3 President's Message September 2018 To anyone with any sense of the seasons, fall is definitely in the air. This past summer brought us mostly pleasant, and drier than normal, days. Many of us were able to log many enjoyable miles on our cars, taking part in tours and events hosted by our club, as well as others. With the fall season comes the annual appointment of Club Officers and Chairpersons. During my three year tenure as your President, I was fortunate to have the same Officers, with the exception of a Vice President, and most of the Chairpersons. I will not be in the running again, desiring to turn the Presidency over to another avid Model T er to be a positive force for the future. I can t thank everyone enough who served with me during these past three years. With the fall season approaching, there s only one event left on the agenda. That would be a Leaf Peeper Tour, hosted by Steve and Linda Schmidt. The tour last October turned-out to be an enjoyable success for members as well as members of other clubs who joined us. Hopefully, there will be more members this year who can join in, even if in a modern car. The fellowship and camaraderie is the same regardless of what you re driving. At the September meeting there was some discussion on how to increase participation in club activities. Some of this year s events were, frankly, not well attended. It was noted that there are several members who are still working on getting their cars running and safely drivable. It was reiterated that those who need help should ask for it as there are several members willing to assist. I hope everyone is enjoying the September weather and will join us at the October meeting. Hopefully, we ll have a whole group of volunteers for next year s positions. Happy T'ing, Jerry Wrolstad
4 PSC Meeting Minutes September 8, 2018 President Jerry Wrolstad called the meeting to order with 17 members in attendance; Mike McGinnis and Terry Warren accepted the motion to accept the last minutes as published in the June T Oilers; The first matter of importance was to award Walt Berdan with the Model T Ford Club of America 2017 First Place Newsletter Award. The award was accepted by Morris and Sandy James at the Richmond, Indiana National meeting on Walt s behalf; Treasurer s Report: Per Ann Musolf, the club is solvent and able to pay all bills while maintaining a positive bank balance; Dick Borton touched briefly on some upcoming events, notably the Leaf Peeper Tour to be held sometime in October depending on the weather and the annual foliage color change; Sunshine: Patty Wrolstad sent a card of condolence to the family of Chris Lambert, who passed away recently; Insurance: Donna McGinnis reported that all is well on that front; Old Business: There was some discussion regarding turn-out for club functions and how to improve the numbers. It was noted that many members do not have functioning cars and that those who need or desire it should ask other members for help. New Business: The annual appointment of Officers and Chairpersons is quickly approaching. Anyone wishing to volunteer for one of these coveted positions should be ready to state their willingness at the October meeting. Safety: There was some discussion on the need to ensure the brakes work on your Model T s and to check the anti-freeze level in our cars with the impending cold season upon us. Mike McGinnis reminded all of the importance (and law) of crossing the safety chains on trailers; Dick Gourley won the $10 breakfast drawing; Raffle winners: Chris Frosig, Mike McGinnis, Dick Borton, Pam Warren, Bev Borton, Terry Warren, Jerry Wrolstad and Dave Ellis; There was some discussion about a 6V voltage multiplier that allows one to use a 12V GPS or whatever in a 6V car. They are sold by VetCo for about $8. The motion for adjournment was seconded by Walt and Terry. Submitted by Patty Wrolstad
5 Mountain Loop Tour A great day but sad turnout for the tour this year. Jerry & Patty with their coupe, Ray with the green speedster, Dick & Bev with the 26 coupe and Walt with speedster had the only T s. Mike and Donna came out and drove the trouble van which we needed when Dick lost a pinion gear. Our lunch stop was partially occupied by Search and Rescue folks. It was interesting to watch their helicopter take off and chat with some of the search and support staff. Of course the food and company were good too. The gravel wasn t bad this year and traffic was no problem on any of the route. The stop at the park in Darrington found a bunch of kids (and their parents) who loved the cars and enjoyed sitting in them. Naturally the desert/beer stop at the horse training facility near OSO was welcomed as we were wrapping up the tour. Thanks are due again to Dick & Bev for hosting our tours and providing the coffee and goodies. The MTFCA honored Walt with a first place recognition for the T Oilers newsletter.
6 Larry Garner Memorial Car Show We had a great turn out. 10 cars! The sprinkles of rain didn t scare anyone away either! Next year Sunrise View wants Mike Harris to bring Rusty to BBQ. Rusty got a lot of attention! Mike has a thing about Cadillacs This one won Best of Show Tom McCutchen s pretty 47 Mercury won Resident s Choice Mike Harris brought Rusty up from the Carbon Canyon club. Maybe next year he can fire it up and do some cook n.

8 A Thousand Ways To Please A Husband With Bettina's Best Recipes by Louise Bennett Weaver & Helen Cowles LeCron (STORIES AND RECIPES FROM 1917) Chapter 8 Celebrating the Fourth "Now, boys, run and play while Alice and I set the picnic table!" said Bettina to Bob and Mr. Harrison. "See if the fish are biting! Cultivate your patience as well as your appetites and we'll surprise you soon!" "Bettina, let me help you unpack. Everything looks so dainty and interesting!" said Alice, as Bob and Mr. Harrison strolled off toward the river. "You ought to have allowed me to bring something, although I'll admit that I do enjoy being surprised. You were a dear to bring me with you!" "I?" said Bettina. "Of course I'm glad to have you here--no one is better fun--but I wish you had heard something that Bob told me. He and Harry Harrison were planning to go fishing today, all by themselves, until Harry suggested that Bob might like to bring me along. And then he added as an afterthought, that as three is a crowd, Miss Alice might be induced to come too. (Why is it that 'Miss Alice' or 'Miss Kate' or 'Miss May' always sounds so like a confirmed bachelor?) Bob chuckled when he told me how careless and offhand Harry tried to be!" "Betty, how pretty those pasteboard plates are with flag-seals pasted on them!" "I saw some ready-made Fourth of July plates, but it was more economical to make my own. And how do like the red, white and blue paper napkins and lunch cloth? 'Lunch paper,' I ought to say, I suppose. Alice you arrange the fruit in the center in this basket, with some napkins around it, and with these little flags sticking out of it n every direction. but first, my dear, please tell me why you changed the subject when I was speaking of Mr. Harrison?" "Those devilled eggs wrapped in frilled tissue-paper look just like torpedoes." "Alice, Alice, I learned something new about you today. Harry said that society girls got on his nerves, but that 'Miss Alice' seemed sensible enough!" "Goodness, Betty, he has disagreed with every single thing I've said, so far! If he is being pleasant behind my back, I don't see why he should be so disapproving in his manner to me! But if he is really beginning to think me sensible, let us by all means encourage him! Hide my frivolous new hat in the lunchbasket, and give me something useful to be doing. Can't I appear to be mixing the salad?... Honestly, Betty, I do get tired of society as a single interest. But what else is there for me to do? Go into settlement work? I'd be a joke at that! Learn to design jewelry? Take singing lessons?" "Try the good old profession of matrimony. Why are you so fickle, Alice, my dear?" "I'm not; it's the men! Every sensible one I meet is---well, disagreeable to me!" "Meaning Harry Harrison? He appears to be taking quite an interest, at least!" "That is merely his reforming instance coming to the surface. But--is everything ready now? We'll sing a few bars of the Star spangled Banner, and I'm sure the men will come immediately!"
