Our first stop, since the last newsletter was Spring Warm Up, the Indiana Rally. Patti & I were honored, and proud to carry the Michigan flag at the front of the light parade, (right after the US Flag and Indiana Flag) So once again thank you! - Chapter W for selecting us as your couple of the year and providing us with the opportunity to represent Michigan. On the way home from Indiana, we stopped by Cabella s and found some of our Members selling Bike Tickets. Whether on your own, or with Kent & Annette Naugle in front of Cabella s & Kmart. Not only does the proceeds pay for the New Gold Wing and Cash Prizes. It benefits all the children that are helped by the Rainbow Connection. It also helps fund the Michigan District and Chapter W. Thanks Again! On May 22nd Dave & Bev Seeburger represented Chapter W at the 2011 R2 Chili Run (even though the poster says 2010). Memorial Day is always special for Chapter W. It is the time we help everyone remember all of the men & women who are serving or who have served this great country. We decorated our bikes in Red White & continued... Page 1

Blue along with Stars & Stripes. Then took to the streets of Tecumseh to ride in the Memorial Day Parade! It s always a fun time decorating the bikes. As you can see from the photo we had a great turn out. We had fun playing the games with all the members. They had a game for all the Chapter Directors & our District Director. We had to roll a plastic golf ball down a measuring tape into three tiny buckets. Each farther away. Our District Director, Bill Young was the winner! We left with a few door prizes, full bellies & some good memories. It was rather warm and after the large variety of food to sample, it was nap time for Cal DeLine as he started to doze a couple of times I snapped a photo Sorry Cal, I couldn't help myself. We are hoping to see all of you that can make it to the District Rally. The theme is Cowboys! So saddle up and ride to West Branch! The more members we have there, the more FUN we have! But first, it s off to Wing Ding. This will be the first time for Patti & I. To remind everyone, our next gathering is on July 17th with a ride to Chapter C after. 3 Craig & Tanya White This month I would like you to take look at another article by James R. Davis who is a recognized expert witness in the fields of Motorcycle Safety/Dynamics. This article is about: Hydroplaning Avoidance. Please take a few minutes to read this very interesting article. Hydroplaning Avoidance Tire air pressure By: James R. Davis In the article titled Hydroplaning Issues the phenomena was discussed in some detail. It seems to me that a tip is in order that tells how one might avoid experiencing hydroplaning. If you know that you are going to be riding in the rain you might consider adding 3 to 5 psi of pressure in your tires. Note, I am not suggesting that you inflate them in excess of the maximum pressure specified on the tire sidewalls. The reasoning behind this suggestion is simple: Increasing the tire pressure makes its contact patch smaller. In other words, it increases the weight per square inch of the contact patch so that it takes more 'uplift' by water to cause hydroplaning. Just as increasing pressure makes the contact patch smaller, it also tends to spread out the tread grooves which, in turn, makes it easier to slough water away from the contact patch. Perhaps it is obvious, but to hydroplane you need a certain minimum depth of water under your tires and, thus, to the extent that you can reduce that depth you can reduce the odds of hydroplaning. How might you do that? By driving closer to the center of the lane than you normally do. Why? Because normal vehicle traffic actually cuts a trough into the pavement where the wheels ride. Those troughs are essentially where we motorcyclists normally track our rides. Obviously water depths are higher in these troughs. Copyright  by The Master Strategy Group, all rights reserved.
