1 Tuesday, 26 September 2017 April 2016 Presidents Message Hi everyone, and welcome members to the latest edition of a newly launched Chook Pen. The news items published on this platform will be short and sharp and a few copies will be available for the club members who can t turn on a smart phone. If you have any newsworthy stories for consideration, please contact the editor. In-house 2 bowl triples tournament 48 male club bowlers out of a potential 84 players, nominated to play in this in-house tournament last Saturday which carried $1,200 cash prizemoney sponsored by the main club and winners were; 3 rd Brian Dengate, Michael Robb and Ron Gale 2 nd Clinton Smith, Lee Willis and Ken Sinclair 1 st Brett Hughes, Gary Dwyer and Kevin Roustan This day was enjoyed by all but it s disappointing that such a small contingent of members nominated. Your match committee is working tirelessly to maximise the existing greenspace which enhances the club s finances so can I urge members to consider YOUR club s interests first when considering your tournament schedule.

2 Selectors and Match Committee - We have now secured our quota for the formation of Selection & Match Committee for Please join me in thanking, John Farr, Rick Gordon, Ron Gale, Dick Wallace and Brett Hughes for taking on this selfless role. Brett Hughes will chair this committee. Welfare Officer Vacancy - Phil Daniels has stood down for personal reasons so this position is now vacant. If you have some time and able to keep contact between the club and sick members, your volunteer service would be appreciated. Name Badges - The club has engaged a new supplier to print name badges at a cost of $15. If you need a new name badge, please see Rod Gordon with your cash 2018 Men s Pennants Season - Your Match Committee has requested the board agree to change the colour of the existing lime green pants. The board has approved this request in principle and the proposed new colour will be a lightweight plain black pants or shorts. More information will follow once the necessary Bowls NSW approval has been obtained. Zone 10 Presentation Night - See the notice board for information about this upcoming event. We hope to see some of our NBC Sports Club players and teams acknowledged at this prestigious event and have therefore booked 2 tables for up to 20 attendees. Tickets are just $50 a head for a sensational event which includes, 3 course meal, drinks package and entertainment. Let s be there to cheer on our club and players. Kids Backyard Grand Opening - The Kids Backyard opened at 10am last Sunday and all who attended were blown away with the space, entertainment and hospitality offerings the club provided. A wonderful group of loyal club members volunteered many hours of labour to get the area family ready and all the kids asked me to personally salute these club legends! A big thanks to Dick Wallace, Ken Ellis, Phil Daniels, Warren Sharpe, Geoff Whetton, Danny Bugelli, Howard Graby, Ron Gale, Dennis Bail, David Guilfoyle, Ross Mills, Peter Kindleysides, Matthew Phillips and Dilys Kindleysides

3 Mid-Week Pennants Success Congratulations to the boys for taking out the C Grade mid-week pennant final last week at Brush Park. The boys were down 22-2 early on and a team talk in the middle of the rink focussed on making it a match and not letting each other down. The team talk obviously worked with our boys rallying to take the match Congratulations to Lee Willis, Dick Wallace, Steve Blackburn, Warwick Weekley, Steve Thompson and side manager, Geoff Whetton. Juggernaut - Jordon Peisley One of the club s new recruits for 2017 is the young Zone10 Academy member Jordon Peisley. Jordon has been a big part of the clubs grade 1 pennant success and a major strength in our zone academy squad. Recently Jordon was selected to represent NSW in the Combined CHS Championships, coming away with 2 gold and 1 silver medal so well-done Jordan. And to boot, he turned 18 last week so he can now shout a few drinks with his prizemoney so happy birthday Jordan. Greens Management and Maintenance The board has approved a recommendation from GM, Keith Smith to enter into a service contract for ongoing management of the clubs bowling rinks and surrounds. David Phelps, proprietor of Acacia Greens and Landscapes will commence in early

October. David currently manages Wallacia, St Johns Park and Toongabbie clubs and comes well qualified to the task of delivering our greens to the highest possible standard.

The Arthur Groves and Barbara Anderson Greens will undergo a full renovation during David s contract period and the club is hopeful that Billy Harkins will accept an offer by David to take over his apprenticeship indenture and play competition bowls for the club in If You Know This Bowler, Tag Him or Her I'm a number one bowler, and prima donna too, And I won't be told, where to play, by blokes without a clue, I'm simply just the greatest one to ever roll a bowl, And when the pennant teams are picked, I want the starring role Now, the chairman of selectors, he said to me one day, We're gonna play you in the lead like bloody hell I say, Then later on he winked at me and very slyly beckoned, There's been a change of plans he said, we're gonna play you second. I let him know he's got a nerve, and said, "Now look here Bud, If you can't appreciate my skill, I'll find another club". So they hold a special meeting and pick me number three, But I make it pretty plain to them, that's no bloody good to ME. Another conference then takes place and after all the fun, They put me where I should have been, a Skipper Number One. I'm slightly mollified by now and though Skippers get the plums, It's still beneath my dignity...to play with all you BUMS... Who am I?

7 Ladies Take Out North Western Zone Saturday Triples Congratulations to the team of Pat Nichols, Cheryl Thompson, Dilys Kindleysides and Roz Clarke who were the only undefeated team at the recent North- Western Zone Saturday morning Ladies Triples event held at Castle Hill. The competition allows working women the opportunity to play in events on the weekend and is always a popular tournament as it allows a replacement each week, so it means you don t need to play in all five matches.
