4 Bannf: Not too much snow, but way too much Fun! By Td Zubck On Saturday, January 13 th, 34 GM Ski Club mmbrs took th driv to th Windsor Airport to start an xcllnt advntur. Thos who had nvr flown out of Windsor wr in for a ral trat. On th way to th airport w had a chanc to stop at th Duty Fr to pick up a fw supplis for our vacation. Littl did w know, th liquor stors in Banff wr opn 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. 7 days a wk. Arriving at th airport thr wr no lins of cars or vans to struggl with and no crowds of popl to push and shov with. Instad w pulld up to th front doors, droppd off our luggag, and parkd about thirty yards away at long-trm parking. Thn w wnt back to our luggag and took it to th chck in dsk about 20 stps away. Evryon was on tim xcpt Matthw and Trsa Shabr. Thy wr vry arly. Thy wr offrd and accptd an arlir flight, so that thy might spnd a littl mor tim in Toronto bfor our flight arrivd. In Toronto, whil w wr waiting for our flight, w ran into a fw of our Skiwi frinds who wr having luggag problms. Th Skiwi's lft Toronto an hour bfor us but whn w arrivd in Calgary thy wr thr, still waiting for th lost luggag. Th bus rid to Banff was unvntful and upon our arrival at th Travllr's Inn, chck in was a brz. Accommodations wr xcllnt with a grat outdoor hot tub. Som of th mor nrgtic popl wnt into town (w wr a whol block away from th businss district). Sunday morning most of th group hadd for Lak Louis. Th snow accumulations in Albrta ar as low as th watr lvls in th Grat Laks. Evn so, th skiing was dcnt, spcially at lowr lvations. W had a good first day of skiing. Now back to th Travllr's to try out th hot tub and gt rady for our Wlcoming Party. Th party was hld in th confrnc room at th Travllr's. W had liquid rfrshmnts and snacks, a good chanc to gt acquaintd with our travling companions. At th party vryon rcivd a gift crtificat to th local stak hous. Monday w wr off to Sunshin Villag. Sunshin dosn't hav snowmaking, so conditions wr rough. Rocks, ic and closd trails wr th norm for th day. Aftr skiing, it is back to th hot tub and a good chickn dinnr at th Cav Rstaurant. By Tusday w know th ara, and th group is sprading out a bit. Som cross country ski, som sight s and othrs plan a day of snowmobiling in British Columbia. W wnt to Lak Louis whr aftr a day of skiing w njoyd th Torch Light dinnr at th mid mountain rstaurant. Entrtainmnt was by th group Suds. Thy kpt us going all night. Kathy Galn took scond in th limbo contst, which put us nar th front of th food lin. Aftr dinnr w skid down th mountain with only flars to light our way. Quit an xprinc. Wdnsday and Thursday th hardcor skirs wr using up thir lift tickts whil othrs visitd th hot springs, Banff Springs Hotl, Chatau Lak Louis, or wnt shopping. Thursday night ightn of us wnt to Bumprs Stak Hous to us our gift crtificats. Most had prim rib, and I don't think anyon was disappointd. On Friday a small group wnt to Mt. Norquay, 5 minuts outsid of Banff. Th runs wr stp and icy. Karn and Trry xprincd skiing with lk and mountain shp. I was thr arlir in th wk, but I didn't s any wildlif xcpt for a fw of th Skiwi rac tam. Skiing was a lot of work and aftr a short day it was back to th hot tub, Saturday th bus lft for th airport at 4:30 a.m. Both flights wnt smoothly, and w arrivd in Windsor in th daylight. Any trip that gos as smoothly as this on did is, in a larg part, du to th coopration and participation of its mmbrs. W wish to say THANK YOU to our grat trip mmbrs for making this a truly spcial xprinc, MEMBER COMMENTS: If a pictur is worth a thousand words, thn 360,000 words would quat to th amount of photographs I took on this trip to Banff in th Canadian Rockis. I think 99% of thm ar of th bautiful mountains thr. My favorit is of an lk I shot from about 12 ft away (with a camra). That is probably what I will rmmbr most about this trip, Alx Murdoch Th bst scnry! Bright bautiful clar days. Mild tmpraturs. Lots of wild lif. Lots of stuff to do; town activity. Ed Low Banff Th sarch for snow. Rock skiing at its bst. Evn though th snow was thin, thr was still plnty of good powdry bump runs, including th back bowl at Lak Louis. It provd you can ski th rocks.
