1 THE COUGAR NEWS Welcome to 2017 to all and hope you have a great year ahead. Corrimal District Cricket Club would like to take this time to welcome back Graeme Batty to the club. Graeme played four seasons for Corrimal and part of that played in three grand finals, winning two (2005/06 and 2008/09). During that time, he led the 2008/09 team to victory over Balgownie. At the half way mark of the season, we have two that that are in the top four in their respective competitions (2 nd Grade and Under 16A s). There are many of our teams that are just outside of the top four and looking for a big finish before the semi-finals in March. From Tuesday, 3 rd January through to Wednesday, 11 th January the Australian Country Championships will be at most Illawarra grounds. Ziems Park will be part of the carnival by hosting three women s T-20 matches. Saturday, 7 th January (2pm Start) New South Wales vs Northern Territory Sunday, 8 th January (10am Start) South Australia vs Western Australia Tuesday, 10 th January (10am Start) South Australia vs Victoria Season 2016/17 Issue 9 2 nd January, All, are invited to come enjoy the cricket at Ziems Park. Congratulations to Tom McDevitt who will be playing in an exhibition match on Monday, 2 nd January from 6:10pm at North Dalton Park. He will be playing for the Cricket Illawarra Invitational XII against the Australian Country XII. Come down and support Tom against the best players in country cricket. Ahead of the Game is a newly developed program being run by the University of Wollongong and Cricket Australia, among others. The aim of the program is to improve youth mental health through community sport. It targets adolescent male mental health by engaging with the whole community around the local sports club. It involves a series of different programs which have been designed with input from young male athletes, coaches, and families in the Illawarra region. Programs will be running later this year look out for consent forms and some questionnaires in the next few weeks!
