1 Messenger Winter 12 RECREATION GUIDE Registration & Contact Information 12 How to Register Program Registrations All program registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis or until leagues are full in the following ways: 1. Credits or refunds requested by the participant must be received at least three working days prior to the program start and are subject to a $15 processing fee. We will offer three trips throughout the winter season. Each trip will depart from the Lone Tree Recreation Center, Ridgegate Circle in Lone Tree at 8:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 5:15 p.m. This program is open to all ages. People age 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Trip dates: February 20, March 2 and March 26 Available trip options: Bussing only - $30/trip Bussing and lift ticket - $50/trip Bussing, lift ticket and two-hour group lesson - $70/trip *Lessons will only be offered on March 2. Discounted daily rentals are available at select Breeze Ski & Snowboard locations. Volunteer to chaperone and you ll receive a free bus ride and lift ticket. 2 RECREATION Youth Sports Youth Inline Hockey An inline hockey league for youth ages seven to 18. This is an eight-week league with one weekday practice and Saturday games held in Highlands Ranch and surrounding metro area rinks. Fee: Resident: $60 Non-resident: $69 Registration Deadline: Sunday, March 4. Season begins Monday, March 12. Boys Youth Lacrosse Leagues Advanced, intermediate and beginner players are welcome for all age levels. Teams play in the Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association (CYLA) and travel for away games against other CYLA teams. All teams are scheduled for a minimum of eight games. Required equipment: Lacrosse helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, stick, and a mouth guard. Rib pads and throat protectors are optional but recommended. All players must have a current year US Lacrosse membership prior to practicing. Fee: Resident: $25 Non-resident: $29 Registration Deadline: Friday, March 16 Activity # A Saturday, March 17 9 a.m p.m. Shea Stadium Boys Lacrosse - Spring Preseason Clinic Ages 6-14 Whether you are new or an experienced player, this clinic will be a great opportunity. All participants will need to have equipment including shoulder pads, helmet, gloves, arm pads and a stick. Fee: Resident: $50 Non-resident: $58 Registration deadline: Friday, March 2 Activity # A Saturday, March p.m. Stone Mountain Elementary Spring Introductory Lacrosse Program Ages 6-14 There s no better way to learn the game and proper use of a lacrosse stick than an introductory lacrosse clinic for new players. This is a four-week introductory program. Lacrosse sticks will be provided. 3 Messenger Winter 12 RECREATION GUIDE Youth Sports Youth T-ball, Baseball & Girls Fastpitch Softball Summer Ages 4 16 (Age as of July 31, 2012) The Metro District s t-ball, baseball and softball programs are for recreation level play with a focus on learning skills, game fundamentals, rules, making friends, and having fun. Wait lists will apply once leagues are full or after the registration deadline. Late Fees A $15 late fee will apply after the registration deadline on Sunday, April 15. Team rosters and player registrations will be accepted Saturday, February 11 through Sunday, April 1. Coaches must submit a team roster form to the Metro District office prior to players registering for their specific team. Individual registrations will be accepted Saturday, February 11 through Sunday, April 15. Individual registration does not guarantee placement with friends. We encourage players to coordinate with neighbors or schoolmates and submit a team roster to ensure playing with friends. Note: Teams conducting tryouts or teams playing in two or more tournaments during the summer season will be disqualified from playing in the Metro District s leagues. Lessons will focus on safety, proper equipment, and entry level tricks such as ollies, grinds, and how to drop-in. Participants must be able to ride and balance on a skateboard. Lessons will be held at the Redstone Skate Park. Helmets are required. Youth Rugby League Ages 5-17 Leagues are offered in cooperation with Ranch Rugby and teams play as a part of the Touch/Tackle Rugby Youth (TRY) summer rugby program. Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday, May 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This is a six-game season with Saturday games. The season ends June 30 with playoffs and a championship game. The league fee includes a jersey, socks, ball, shorts and field use. Cleats are recommended, however, they must be soccer or rugby cleats with no front spike. Please visit for more information. For the first time ever the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and in turn, USTA Colorado, have formally adopted new rule changes for all 10 and under players. 10 and Under Tennis helps kids get in the game and stay in the game. Courts at Lebsack Tennis Center have all been adopted to accommodate 10 and under programs. At last, children s tennis that s just their size. All players who would like to participate in these leagues must have a current USTA membership card and a National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) rating. Payment may be made by cash or checks made payable to HRCA. 1. registrations will be accepted. Registration forms are available online at Classes requiring waivers must be filled out in person prior to the start of the first class. 2. Activity # A Saturday, April 28 7:30-9:30 a.m. High Line Canal Trailhead Parking Lot - 1/4 mile west of Santa Fe Dr. on Carder Ct. If you are registering as a family, please use activity # B Maps and Compass Treasure Hunt Ages 8-12 Lewis and Clark were important explorers that helped map the United States. Learn how to read a map, orient yourself, and find various sites using a map and compass just like these famous explorers. Find hidden treasures on an exciting scavenger hunt in the open space. All participants will get to keep their found treasures as well as a compass! An accompanying adult is required to come along, partner with the child and learn. The Metro District founded the Healthy Steps program to get you on the trail to a more active lifestyle. Register now and you will receive a pedometer, log book, walking suggestions, and a Highlands Ranch Outdoors Map & Guide that shows all of the great trails and parks where you can log your steps. You ll also be able to connect with other walkers through our optional walking partner list, posted on our website. Fee: Resident: $10 Non-resident: $12 Activity # A Trash for Treasures Trash for Treasures offers the opportunity for groups and organizations to help keep our special places clean. During this onehour event, a Metro District Park Ranger will present a brief talk about environmental stewardship, the reason trash is harmful to our natural areas, wildlife living in the area and participant safety. Trash bags and disposable gloves will be provided. After the clean-up, Metro District staff will provide refreshments and a small treasure to all participants younger than 10 years old. A prize will also be available to the participant making the best effort during the clean-up. This program may be scheduled Tuesday through Saturday. Your group can choose the day and open space area to clean. A minimum of two weeks is required to schedule your group.
