From the Opening Ceremony to the ride home on Sunday it was nonstop FUN. My (Ken s) fun started right after opening ceremony with the Amazing Team Challenge. Along with Cal DeLine and Mark Szymanski our team of Wild Hogs took 2 nd place! And yes the cat is out of the bag there were only two teams But it was great fun as usual. It was also great to have our friends of Chapter W set up their campers all in a row. We had birthday cake to celebrate Bob Wetherell s 30 th birthday! On Saturday morning Cal & I did Top Gun. I didn t do my best - by a long shot, but it was good enough for a 1 st in Experienced since I was the only 1800 in my Class Cal DeLine did a great job with the 1500 Expert Class and took 2 nd place! Cal & Beth also did a wonderful job of representing Chapter W at closing ceremony as our 2012 Couple of the Year! Closing ceremony also included a Rap Song invitation to Wing Ding 35 Ridin The Ridge in Greenville, SC by our new Director of GWRRA Jere Goodman. If you missed it you ll have to see the video. There were hugs & well deserved recognition given to the District Officers that were stepping down. Our new District Educators Bruce & Melissa Thayer were installed. And our own Ed & Vicki Philo were installed as the new District Trainers. The bike was raffled off and the donation was presented to Rainbow Connection. I was busy taking pictures & some videos that will soon be shared on the internet. Thanks to Candace Dressler from Chapter D2, Sandra Wentz from J2, and John Drozdowski from Chapter C. They have all shared their pictures with me as well. There will be a link on the District website as soon as I get them all organized. After Closing Ceremony we finished with the light parade and light show just before a few rain drops and a whole lot of wind. Patti & I spent the evening of August 10 th with our Maple City Wings Relay For Life Team! Thanks to Fred Probst, we had a great tent to stay out of the wind & sometimes rain. Again our relay baton was selected as a tie for 1 st place! Thanks to all who participated & more involvement would be great next year. You all know someone who has battled cancer so please join in the fight. On August 11 th we rode in the Ride For Hope a benefit for the Hope Community Center. We were joined by Gary Griewahn not to mention Larry & Becky Liedel who were kind of helping run the thing. It was also good to see Bill & Becky Bismack although they were not riding due to bike trouble. We had a great ride in spite of the weather. For me It s kind of fun to observe other riders who choose to NOT dress for the weather Anyway it was a fun & safe ride for all who attended. It s now time to shift gears and start thinking about our TOY RUN! It s coming real fast Our Toy Run Coordinators (Scott & Sherrie Griewahn) are having a meeting at their house on Tuesday August 21 st at 7pm. There are many jobs that need to be done by You, the Members of Chapter W! I hope to see you all there! Labor Day Weekend is the Time! Harrison Lake State Park in Fayette, Ohio is the Place! It s the Chapter W Campout & Fish Fry! Campsites are sold out but there is probably room for you to pitch a tent beside our bike camper. It will be a FUN filled weekend. We are going to have outdoor movies at the campfire and some kind of possible day rides. Saturday night at 6 is our Fish Fry. But we have the pavilion all day long on Saturday the 1 st. So come on down and camp or enjoy the day with us Friday Saturday or Sunday! There is a parade in Hudson to kickoff the Bean Creek Festival. We have been invited to ride in the parade. The parade is the morning before the Toy Run on September 8 th There will be a phone tree to give you details as far as the time and place we will meet. So expect a phone call After the Toy Run is the Region D Rally in Celina, Ohio September th It s right down US I would like to know if anyone from Chapter W is interested in some more Group Camping? Please contact me if you are so we can plan a Group Ride. Our next gathering will be a short meeting after the Toy Run. So between now and then I would like any & all feedback on the room we used at the Hope Center. Craig, Tanya, Ken and Patti attended the Masters Breakfast. Cal, Beth, Craig, Tanya, Don, Benda, Ken and Patti rode in the light parade. Beth and Patti took a seminar from Vicki called Solving Problems We all celebrated Bob Wetherell s Birthday on Friday. We hope to see more at the Rally next year. Chapter W Camp-Out &Fish Fry out is August 31 st to the 3 rd of Sept. Fish Fry will be on Saturday 6 pm Bring a dish to pass, we are providing the Fish for the Fish fry. If your not camping come and spend the day with us Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Movie night every night weather permitting. Come enjoy fun with your Chapter W family. Showing up at he monthly gathering or meeting and buying a 50/50 ticket is all it takes to cover the cost of your newsletter. It would be GREAT to see all of you there more often. Also, color printing costs the chapter much more than B&W. So the mailed newsletters are now printed in Black & White. If you have internet access and signup for ed newsletters you not only save the chapter postage, but the printing costs as well! When you view the newsletter online, it is in FULL COLOR and you can print it in color if you choose. Contact Ken Kintner to be added to the list. 3 Craig & Tanya White Cruise Control NEVER if the road is wet! By: James R. Davis You may have cruise control on your bike and you may think it's God's gift when you are out on a long ride and your right hand begins to cramp. But you should pay attention to this bit of advice: NEVER use cruise control if the road is wet! If your bike's speed sensor obtains its information from the front wheel and the ground is slippery, your engine can begin to race aggressively as that control tries to increase your speed. That, of course, spins the rear tire. You have lost control! And if that's not bad enough, once you pass beyond that wet spot and regain traction with your rear tire you can then be literally thrown off your bike, at least accelerated big time, when it does so.
