Bennett To The Belconnen Faithful, For the fourth week in a row we welcomed our opponent to The Nest. A lovely day was produced and we were ready to take on Gungahlin to try and keep our early winning streak going. For the third time in 4 weeks we were slow out of the blocks and The Jets controlled the opening 10 minutes of the game before we clicked into gear taking a 34 point lead into quarter time. The trend of starting slow is now of slight concern and this week we will focus on ensuring that doesn t happen again. Our preparation for each game is professional and we never get ahead of ourselves so I can only put this down to our players taking time to settle into performing the basic behaviours we put into place to deal with the helter skelter nature of a game. Let s see how we go this weekend. Over the next two quarters we performed too expectation and our ball movement was a real highlight. The way we were able to give back to a player who had time before taking the game on through the middle was very pleasing and must be consistent throughout the season. Our good work in these quarters was reflected on the scoreboard with 19 goals to nil being the score line in this time. The Jets refused to lie down all day and they were able to provide resistance and kick another goal of their own in the last quarter which reflects well on their on field culture. We must remember that while we have dropped down from the NEAFL, Gungahlin have come up from 3 rd division, so I take my hat off to them for attempting to make the leap in standard and wish them all the best. With the final score being 197 to 20 this take our total winning margin to 416 over the last 3 week period. Quite incredible. A special mention to Sandy Maskell-Knight, Brad Posch and James Simpson who all debuted for the footy club on the weekend. Sandy s 4 first half goals were a big highlight. After 2 weeks where James Bennett was not quite at his lofty best he returned to provide the output we have become used to and JB was clearly our best on ground for the day. His ability to deal with a tag is a testament to how competitive and driven James is. Chris York somehow upped the anti again kicking 12 goals, taking his season tally to 34. I d like to mention that Yorky did not have a possession at quarter time so for him to kick 12 goals under those circumstances is even more remarkable and shows a great deal of maturity for him to be able to overcome such a slow start to contribute so heavily. Ryan Turnbull again broke lines for us and was able to run and carry even more than in previous weeks to get 3 rd best and Isaac Taylor won his 3 rd award in a row to come in at

2 fourth best. Rounding out the awards was Jacob Taylor who kicked 4 goals and was busy all day in what I m sure will be a turning point for JT s season. This week we take on the Queanbeyan Tigers in our first away match of the season. Queanbeyan have the class and professionalism to really put it to us so this week we are pushing to be the best Belconnen team so far in We welcome the challenge and look forward to testing ourselves again this weekend. Turnbull For the 4th time in season 2015 the Belconnen Magpies were at 'The Nest' against an unknown Gungahlin Jets side. Coming off a good win the previous week against Ainslie, the Magpies were determined to carry the good form in to the round 4 game. The 1st quarter was as expected with the youthful Belconnen side hitting the scoreboard early. The Gungahlin side tried their best to keep up with the slick Magpies unit but it posed a major problem for them with Belconnen kicking 6.9 in the first quarter and kept the Jets scoreless. The 2nd quarter was much the same as the 1st. Belconnen came out dominating all over the ground. The lowly jets were no match for the slick movement and pace of the Magpies. The theme for the day was to not let the Gungahlin side score a point and that was achieved for the first half. Belconnen, however, kept piling on the goals ending the quarter kicking 10.4 to go into the main break 16 goals in front. The second half went the same way as the first half with the only difference being the scoreboard. The continuous pressure and slick ball movement didn't allow a poorly performing Jets side into the game at any point. The Magpies side banged in 25 goals for the 2nd half and kept the Jets side scoreless. It is a major feat to keep a side scoreless in a game, but this was done by following all the team basics and sticking to the structures set out. There were many goal kickers and it was extremely hard to pick the best 6 for the game. Well done lads. Thanks Tom Fisher

6 Rising Stars Match Report Round BMFC vs. Marist BMFC Marist Best Players: S. Bridgen, E. Jordan, A. Ledson, T. Delaney, D. Evans, J. Kenna Goal Kickers: D. Evans, J. Fitzpatrick, T. Delaney, J. Kenna Once again this season we came up against very strong competition with an undermanned side. Injuries so far this season have been a curse for the Rising Star s side, with some quality player s forced to miss due to injury. The under 17 and under 15 players who played up can all hold their heads high. They battled hard throughout the day against some very stiff competition. The side needs to make sure they get to training to really practice the basics and get these small things right so we can implement them this weekend against Queanbeyan. This weekend we come up against Queanbeyan, and we will be looking to implement what we have been working on at training and be really competitive and hard at the ball. See you all there. 8 Division 3 Match Report Round BMFC vs. ADFA/RMC BMFC ADFA/RMC Best Players: G. Kay, S. Reaper, L. Musgrave, D. Pawle, A. Hill, B. Power Goal Kickers: B. Power 2, J. Michelle, J. Cormick The UC Magpies 3rd grade side took on ADFA this week. After a couple of hard weeks the last 2 weeks we were keen to put up a good show this week and stay in touch with the top 4. Our boys were switched on right from the start, their defensive pressure and want for the football was outstanding. We went into quarter time only 8 points down. The second quarter was more of the same with our guys diving in at every footy that was there to be won and stopping ADFA's advances forward. 8 smothers in the first half of the game was exceptional. ADFA kicked 1.3 in this quarter to extend their lead out to 17 points at half time. We all ran out of the sheds at halftime with a real belief that we had matched it with ADFA and that now we could take control of the game and turn the scoreboard around. Unfortunately the reverse happened and we were kept scoreless in this quarter again and ADFA piled on 5 goals to take a commanding 49 point lead into 3/4 time. Our boys never gave up or dropped their heads though and gave 100% all game. Unfortunately we ended up losing by 60 points but there were definitely more positives than negatives to take out of this week s game. 10 Division 4 Match Report Round BMFC vs. ADFA/RMC BMFC ADFA/RMC Best Players: R. Markham, A. Knight, P. Gerrard, M. Halley, B. Bloye, E. Parkin Goal Kickers: G. Horsburgh, A. O' Sullivan Another great day for footy, conditions couldn't be more perfect. We came up against a much fitter, stronger ADFA side that was very different to the side we beat in Round 2. Like previous weeks we had a slow start, letting ADFA get the jump on us with a 4 goal to 1 first quarter. Quarter time the job was given for Brendo to shut down their dominant forward who was running everyone we put on him ragged. He took this on with great enthusiasm & went about slowing him down & eventually kept the guy to next to nothing for the rest of the game. Halftime we went in the sheds 30 points down but there was still the belief we could turn this around. Tom the Pom was given the job after halftime of being a pest & tag a bloke who was running off their half back line, getting way too many touches. Pom did a great job & you could see the frustration mounting with this bloke giving away plenty of stupid free kicks. Unfortunately others for ADFA stepped up & completely dominated us for the rest of the game. It doesn't help when you have no bench left with a quarter to go & then end up finishing the game with only 17 on the field. ADFA running out winners by 113 points Knighty was once again proving why he's the early B&F favourite with another dominant performance off the half back line. A few others from our side should take note of the hardness & intensity he brings to every game. Other standouts on a hard day were Brendo, Eric, Pom, Mitch & Rory who can all hold their heads up high. This week s game will not get any easier when we come up against the top of the table Hughes. Get around training, work on the basics & we can turn this season around. Cheers Junior

12 Women s Match Report Round BMFC vs. Tuggeranong BMFC Tuggeranong Best Players: E. Hampton, K. McGinty, A. Patterson, E. Sutcliffe, C. Cuskelly, J. Smith Goal Kickers: CONGRATULATIONS to Pattio who finally played her 50 th game for the BMFC Women s team. Pattio is a product of our Youth Girls team (back when Ali White was Youth Girls Coach) and is one of those players that does everything asked of her without arguing and without hassle. She was our rock solid Full Back for a several years but in recent times she been invaluable across the half-back flank and even filling-in along the wing from time-to-time. This is a great mile stone for Pattio as she has dealt with some time on the side lines with injuries and as other crazies do, Pattio often booked her yearly breaks during the footy season. Congrats mate, it has been a pleasure playing alongside you over the years and you have been a pleasure to coach. #loveyourwork Soooo on the weekend we didn t just lose but we copped a bit of a lesson in footy from last year s premiers Tuggeranong. They were tenacious, disciplined and all over us with pressure like we hadn t experienced so far this season. Hampo was in the thick of the action again in a BMFC best on ground performance and the only one of us that Tuggeranong really had no answers for on the weekend. Her fast running into space and reliable hands are core to us moving the ball around the ground. The defensive unit did exceptionally well to contain Tuggeranong to only 66 point as they were constantly moving the ball inside their forward 50 and under pressure for almost the entire length of the game. Whilst I was impressed with the defence as a whole, Philly was fantastic all game giving her opponent no room and despite the pressure she held strong all game.
