2 2 COASTAL CHATTR JANUARY 2017 ACTIVITIS by Dottie Karika On Dec. 5th, JAC members celebrated an early Christmas celebration at the Shell Island Resort. It was a beautiful day, the scenery looking out at the ocean, the decorations were great, the food and dessert delicious and everyone looked wonderful in their dress up clothes. Many thanks to Barbara Sheridan and Linda Taylor, our hostesses, who have arranged the luncheon for the past five years. We had 79 members attend along with many of our newcomers who enjoyed being with their new neighbors. It was a wonderful afternoon! Our annual "Grab Bag Party" was held on Monday, Dec. 12th at the clubhouse. Bottles of wine seemed to be the high point of the evening, along with several other gifts that kept being exchanged. Our thanks to Bea & Ted Acorn, Rita LaCalamita, Mary llen Gaffney and Pat & Gary Struck for taking care of the affair and to all the cookie makers for their delicious desserts plus the with and without punch that went very fast. Our thanks to Jensen's for the poinsettia table decoration that were raffled off at the end of the night. Also a thank you goes to Charlie Brady & Jim Karika for delivering the clothes that were donated by residents for the students in the Topsail schools. Both boxes were full with new items for the kids! The trip to "Mike's Farm" on Wed., Dec. 12th was terrific. The 20 plus residents who went, enjoyed a great show, a delicious meal and the hayride thru the farm for the light show was beautiful. Kudos to Rose Anne Tumm for organizing the outing. Many are looking forward to going again next year, hopefully Rose Anne will get a group together again! We also have to thank Ted Acorn, Charlie Brady, Jim Karika, Bob Rossi and Gary Struck for doing an awesome job decorating the gazebo and the front of the clubhouse. The clubhouse tree and other decorations were taken care of by Priscilla Dunphy, Pat Brady, Mary llen Gaffney, Gladys Joyce, Dottie Karika and Pat Struck. It's so nice coming into the plantation and seeing all the lights and the tree. Driving around the streets seeing all the decorations at the houses gives such a festive air to the community. We thank all of you! There will be a JAC meeting on Jan. 2nd at 6:30 PM. President Rudy Hrubala has an agenda and a lot of new ideas to share with members. Hopefully many will be able to attend even though it's the day after New Year. The "B" Team wil be hosting breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 7th at 8 AM. Bob & crew will be doing the honors this month. Looking forward to starting the new year with a delicious breakfast! Hope you come! Our first dinner of the New Year will be a "Soup Nite" hosted by Bea & Ted Acorn, Dottie & Jim Karika, Rita & Frank La Calamita and Dottie Wanzor. As yet the date hasn't been set but a flyer will be out soon with the date & time. Start looking up your soup recipes, nothing like soup on a cold winter evening! See you there! Well, we have a New Year, a new President, a country divided, a world in chaos and for us we have an oasis in Coastal Plantation. I always feel when I drive into the community I leave the rest of the world behind me and enjoy the peace and quiet of the area. Not that I ignore what's going on in the world but there is very little other than prayer that I can do to change things. njoy 2017 and all your friends and neighbors in Coastal! God Bless, Dottie

3 3 COASTAL CHATTR JAC NOTS Our next General meeting will be held on Monday, January 2nd at 6:30pm. We will have some new business to discuss and your thoughts and input would be welcomed and appreciated as always by the Board. Please mark your calendars to attend our breakfast, prepared by the B Team, on January 7th as our own William Pepe, a WW2 veteran who participated in the D Day invasion, will share his experience with us. We intend to have Bill commence his remarks sometime between 9:30 and 9:45. Lastly on behalf of your Board we hope you enjoyed the Holidays and that the New Year will exceed your expectations. Rudy There will be a presentation at the next JAC meeting on Jan 2, Nancy Warren and Pat Byron have been looking at ways to keep our clubhouse organized and clean. We welcome the input of the JAC members. See you at the meeting. BOWLING It's getting close to Christmas and I was just wondering if Santa is going to deliver any new bowling balls this year? You never know!! One thing I do know is that the group of bowlers we have on Friday morning are fun to be with!! To anyone thinking of giving it a try after not bowling for 10 or 20 years, you will be among friends, having a fun time. Mim Bloch was thrilled to bowl her highest game this year, a 114. Priscilla Dunphy matched her high game of the year with a 134. Bea Acorn's 150 game helped her get her 2nd high series of the year, a 413. Rich Jemmott had a 449 series, his highest this year. Gladys Joyce bowled a 154, her 2nd highest game! Another 2nd high was Pat Struck's 168 game. Ted Acorn's 176 & 177 games gave him his first 500 series this year, a 508. Chuck Mc Knight had a 175 and Beryl Bloch 185 games. Charlie Brady bowled a 178 with a 507 series. This gives you an idea of the wide range of bowlers who compete with other bowlers and mainly with themselves. We also have drama! Dottie & I love to compete with each other. Three weeks ago we had a script right out of the movies. Dottie's first game was a 211 and I had to strike out in the tenth for a 212. Boy, did that feel good. She got the last laugh having a 579 series to my 562! From our Friday morning bowlers, we wish everyone at Jensen's a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a Happy New Year! Jim Karika

Sandy Powell who had surgery at Duke, Rick Marshall is now in Woodbury, Karen is home but having health problems, Pat Brady had a recent problem, Pat Mc Carron is still recuperating and Jens Jensen is in New York taking care of some health problems. We hope they all have a special holiday!

6 6 COASTAL CHATTR MANAGR S MMO As I told you last month the New Year is going to be bringing changes at Coastal Plantation! By this time, you should have received the letter regarding the connection of the Community sewer system to a local sewer system. A meeting is scheduled for January 9 th at 4:00PM in the clubhouse to discuss the changeover. Along with this project comes a new Community Manager; Blair Kelley. He comes to us with over 25 years of experience in community management and Manufactured home building. Blair is originally from the south and has ties to Wilmington, NC, so he knows the area well. He will be starting on January 3 rd! This is good news and will allow me to go back to what I do best and enjoy; the sales side of Coastal Plantation. Now before rumors start, this was my choice to continue on the sales side and relinquish my managerial duties. Those that know me know I like the meeting, greeting and challenge of the sales side, not so much the management side. Don t take that the wrong way, I enjoy you the residents but there are a lot of other items that go into the management side and between the two; I know I am better suited for the sales side in this community! I know you will all like Blair and he is going to be an asset to this community as it moves ahead!!!! I know with residents like you we WILL make this another GRAT year here at Coastal Plantation!!!! Timothy Weaver RMINDR for residents with pets: Please make sure to have your pets on a leash while outside. If you are having guests over that also have pets, please make sure their pets are on a leash while outside and they pick up after them. Thank you for keeping Coastal Plantation clean! For any water issues you are having Please call Pender County Utilities at WIFI password at the Clubhouse is jensens714
