2 The Government wanted to ensure that there was an abundance of competitive sport for pupils of all ages and abilities, so it established the School Games. School Games Level 1 Intra school competitions give all pupils the opportunity to participate competitively e.g. in class or house competitions or in a multi activity festival. These competitions are often supported by leaders from local secondary schools or by pupils in year 5/6. Each school is responsible for organising these competitions themselves. School Games Level 2 Inter school competitions give selected pupils the opportunity to compete against other schools. In the Wokingham School Games competitions, schools are responsible for entering themselves on line via a google drive link. Please note that the number of competing schools is limited so a first come first served basis will operate. Further details about each competition, including the google drive links can be found in this handbook. School Games Level 3 (multisport competition) The winning teams from the Wokingham School Games competitions will go through to represent Wokingham in the level 3 County competitions. Winter multisport School Games Festival at Bisham Abbey on Wednesday March 16th Summer multisport School Games Festival TBC Badged events the facilities at the Winter and Summer Festivals cannot accommodate all the sports, so each Badged event will take place on a different date and at a different venue.

3 Code of Conduct We are committed in Wokingham to offer a wide array of sporting opportunities to all schools and pupils, whether this is participation at events or leadership and officiating opportunities for young leaders. To create the best possible atmosphere for participants and officials we ask that players, schools, parents and staff adhere to these guidelines. We thank you for your understanding and support. Fair play for PLAYERS Be ready to start each match promptly Set a positive example for other players and supporters Play by the rules and never argue with officials Treat opponents with respect at all times, no matter what the final result Do not use inappropriate language and avoid violence and rough play Do not wear jewellery, unsuitable clothing / footwear Thank officials and opponents after each match Fair play for TEACHERS & COACHES The safety of the young people should be your priority Set a positive example for players, supporters and other staff - put the enjoyment of the pupils first Respect the officials and thank them and their assistants following each match Praise all athletes from every team for their efforts and achievements Always be positive, never shout at or ridicule players of any team Fair play for PARENTS & SUPPORTERS Remember that participation and enjoyment are more important than winning Encourage fair play and support all players Be a positive role model for participants, and other spectators (do not swear or behave inappropriately) Do not argue with officials, if you have a concern please talk to the organiser remember we all make mistakes Never ridicule any child for performing poorly Make sure your child is dressed appropriately and has plenty of water for the activity they are doing Fair play for OFFICIALS Take pride in your appearance and be a positive role model to all participants, spectators and other officials Be consistent in your decisions Help players understand the rules by explaining decisions where appropriate Ensure participants show respect for each other and for you as an official

4 Key Steps Gymnastics Age Categories Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Monday 18 th January Arrive at 12 noon for registration; pm competition Reddam House Berkshire, Bearwood Road, Wokingham, RG41 5BG Limited viewing for parents to spectate. Team of 3 or 4 gymnasts for each age group which can be all boys, all girls or mixed. The top 3 scores will be combined to give an overall team score. Eligibility Gymnasts must have been doing less than 2 hours of recreational gymnastics a week in either a school or club environment since September 2015 Gymnasts complete age appropriate set routines for floor, vault and body management. Routines available on the Bulmershe School website. Participants must undertake their routines without the assistance of their teachers, coaches or other adults, who must remain in their team base at all times.

6 Bisi Badminton Age Categories Year 3/4 Friday 5 th February Arrive at 3.45pm for registration; pm competition. Bulmershe Leisure Centre, Woodlands Avenue, Woodley, RG5 3EU NO SPECTATORS 4 boys and 4 girls Teams compete together in 8 activity stations to score points. All the points for all stations are added to make a team total, with the winning team being the one with the highest total at the end of the event. Stations are on the Bulmershe School website.

7 High Five Netball Age Categories Year 5/6 Tuesday 1 st March Arrive at 1pm for registration; pm competition Bulmershe School Netball Courts, All schools should enter The Bulmershe School by Chequers Way where the Site Team will organise where cars and minibuses should park. Please note that there will be no entry through the school's new main entrance or via 'Goals'. NO PARENTS to spectate Mixed squad of 7, 8 or 9 players. Maximum of 3 boys per squad; maximum of 2 boys on the court at any one time. N.b. a maximum of 2 boys is recommended in a squad of 7 players 5-a-side matches played on full sized courts. Players rotate after each match according to the appropriate squad rotation sheet. Rules and rotation sheets available at:

8 Orienteering Age Categories Year 5/6 Wednesday 23 rd March Arrive at 3.30pm for registration; pm competition Woodford Park, Haddon Drive, Woodley, Reading, RG5 4LY Parents welcome to attend but viewing will be restricted 12 in a team you need to have at least 4 of each gender for instance you can have 6 boys and 6 girls or 8 boys and 4 girls or 7 boys and 5 girls. The competition will be in a relay format. Pupils work in 6 pairs; each pair to find 2 controls, which they record on their control card. They return and hand over the card to the next pair to do the next 2 and so on until each pair has collected their 2 controls, and the control card is complete.
