Th film was drawn from th comprhnsiv crickt film library in th possssion of Glnn Gibson, a good frind of both th ACS and th MCC group. W wr fortunat that Glnn was on hand to commnt on th action from tim to tim, although th film also had its own tam of xprt commntators who followd th action as th English tam undr th ladrship of Ln Hutton travlld around th country winning frinds for crickt whrvr it wnt. In addition to Hutton who ld th sid cautiously but snsibly, th tam boastd Compton, Edrich, Evans, May, Cowdry, and most significantly a strong bowling contingnt ld by Bdsr, Tyson, Statham and Applyard. Sadly, as w all know, Hooksy was accidntally killd outsid a St.Kilda pub whn th tam was on th vrg of raping th ultimat rward for its xcllnc during January, Grg also mntiond th tam s grat achivmnt in chasing down a mammoth scor of ovr 400 to dfat a star-studdd NSW lin-up in Nwcastl. H rightly placd th mphasis on th consistnt batting throughout th sason of Elliott, Hodg, Hussy and Moss, and th magnificnt contributions mad by th bowlrs, particularly by Lwis, Wis and McDonald, who all took ovr 30 wickts in th sason, as prim rasons for th ovrall succss of th tam. THE ACS S 10 YEAR REUNION LUNCHEON AT THE KELVIN CLUB FOR THE VICTORIAN INVINCIBLES WEDNESDAY, 27 NOVEMBER, Thr was an xcllnt gathring of Socity mmbrs and frinds at th Klvin Club on Wdnsday 27 Novmbr last to join in th clbrations with th playrs and officials who had hlpd Victoria win th Shffild Shild (or Pura Cup comptition as it was thn calld) during th sason of Thy lookd back on this triumphant sason and rmmbrd som of th dds which had ld to Victoria achiving th top spot on th Shffild Shild Tabl aftr thy had gon through that sason undfatd. Among thos prsnt wr Goff Tamblyn, Tony Dodmaid, and Shaun Graf, all of whom ar snior officials at Crickt Victoria. Among th playrs and officials who wr part of th Victorian tam during that victorious sason wr th Snior Coach Grg Shipprd, th Chairman of Slctors Mick O Sullivan, and a distinguishd contingnt of playrs ld by th captain Darrn Brry and including Mick Lwis, Allan Wis, Bryc McGain, and Jonathan Moss. Jonathan Moss. Jon Moss, who had travlld down from Sydny for th function, rcalld th intnsity with which th Final was fought out by th playrs of both sids. H paid tribut to David Hooks who taught him how to bliv in himslf and thus nabld him to giv a much mor positiv contribution to th tam s succss Mick Lwis and Allan Wis. Bryc McGain who is th Principal of th Elit Crickt Acadmy which is at th momnt training th ACS s young crickt scholar Adam Cosgrov, had bn askd spcifically by Prsidnt Kn Piss to spak about his work in ducating and training young lads in th ag group yars at his Acadmy. H mntiond that th youngstrs undr his charg wr involvd in a thr yar program which involvd spcial skill sssions, thr day camps whr th boys rcivd intnsiv training, a crickt-playing tour to Darwin, and a crickt playing tour to India whr th boys rcivd th bnfit of participating in th activitis of a larg Crickt Acadmy with which Bryc had stablishd links. H assurd us that young Adam Cosgrov, th ACS s first crickt scholar, was blossoming and growing into a matur and xcllnt young cricktr. 4

Th dinnr was hld in th dining room of th Kooyong Lawn Tnnis Club in Glnfrri Road, Hawthorn a suprb location for such a dinnr. Many of th gusts had com straight from th Mlbourn Crickt Ground whr Australia was in th procss of giving th touring English crickt tam a lsson in how to play crickt. Aftr our Prsidnt, Kn Piss, had introducd our gust of honour to his highly xpctant audinc Hnry launchd into his talk in no uncrtain mannr. H told us that, bing an Englishman, h was naturally disappointd in th way England was playing, although h wasn t altogthr surprisd at th comparativly on-sidd natur of th crickt bing playd in this currnt Ashs sris. H lookd back to th Ashs Tour to Australia whn Ptr May s English sid arrivd on ths shors as th ovrwhlming favourits to dfat Richi Bnaud s much youngr and lss xprincd Australian sid. Yt in th final analysis th much bttr crdntiald English sid had bn soundly dfatd Mrs Blofld, Mr Piss and Mr Blofld at th ACS Christmas Dinnr by th youngr but much bttr focusd Australians. Looking back ovr his long association with th gam, Hnry sighd, shruggd his wll-clad shouldrs and obsrvd mattr-of-factly that th gam was not th sam gam that h knw in his boyhood and young manhood.
