Friday 16 th November 2018 Barfield News Website: The secret is to believe in your dreams; in your potential that you can be like your star, keep searching, keep believing and don t lose faith in yourself. Neymar There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea Henry James

Join Us For Wonderful Wednesdays On Wednesday afternoon, I was delighted to be able to get out and watch an excellent set of matches in which our three Under 11 football teams played Greenfield School. The C team demonstrated our strength in depth and ran out deservedly comfortable winners; however, the other two matches were very much closer. The B team trailed by a single goal at half-time, but fought back to take the lead, and then successfully held the opposition at bay, while the A team was involved in a titanic struggle, which could have gone either way. It was settled, in our favour, five minutes from time to give Barfield a clean sweep of victories. I was proud to watch our boys play and to witness their passion, dedication and team spirit. In a moment when he was not delighting us with his skills, nor hurling himself to the floor in an attempt to win a free kick, the Brazilian footballer, Neymar, once said."the secret is to believe in your dreams; in your potential that you can be like your star, keep searching, keep believing and don t lose faith in yourself ". Another delight on Wednesday afternoon - and on every Wednesday matchday afternoon - is the "Match Tea". Mrs Hughes provides such a wonderful homemade spread for our visiting guests and parents, and I feel it is just one way in which we reflect the family spirit and warmth which characterises Barfield. Parents are most welcome to come and support their children in school matches, and then to enjoy the best match tea around. As I am in the mood for quotes, then novelist Henry James' words would seem appropriate - "There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea." Match tea may not last an hour, but I trust you get the message! James Reid

Years 6 & 7 Meet Sir Issac Newton On Thursday Years 6 & 7 travelled to King Edward s School, Witley to hear a lecture by Sir Issac Newton. The children learned about his life as one of the most influential scientists of all time and heard about his many scientific discoveries. Christina Tupper Not a crumb left. On Wednesday the girls in Years 6 & 7 enjoyed an afternoon of Food Tech with me in The Cookhouse. We made a family sized Chocolate and Raspberry Swiss Roll, learning many technical skills along the way! The girls were great company and all of them felt really proud of their achievements by the end of the afternoon. They took their delicious Swiss Rolls home to share with their families and I am sure there wasn't a crumb left! Cathy Anderson

The wheels on the bus (and the shopping trolley) go round and round at Little Street The Owls and Owlets had a very exciting day on Monday. It all began as they boarded the coach to Little Street, where, along the way, there were renditions of 'The Wheels on the Bus'! Once in Little Street the children, beaming with excitement, couldn't wait to explore! The Owls and Owlets transformed into: Vets, Builders, Waiters and Waitresses, Hair Dressers and Paramedics, to name a few. The favourite area, however, appeared to be the shop, where the children took turns as both shopkeeper and shopper, placing their food in the trolley, loading it onto the conveyor belt and scanning it through the till. In the vets there were lots of poorly dogs, in need of medicine and bandages. The children took great care of the animals, from when they checked into reception, all the way to the 'operating table'. Perhaps we have some budding vets among us! The children (and adults) thoroughly enjoyed the trip! Olivia Shirley

Match Reports PREP SCHOOLS' LIONS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD Eren Aydin, Kit Littlefield, Finn Slatford and Alexander Blake-Pead were all selected to attend a trial at King Edward s School, Witley, for the Prep Schools' Lions Development Football Squad, last week. The trial takes place every year with approximately 250 participants involved. Well done to Kit Littlefield, Finn Slatford and Alexander Blake-Pead who have all been informed that they have been successful. We are just waiting to hear if Eren Aydin was successful, to complete a full house. Well done to all of you. Ray Taylor Wednesday 14th November 2018 Under 10 Netball v St Andrew s (Away) Result Barfield U St Andrew s U10 We played against very strong team. Under pressure from fast players our weaknesses were capitalised on by the opposition. We found it hard to get the ball to our shooters in the circle to increase the score. I am very proud of how hard the girls tried against the odds. Well done girls! Players of the match were Julie Kimura - Young (defender) and Sofia Tinnirello (attacker) Ros Milton

Match Reports Wednesday 14th November 2018 Under 11 Football v Greenfield (Home) Results Barfield U11A 1-0 Greenfield U11A (Heaton) Barfield U11B 2-1 Barfield U11B (Davies, Camp) Barfield U11C 4-1 Barfield U11C (Babber, Brown 2, Jones) On Wednesday, the Under 11 squad took part in three fixtures against Greenfield School. All three matches were keenly contested and played in a good spirit. The A team match was fast paced, with high quality football played by both sides. It was a tight game with very few clear chances, eventually decided by corner header from Pfumo Heaton. The header, came from 10 yards out, going in off the underside of the crossbar. The B team match was equally as close. Greenfield took the lead; however, the team battled hard and equalised before scoring a late winner. In the C team match we made a fast start and were 2-0 ahead early on. The boys continued to work hard and secured the clean sweep of three victories. Well done to all involved. Man of the match for the A team - Pfumo Heaton Man of the match for the B team - Bizen Gurung Man of the match for the C team - Charlie Hughes Steve Hollands

Match Reports Thursday 15th November 2018 Under 9 Football v Greenfield (Home) Results Barfield U9A 1-5 Greenfield U9A (Horsnell) Barfield U9A 1-2 Greenfield U9A (Return match) (Lee) Barfield U9B 3-0 Greenfield U9B (Lee 3) Barfield U9B 1-2 Greenfield U9B (Return match) (Jones) On Thursday our Under 9 teams hosted Greenfield School in 2 x 7-a-side football matches. Greenfield has traditionally always been a strong Football School and we knew that this would be a tough fixture for our boys. Greenfield arrived early and we were therefore able to start our fixture on time! Each team played 20 minutes of football, which was then followed by a return match of 14 minutes duration. Our boys put on an excellent performance and, although the results did not go quite our way, they were all evenly balanced, with end-to-end play from both schools. Well done to all of the boys who played. Harrison Lee played for both the A & B teams, after swapping places with Reise Jones and managed to score 4 goals in total. Reise also featured on the scoresheet for the U9B team. I was impressed by all of our players, who showed great determination throughout. Ray Taylor

On Wednesday 14th November 2018 our group of Year 7 boys travelled to Bowenhurst Golf Course to participate in a round of golf with Mr Taylor and Mrs Goodacre. We were blessed with perfect weather conditions and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing on this beautiful 9 hole Golf Course. Some good Tee shots and putting on the green were also witnessed!
