2 Senior Chapter Director Senior Chapter Director Nancy Shrader Joke of the Month Why didn't George Washington need a bed? Because he would not lie! As I write this we are preparing to go to Wing Ding in Knoxville, Tennessee. This will be Bob's and my 24th Wing Ding. I have to say we have enjoyed every one of them. We attended our first one in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When we attended that one we had not affiliated with the Tampa Chapter yet. After seeing how much fun all the chapters had and all the camaraderie we came home and attended the very next meeting. I have to say the Chapter had been calling us for some time but we just never committed. I think now how much we would have missed if we had not gotten involved with the Chapter. I wish everyone that joined GWRRA would affiliate with a Chapter but that is not always the case. They really miss out on the true meaning of Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge. That is why we always call new folks and invite them to join in. When they do get involved with a chapter they stay members much longer than if they didn't get involved. At our Gatherings we always have the new recruitment brochures and the hangar tag for the handlebars to be placed on the bike. Make sure you get some and have them handy because you never know when someone crosses your path that would like to become a member. Usually when we get them to join us we can keep them because they see how nice and friendly and fun our Chapter is. Despite the heat we have had some good rides and just plain fun. Our grape stomping was as fun as ever and Vanessa can attest to how well we stomped the grapes after she received the bottle of wine we "stomped." Our Kick Tire at Pizza Fire was great. Excellent food and lots of members enjoying each other. Next month I will report on Wing Ding. Remember what happens at Wing Ding will be repeated back to the Chapter as soon as possible!! We have another Around the World ride on Saturday, the 8th. It will be a n American restaurant this time. So join us on the ride to Stumpknockers on the Water. Our next Gathering will be at Pach's Place and it will be our double visitation night. I hope we have lots of visitors so they can have fun with us. 6 Florida Senior District Rider Educator Are you one to watch the news? Do you pay attention to the weather? I am an advocate for watching the weather daily! Pam gets all over me for watching the news every day. It s the same ole thing every day, she says. Well for the most part she is right but the weather changes very quickly! During a 90 minute news broadcast I have seen it change drastically at times. This is something I want to be aware of! Why?? You may ask. Well, I ride a motorcycle, that s why. Simple as that. No, I don t mind getting wet; I just mind getting dead. Was speaking with a Final Wishes Planner just the other day and he says I have at least 16 + years left so I want to make the best of them all. Rick & Pam Northrop Florida is a peninsula and we have wind attacking us from three different sides as well as weather conditions. Often there may be rain and/or storms on one side of the state and beautiful sunshine on the other, and in a very short time the storm has moved in and no more sunshine. If the two weather fronts meet as they cross the state it could cause disastrous effects, especially for a motorcyclist. Keeping a constant vigil on the weather is a must. Again, I say, I m not worried about getting wet. I do worry about LIGHT- NING!! You say, Well, I m on rubber tires just like a car. Too bad, so sad, doesn t matter NO PROTECTION! A car has a METAL BODY surrounding it and true, it is on rubber tires. If it is struck by lightning the metal body generally conducts the electricity to ground, protecting the inhabitants if they are not touching any metal. On a motorcycle, NO PROTECTION! YOU HEAR THUNDER, GET UNDER COVER! I have downloaded the app WeatherBug to my phone and use it religiously. I m not saying it is the best; it is just the one I use. There are a gazillion free weather apps out there that you can download that are very simple to use. Pick one that you like and get familiar with it.
