this competition two roots will be offered: a qualifying track and a final track. On January 13th, the Speed race of the European Cup will be at L Argentière-La-Bessée. The podium will take place in the evening at L Argentière-La-Bessée. For this competition two roots will be offered: a qualifying track and a final track. For the qualifications, two competitors will start together, doing each one the route of the other. The same for the final. The single registration fee is 50 euros for one disciplines and 60 for both. International combined test event These lead and speed roots, will also serve the international combined test event. On the same tracks, on the same schedule will run the ranking for the international combined test event. There will be only one podium, the Saturday evening with L Argentière-La-Bessée. The registration fee is 50 euros, and 75 if you do European cup and International combined test event. 4

5 II. 1st International combined test event rules International combined test event competitions include a lead/difficulty competition and a speed single-route competition. International combined test event includes categories for men and women. A. For the Lead Lead/difficulty competition will be held in Champagny-en-Vanoise (France) 11 Jan in two rounds: Qualification and Final. The quota for the national team is not limited for the Qualification. The number of participants of Final lead/difficulty round is 18. 6 B. For the Speed Speed single-route competition will be held in L Argentière-La-Bessée, Pays des Ecrins (France) 13 Jan in two rounds: Qualification and Final. The quota for the national team is not limited for the Qualification. It will be two attempts for each climber. The best result will be taken into account. The number of participants of Final speed round is 18. Scoring / Ranking: The Athlete s score is given by multiplying the Athlete s ranking (place) in both disciplines. The lower the score the better. In case of tied score the athlete with best result in difficulty competition is better in combined ranking. The winners of both the men's and women's categories shall be awarded, respectively, gold, silver and bronze medals. 6

7 III. How to register It is strongly advisable to register online. There are only 40 places per sex available for speed. The first registered will be sure to have a place. There will be registration on line and in Champagnyen-Vanoise during the bib receipt. The Champagny sign-in will be from 4pm to 16pm on January 10 at the Champagny-en-Vanoise movie house. The L Argentière-La-Bessée sing-in wil be from 8 to 9 am on Saturday, January 13 th at L Argentière- La-Bessée, Place du Quartz (ICE VILLAGE Welcome Center). For those who only attempt the European Cup in speed, there will be registration from 8 to 9 am on Saturday, January 13 th at L Argentière La Bessée, Place du Quartz (ICE VILLAGE Welcome Center). 13 V. How to reach Champagny? Concerning your transportation to reach Champagny most of you will either take the tain or the plane. Two gateways are possible if you take the plane, it's either Geneva or Lyon. For those who take the train, different train stations are available. Shuttles in Champagny Some of you come by car, note that there is multiple parking in Champagny where you can park your car. Keep in mind, we have free shuttles that leaves from Champagny-le-bas (in front of the office tourism) that reach Champagny-le-haut. Here is the link concerning the free shuttles: H16-17.pdf Taking the shuttles to reach the site of competition is not an obligation, if you prefer going by car it s possible and in this case you ll park it in the parking reserved for the competitors. 13

17 VIII. Obligation of presence As a reminder, unless specifically authorized by the President of the Jury, all competitors shall attend the opening, award and closing ceremonies. Failure to observe this regulation shall make a competitor liable to a 'Yellow Card' sanction, or in case of the three best ranked competitors of each category, to a 'Red Card' sanction. A. Registration: The check-in starts at 4pm in the movie theatre of Champagny, after 18 pm no registration for the competition will be authorized. The price of any registration is 50 euros. It doesn t change if you register only for speed; only for lead or for both categories, the price to register is 50 euros. B. Technical meeting: From 6pm to 7pm there is the technical meeting. Your presence is also mandatory. C. At the final All the competitors must be present at the final. In case some of them are not present, we will have to disqualify them. 17

18 IX. Area registered in a protected environment. Please note that both competitions are taking place in a protected area and that these events aim for a sustainable development. It is everyone's role to make sure that the premises and the spot stay clean. We've added a rule for this year competition that includes the right to eliminate any athletes that doesn't respect the environment. I invite you to read attentively the local regulation: 18

20 XI. What about the transfer between Champagny and L Argentière-La-bessée The organization does not support the transfer. It is your responsibility to organize transportation from Champany to L Argentière-La-Bessée. By road you have two possibilities: By the tunnel of the Fréjus, which is the fastest. By the tunnel you will have to pay in addition to motorways tunnel, 43.5 the way and 54 euros return. By Grenoble which is longer but more economical. 20

21 XII. The ice fall in L Argentière la Bessée The town of L Argentière la Bessée is very proud to welcome you in the most known icefall area in France. This competition will be held during the Ice Climbing Ecrins (ICE) festival, one of the biggest ice event in the world. During three days, more than 500 participants are climbing in this very hot spot, visiting wild valleys of Freissinières and Fournel, where more than 300 icefalls freeze. This 28 th edition of the ICE festival hardly welcomes you Saturday, the 13 th of January to this first speed competition on a natural area. The whole team of organization, volunteers, the French Federation of Alpinism (FFCAM), the town of L Argentière la Bessée, and communities of Pays des Ecrins wish you a good time. ICE Village Welcome & Shuttles departure/arrival: ü Registration from 8 to 9 am at the ICE Village (Place du Quartz, L'Argentière-la-Bessée). ü Shuttle transfer from 8:30 to 9:30 am to the competition area (no place for parking & individual cars), return from 2:30 to 3:30 pm to the ICE Village. ü Please take all your stuff with you (food, water, vacuum bottle, warm clothing, material). ü The results will be announced at 5pm at the ICE Village ü Awards ceremony will be held from 6:45 to 7:30 pm at the ICE Village 26
