2 2 COASTAL CHATTER JANUARY 2018 ACTIVITIES by Dottie Karika As usual, December is a very busy month in "Coastal Plantations". It began with the "A" Team on Saturday, Dec. 2nd. Of course all the food was delicious and Jim recognized Ed Shaw, a member of his team, who was leaving on Dec. 19th for the long drive on the Oregon Trail. Ed & Joan are returning to Oregon where they came from. He was a great help for the time he volunteered on the team. We wish them good luck! Jim thanked all his guys for their faithfulness every other month! On Monday, Dec. 4th at 12 Noon, we celebrated our annual Christmas luncheon at the Shell Island Resort. The venue was beautifully decorated for Christmas and they even supplied us with a dance floor. Everyone was dressed up in their finery and looked very classy! The service, food and desserts were excellent! Thanks to Chip Vergallito who supplied us with music and our "Coastal Linedancers" entertaining us, the afternoon was very enjoyable. Many thanks to Linda Taylor and Barbara Sheridan for hosting the event. This is their 6th year and we are very grateful for their hard work! Our "Gift Giving, Cookie & Punch" evening was held the following Monday, Dec. 5:30PM. All the pictures are on the board and the cookie table was unbelievable. There wasn't enough room for all of them and they were delicious. Our thanks to Tina Landis for making the little lighted poinsettia's and Manager Bob for supplying the live poinsettia's that were raffled off at the end. It seemed the $10, lottery tickets and the wine were the big exchanges for the evening. Our thanks go to President Rosemary Krug and her committee for lots of fun! Also the boxes for the children at the local schools were filled to overflowing. We have a very generous community and the clothes will be put to great use! The next day, Tues., Dec. 12th, many residents headed to Myrtle Beach to see the Alabama Theater's Christmas Show. Many stayed in Myrtle Beach to shop, dine and enjoy friends and neighbors. The show was wonderful, very lively, with beautiful costumes and talented singers & dancers. 40 Coastal residents attended and had a great time. Once again we thank Jane & Tom Wright for taking care of the arrangements! On the 18th at 6PM, we were treated to music and carolers riding thru the neighborhood. With golf carts decorated for Christmas, leading and ending the parade. A bunch of Coastal residents singing to Christmas music provided by Chip on a trailer pulled by Gary Struck's truck. Residents came out with cookies, candy and candy canes which were enjoyed by all participants! We hoped they enjoyed it as much as those who took part! And here we are with only a few days til Christmas, it is amazing how fast the years go by! We are thankful to live in such a caring community and we have a lot of new residents who are anxious to participate in our many activities! We are looking forward to working with them in the coming year 2018! God bless you all and have a wonderful time at the New Year's Party at the "19 at Olde Point". President Rosemary Krug has made the arrangements, if you wish to go call her at Best wishes for good health, good luck and good friends in the New Year and may 2018 be a special year for all of you! 3 3 COASTAL CHATTER BOWLING The hugs were coming fast and furious the first week in December. Vivian Ricard and Linda Vergallito put on a show of getting strikes. The place was jumping watching them competing with each other as they both wound up with turkeys!! Vivian had a 172 game, her highest this year and Linda had a 165 also high for the year. Chip Vergallito saved face for the men by getting a turkey and edging out his wife with a 166 game. Dot Karika finished out the display for the women with a turkey and a nice 208 game and 499 series. This beat my 205 game with no hugs!! Ted Acorn bowled a 185 & 182 to try and stay with Charlie Brady's 193 and 181. Gary Struck is getting back in the swing of things after his long vacation with a 168 game beating Pete Schnauder's 162 and Pat's 158 game. Keep up the good work, it seems a lot of fun is being had by all!! Sandy Powell is back in the community and happy to be here. Several residents have been fighting colds and Eveline and Cary Le Blanc came off their cruise pretty sick. They also are recovering.

4 4 COASTAL CHATTER WELCOME TO COASTAL PLANTATION Nona Rogers 419 Loblolly Trail Home phone Cell Birthday: October 15 Nona grew up in Wilmington, then moved away, but returned 25 years ago and she & her husband settled in Sneads Ferry. She has 2 children, who reside in Wilmington, 2 grandsons, and 3 stepchildren. She had decided that living alone for the past 5 years, since her husband passed, it was now time for her to look at communities with more neighbors. As she drove into Coastal Plantation and saw the sign "Welcome Home" she knew right then she would enjoy living here. While driving around our community she already felt so welcomed as residents smiled & waved to her. She is still pinching herself on how she lucked out with the beautiful home she purchased and the friendliness of everyone here at Coastal! Nona has volunteered for many years for the Sneads Ferry Community Theater. She worked in props and now works at the Box Office; and, also is a volunteer at New Hanover Regional Hospital. She loves to keep busy and is anxious to become involved in our community activities. Welcome Nona! Pat C

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE Some information for new residents or anyone that does not know, we have some medical equipment available, at no charge to our residents. In the clubhouse there is clipboard hanging on the back wall, on the sunshine bulletin board. It contains the names and phone numbers of people that have items that you can have, or borrow. If you have any items that you would be willing to give or loan please add them to the list. Also make sure if you are only willing to loan the item to mention that. If you have any medical items that you do not want to store please call me at Charlie Brady REMINDER for residents with pets: Please make sure to have your pets on a leash while outside. If you are having guests over that also have pets, please make sure their pets are on a leash while outside and they pick up after them. Please keep your dogs curbside while walking them. Keep them from walking up to the homes. Please respect people s property. Thank you for keeping Coastal Plantation clean!

7 7 COASTAL CHATTER A NOTE FROM THE MANAGER: Happy New Year!! I m looking forward to the upcoming year. Big thank you to all who came out to the clubhouse to meet me, it was nice to get a chance to meet so many of you. It looks like most of the leaves have fallen from the trees and winter is settling in. If you could all try to get your leaves and debris to the road it would be greatly appreciated.
