With the riding season about over. There might be a chance to get a ride or two in. It s about time to put the bike away and be thankful for all the good times we had this riding season. It s all a blurred memory right now but I do recall many great times with our Chapter W extended family as well as many other GWRRA members from Michigan and beyond. Our most recent adventure was the Region D Convention / Rally which was the last for Directors Roger & Penny Hurley. Starting in January Lee & Kay Tieche from Indiana will be the new Region D Directors. Roger had some fun with the Director s Challenge this year - when he froze a pair of underwear for each of the District Directors and they had to race each other to thaw them out and put them on. Chapter W came back with some plaques for Top Gun and Team Challenge where Don Schmidlin and I teamed up as Team Titanium and took 2nd place! Great FUN! The theme was a tribute to our armed forces. Roger & Penny did a great job of honoring all the branches of military, with a tribute presented by Region D Trainer - Dale Hudson. Also at opening ceremony, our new Region D Couple of the Year was announced! Our 2013 Michigan Couple of the Year, Bill & Linda Diffin did a great job of representing Michigan. But the new Region D COY was selected from the state of Ohio! Rudy & Linda Copeland! I m sure some of you will recognize them in the picture. Linda is a member of the Purple Peddlers and we have seen them both at every rally since we joined GWRRA! It won t be long till the snow flies so if there is a nice day in the near future - be sure to get in that last ride of the season! In December we will have our Chapter W Christmas Party and will announce our 2014 Chapter W Couple of the year! Don t miss it - be at the November Gathering and get yourself on the list to participate. We will again have Mr. Innocent our DJ to play the tunes and catering by Stone s Café & Catering which did our meal last year. Reminder that our November gathering will be a pot luck so bring a dish to pass. We will eat at 1pm and have the meeting after. It has been a very good riding year and as we get ready to put our bikes away for the winter, remember there still may be a good day to ride yet. With winter closing in and we have not yet had a killing frost, we can look forward to what is known as Indian Summer. That last week of really nice weather before the snow flies. I am not sure I am ready to put my bike away just yet so I am looking forward to just maybe one more ride. If you have put your bike away for the winter, I hope you took very good care in putting it away. Ours will be stored in a very warm space but are a little spoiled like everything else in our home. Dog's included. I will be looking forward to seeing all of you at a dinner ride or at the Gathering in November. Have a great rest of the riding season and be safe. 3 Craig & Tanya White Store Your Bike Right This Winter For many motorcyclists, the arrival of winter means nothing more than layering-up before a ride. But ice, snow and cold weather often force those who live in the northern reaches to park their bikes until spring. Unfortunately, many riders discover later that their trusted mounts weren't too happy about being abandoned over the winter months. Dead batteries, gummed-up carbs, and internal corrosion can all plague improperly stored bikes. If you know you re not going to ride your motorcycle for more than a month, you can help it get through the frigid weather by taking a few precautionary steps. If at all possible, store the bike inside a garage. It s amazing how much damage can be done by exposure to the elements, even in a few months. But before you put it away, take a little time to check the following: GAS Top off the tank and add the recommended amount of a fuel stabilizer such as Sta-Bil. This additive will keep your gas from breaking down and leaving a gunky brown varnish on your carb s parts. Then start the engine and run it for several minutes to make sure you get the treated gas into the carbs. OIL Oil starts out golden and clean, and winds up black and dirty. This is bad. The contaminants in the oil can be corrosive, and you don t want your engine parts sitting in a corrosive bath all winter. So do yourself a favor and change your oil just before the bike goes into storage. COOLANT Since most motorcycles don t get a lot of use in sub-freezing temperatures, many riders overlook the importance of checking their coolant for protection against winter freeze-up. Use one of those floating-ball testers to make sure your coolant will resist freezing in the temperatures you experience. If you need to add any, make sure you use the type of coolant recommended by your manufacturer. BATTERY Some modern motorcycles can put a slight drain on a battery to run a clock, maintain radio presets or operate an alarm system. If you re in this situation, make sure you have a charger system in place to keep your battery alive. Otherwise, at least make sure it starts the winter with a full charge, and give it a recharge every month or so. Submitted by Craig White, Chapter W Educator Page 3

4 Fun Fairy Report Fun Fairy Here! So riding season is about over, but that does not mean you can t have FUN. Chapter E has Waldo and Waldo would love to come home, lets ride to Waterford and get him back he may want to attend our Christmas Party. Our Christmas Party will be December 14 th. At the UAW 6.00p.m. Stones Café will be catering and Mr. Innocent will be playing. The Region and District Plaques are at Chapter R in Charlotte. I think we should go get the Plaques too. At the Region D Rally they have a drawing for $100.00, if you had the Region D Plaque that year you have a chance of getting the $ Start thinking about attending the Wingless Weekend the end of February, It will be a great time.
