CHAPTER DIRECTORS AL & CATHY NIGHSWANDER BOO! Gobble, gobble, gobble Hohoho! It seems to me that those three sounds can be said as quickly as the next two months will come and go. BOO! The Halloween party was great! Thanks to all the wonderful B family that was able to come on that rainy Saturday night to celebrate this holiday. Al s Man Cave was packed with laughter and stories and totally awesome food. It was great to have our grandson, Devin, and the Bland s three grandchildren there! Josie is quite the actor for charades! The charades were fun; we definitely found out that it is difficult to act out some Halloween words like: ninja, skeleton, mummy, and mad scientist. The taffy pull didn t happen. I didn t watch the thermometer and missed the temperature it should have been removed from the heat. Those candy thermometers are very hard to read, and I was distracted; however, Carol Culler informed me that there is a new design with the dial on the top! I m going to put that on my Christmas list! Before the Gobble, gobble, and gobble is our last Chapter B gathering for the year. It is on November 18. Let s remember to help the Richland County Humane Society by bringing in our help of office supplies, newspapers, food, treats, collars, cleaning supplies. They are so grateful for our help. Before and after the Gobble, gobble, gobble, some of our family leaves for warmth and sunshine, so we will send out travel mercies and prayers for good health and plenty of love and laughter. And the Ho ho ho! Chapter B s Christmas party is December 1 ST at the Liederkrantz. Appetizers will begin at 6 P.M. Dinner includes tossed salad Chicken Cordon Bleu, Schnitzel (much like a boneless pork chop), parsley red potatoes, glazed carrots, and desserts. The entertainment for the evening is Bullet, a band that plays 50 s, 60 s, & 70 s music. This band is from Galion and has been together since They play for service clubs and private clubs, and opened for the Charlie Daniels Band at the Renaissance. The cost is $10 a person with the Chapter covering the balance. The officers team hopes that you are able to come. This is going to be a great evening of Christmas joy, laughter, food, dancing with a great family. What a way to start the Christmas season. Ho ho ho! 2

ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS MIKE & CHERYL FINLEY Well another riding season is coming to an end soon, or at least the majority of us living in Ohio. It's time to wash and clean our bikes, change oil and top off fluids and make plans for next year. The Halloween Party at Al & Cathy's house tuned out great, standing room only. The next big event for Chapter B will be our Christmas Party and hopefully will be as successful as the Halloween Party. This will be the first year at the Liederkrantz with Ingrid in the kitchen our dinner should be really good and the entertainment with the Bullit Band. This Christmas Party should be great, don't forget your dancing shoes. Hope to have a good turnout and don't forget the Humane Society Charity. Mike & Cheryl DENNIS LONG MOTOR AWARENESS As of July, if you have not renewed your driver s license, you will have two options. Option one, if you do not fly and have no intentions of flying and using your driver s license as your ID, you have nothing to do but renew your license at your local BMV. One catch, you will not get your new license at your local. All drivers licenses are now being printed in Columbus and your new license will be mailed to you. If you plan to use your license to fly (effective 10/2020) your current driver s license will not work. You will need a Compliant Driver License. There are several pieces of identification you will need. Your birth certificate, social security card (or W-2, 1099 ) ladies possibly your marriage license (name change), passport works and two additional items showing your current address, (like utility bill) They are very specific about the documentation. A form verifying the documentation is double checked by a seconded employee before they proceed with issuing the Compliant License. If you plan to fly and your license renews after 10/2020 go ahead and get a new license. A drawback is if you do get a new license because it renews after 10/2020, your renewal date will not change. 3

ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS JIM & CAROL CULLER Welcome to Ohio weather loss of daylight, clocks turning back, voting and the end of the riding season; even though there were a few motorcycles out on October 29 th.. a little to chilly for us. We are just full of good news. Time to get the Gold Wings ready for the winter; make sure to do a little preparation before storing your motorcycle. The Chapter Staff held a Meeting at Mike & Cheryl Finley s where the calendar of events was viewed for We re sure that everyone would agree, Al and Kathy have done a fantastic job this year as our Directors. The rest of the staff worked very hard to make this a really enjoyable riding season for the whole Chapter. A SPECIAL THANKS go out to Rich Faeth and Susan Kennedy for all their hard work in making sure our trips have been planned and enjoyed. A lot of preparation goes into planning the trips; and, we don t know of anyone who has done a better job than Rich and Susan. We were very proud to have worked with the staff this year and plan on having another great year of riding in We realize we have very special chapter members who work together very closely to ensure everyone enjoys their riding season. We joined the Chapter in 1988 and have always been proud of everyone. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR CHAPTER MEMBERS FOR A JOB WELL DONE THIS YEAR!! We would like to thank Don Schroeder and Deb Parks for all the great articles they submitted as Chapter Couple. They not only submitted an article, but fantastic pictures. THANK YOU DON AND DEB! Christmas Party, at the Liederkrantz, is soon approaching.believe it or not! Where did this year go?? There will be tickets at the November Meeting, to purchase, if you plan to attend Saturday, December 1 st for great food and entertainment. 5 RIDE COORDINATORS RICH FAETH AND SUSAN KENNEDY Happy November Chapter B family, Well, here we are at the end of our riding season for I can t believe how quick time seems to go by. I recall my elders saying the older you get the faster time seems to go. They are right!! Time does have a way of getting away from us! I want to thank all those who came on the Leaf Ride this year. We had a great group and even though the weather wasn t exactly like we wished for, the warm hearts of those we traveled with made it worth the journey! Our travels took us to Dogwood Pass, an obscure western theme town in the back woods of southern Pike County. We were treated to gun fights, with guns blazing, horses galloping, a hanging; damsels in distress and heroes to the rescue. The town included a memorial building with many photos and memorabilia of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans which was a great surprise to see. Finally, we enjoyed some of the best BBQ at Richie s Backyard BBQ. Thank you again for making this leaf ride so memorable Chapter B!! I am in the process of securing 10 rooms at The Inn at Opryland in Nashville for Wing Ding I currently don t have the details; however, as soon as I have them finalized, I ll have Cathy Nighswander send an with the information so you can call and get your rooms. Again, thank you for making this riding year so successful! Remember it s the ride and those you ride with! Susan and Richard 5

DISTRICT EDUCATOR OHIO - GWRRA BILL AND PAT STILES. Ten Simple Steps to Winterize Your Motorcycle 1) Surface Prep: Washing your bike when nobody will see it for a few months anyway can be a drag but giving your bike a thorough cleaning before storage is important; letting bug guts or water spots sit on your paint can corrode the finish permanently. Wash your bike and dry it completely to get all the moisture off the surfaces (an electric leaf blower is a great way to get all the nooks and crannies dry.) Add a coat of wax, which will act as a barrier against moisture and rust. Finally, spray exposed metal surface with WD-40 to displace all moisture (WD stands for water displacement ) and to give them a protective coating against corrosion. 2) Change Oil and Filter: Change your oil and filter. It s better for your lubrication system to have fresh oil sitting in it for several months than to have used, broken down oil in it, not to mention the last thing you ll want to do when riding season begins is change the oil before you can go ride. Using winter weight oil like 5W30 can help it start up easier come spring time as well. If you re going to be storing your bike for a long time (4-6 months or more) you will want to protect your engines internals against moisture by coating them lightly with oil. You may not be able to see it with your naked eye, but the cold winter air is perfect for moisture to gather in your engine and cause rust to form on your pistons and cylinder walls. To do this, remove the spark plugs and put a little squirt (about a tablespoon) of engine oil into the holes, then turn your engine over a few times to coat the cylinder walls by spinning the rear wheel with the bike in gear. Once everything is coated, replace the spark plugs. 3) Lube Moving Parts: Keeping moving parts lubed during the winter will help keep moisture from building up on them and causing any rusting or binding. Any part of your motorcycle that needs to be lubed at any point should be lubed again before storage. Some parts to check are: chain drive, cables, controls, fork surfaces, and any other pivot points. This isn't what we meant by winterizing either (but hey, whatever works!) 6

7 4) Prep Fuel System Gas tanks tend to rust when not in use, and untreated pump gas breaks down and becomes gummy over time. To prevent rusting and make sure your fuel is ready to run after a few months in storage, you ll want to fill your tank completely with fuel treated with a product like Sta-Bil Fuel Stabilizer. On your last ride of the season, stop in at the gas station nearest to where you will be storing your bike and add the proper amount of fuel stabilizer, then top off the tank. A full tank will keep moisture from building up on the tank walls and adding the stabilizer before the short ride home will help mix the gas and stabilizer together and run it through your fuel system before storage. Note: Another method some advocate is to drain the tank and fuel system completely. This is more troublesome to do and requires that you treat the inside of the tank with fogging oil to prevent rusting. This method may be preferred for very long-term storage (6 months or more), but for winter storage, a full tank of treated fuel is easier and completely safe to do for both carbureted and fuel-injected bikes. 5) Safeguard Battery: Batteries tend to self-discharge when sitting over time, especially when they remain hooked up to the bike. The easiest way to combat this is to hook up a battery tender like the Battery Tender Super Smart Junior which uses smart technology to monitor the charge and keep the battery topped off without overcharging. Normally you should pull the battery from the bike for storage, but with a smart tender you can also connect the tender with the battery left in the bike. Before doing this, make sure the electrodes are clean and corrosion free; if necessary, clean them off and give them a light coating of grease. 6) Protect Tires: If your tires are let sit in the same position all winter long, they could develop flat spots. Keeping the tires off of the ground will prevent this, so if you have motorcycle stands, put the bike up on them for storage. If you don't have stands, try to get at least the rear tire off the ground, or you can rotate your tires by rolling your motorcycle slightly every few weeks. If you need to leave your tires down on concrete, put a piece of carpet or plywood under them to keep any moisture from seeping into them. 7) Check Coolant/Anti-freeze: If you ll be storing your bike somewhere that gets below freezing, make sure you have adequate levels of anti-freeze in your coolant system. This is very important; if you run straight water in your coolant system and it freezes, you could come back to a cracked head in the spring!

8) Plug out Pests: Mice and other rodents are notorious for hiding from the cold inside exhaust pipes and making homes out of air filters. If order to avoid any furry surprises when it's time to ride again, plug up your pipes with an exhaust plug like the Bike Master Muffler Plug. You can also simply stuff your air intake and the ends of your exhaust with some plastic bags but use bright colored bags or tie something to them, so you don t forget take them out when you fire up the bike! 9) Keep it covered: With your motorcycle fully prepped for winter, invest in a proper motorcycle cover. A quality motorcycle cover will not only keep dust off the bike but will keep the moisture out, so it doesn t get trapped underneath it and create corrosion or rust. If you're storing it outside, be sure to get a cover with tie downs to prevent it from blowing loose in wind. If you're storing it inside you re in much better shape, but you should still use a cover to prevent dust from building up on it. 10) Theft Protection: If you re storing your bike outside, bear in mind that being parked unattended for months at a time makes it an easy target for theft. In addition to protecting your bike from weather, using a cover will conceal it from view, and securing it with a heavy lock and chain can give you some peace of mind. If you ll be storing your bike anywhere it can be accessed by others, read our guide on How To Keep Your Motorcycle From Getting Stolen, and consider investing in some security measures With your bike fully prepared for a few months of hibernation, you'll find that the winter is the perfect time to get done any maintenance or upgrade projects that you've had on your mind. BikeBandit.com sells all kinds of upgrades that will make you feel like you're hopping on a whole new motorcycle come spring time. You may not be able to ride in the snow, but nothing is stopping you from getting your hands a little greasy and starting one of those projects that you've been thinking about all season! 9 DINNER RIDE COORDINATORS LARRY & KAREN BLAND Riding season I believe is over at least for us. We had a wonderful time on our leaf ride and thank you, Susan Kennedy for setting it up. The leaves seemed like have changed overnight and now is time for us to rake them. Eke! This is by far my favorite job to do. Thank you for Al & Cathy Nighswander for an awesome Halloween Party. The stew was very good with all the other yummy things brought in by others. I think everyone who went will agree it was a good time had by others. There is no more dinner rides scheduled for the year. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. Larry & Karen 2018 COUPLE OF THE YEAR DON SCHROEDER & DEB PARKS Howdy to all the Chapter B members. WOW, where has the month of October gone? The days are getting shorter, the trees are losing leaves, and the weather is getting colder. Yikes, we think winter is on its way. We did get a great leaf ride in down to Dogwood Pass. 10 motorcycles and 5 vehicles were able to attend. A few pictures of the trip... 9

Ron Scheid was able to make friends with some real cuties while visiting with some of the actresses. We spoke with Tim and Beth Kruger and neither of them was familiar with the Kruger that was buried in the local cemetery. As mentioned, some of the group rode in vehicles, here is a couple of them that drove down. The group taking a break on the way back to Mansfield. The weather was not too conducive to riding, so we all headed right back home. All in all, we think everyone enjoyed the weekend leaf trip. Thanks to Susan for arranging the ride. Deb and I were able to attend the Halloween party hosted by Cathy and Al. What a great time, great friends and great food. A few of them dressed for the occasion and some of them were pretty scary. We played several games and several couples challenges. We were 10

glad we were able to attend. Seems that quite a few of the activities this summer we were unable to attend while we were putting on over 25,500 miles on the two bikes. We were able to attend an officers meeting the other night also. We are honored that we have been able to represent Chapter B as Couple of the Year in Looking forward to an exciting and fun filled This Chapter is like a big family and we re blessed to be part of it. Deb and Don NEWSLETTER EDITORS JIM AND CAROL CULLER (THERE WILL BE NO NEWSLETTER IN DECEMBER) Well another riding season coming to close. However, we will still have fun, dinner rides, events, etc. during the winter months. This has been a fun-filled summer for the whole chapter. Ashley Furniture held their annual Veteran s Celebration, in their store on Saturday, November 10 th, and it was a really big success. There was a total participation of over 600 people who attended. This is one of the store s favorite events as it honors all the veterans for the service they provided so that we can enjoy all the freedom our country provides. It was really nice seeing a lot of Chapter B Members there; Larry & Debbie Steinhilber, Frank & Alice Snyder, Ron & Judy Norris, Clarence Walter & Bert Davis-Sporr, Hobo & Faye Mosley, Jerry & Barb Kirkpatrick and Dan & Marsha Kieselhorst. For approximately 3 hours the store honored the veterans by providing a full buffet breakfast, prizes, gift cards and furniture giveaways. It was really great to see that Chapter B Members, Daniel & Marsha Kieselhorst, won a $1,500 gift certificate to purchase whatever they wanted in the store. CONGRATULATIONS! This veteran event will be held again next year in November. We look forward to having more of Chapter B Veterans in attendance. We will make sure that a notice will be placed in the Newsletter prior to the event. See you Soon, Jim & Carol 11

SUNSHINE LADY BARB HOWARD Our prayers and thoughts are with all members and former members who have suffered from health problems. Each day is God given; and should be appreciated as if it is our last. We just heard that Bill Zehner had a heart attack a few weeks back. Thankfully he is doing ok. Bill having a heart attack was a complete surprise to all that know him, including Bill. Rob McDowell also had a heart attack fortunately he was at home when it happened instead of driving his truck. Rob, being a truck driver realizes it could have been a lot worse had he been driving at the time. He is at home now and will have to have another stint sometime before Thanksgiving. Our prayers are with him and Bernice. Happy Birthday and best wishes to all who had, or will have, a birthday or anniversary. SEE YOU SOON, BARB MEMBERSHIP ENHANCEMENT BONNIE LANTZ The weather is working hard on being quite yucky. I cleared my back deck today between the rain showers. I got my apples picked, all two of them. I had my trees pruned last year. There should be lots of nice apples next year. I do have pears though. The big ones are starting to drop that are on the top of the tree. I am collecting them and leaving the not so nice ones for the deer and other critters. I got 2 suet feeders hung in the back yard today also. There is not much more going on here. Bonnie 12
