November Dinner Nov 11th, :00pm - 8:00pm Mixed Green Salad with Vinaigrette Maple Glazed Ham Sweet Maple Mashed Potatoes Fall Medley of Mixed Vegetables Pickle Tray & Rolls Apple Crumble Tea & Coffee Total cost of the Dinner, including tips & taxes $23.00 Please leave a message with Kim at Ext 1 to reserve your table. Also I would like to thank Darlene Carrick and Florent Latour for helping us sweep, tidy up and wash around our ice area. The ice area looked great for the Travellers Zone Playdowns, we received positive comments about our club. We are always looking for volunteers to help in many parts of our club, if you have time to volunteer please head to the PCC website, Log in, click Members, on left side under Updates click Volunteers. Or contact Gord Page, myself or anyone on the Board. Social Director Debbie Pollock President's Message Well another curling season is in full swing and kudos to Reis and his team for the great ice conditions. All the work that Reis and a group of our senior men did with the piping during the off season has truly paid off, job well done. The Snack bar hours and services have been a work in progress so I ask for your patience until Kim and Jeff understand our needs and wants. It's early in the season but we already had one of our teams successfully winning the Travellers Zones playdowns and representing PCC at the provincial Traveller's Championship. Congrats to Jason Hogan, Robert Lewis, Andrew Gerrits, Josh Annett and Brant Doyle. The Board is working to keep our costs under control this year but unfortunately we have already experience a few unexpected expenses. The compressor needed a complete overhaul at a cost of $10, The well sprung a leak and while repairing it was discovered that the wiring from the building to the well was not to code and needed to be replaced at a cost of $10, The issue with the well resulted in our septic pump burning out and needs to be replaced the cost to be determined. Our building is aging so these types of repairs are to be expected. With all of these unforeseen costs it is even more important that we do some fundraising. The board has a couple of ideas but any suggestions would be much appreciated. We all need to work together to achieve our goals. Thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers who have helped around the club in so many ways, your dedication and hard work are so appreciated. Hope everyone is enjoying their season so far. Good Good Curling to All. Rose Tallevi, Club President

Ladies Section The ladies section opened the season on Tuesday October 11th with a 6-end fun curling game followed by a Luncheon and the section AGM. Section President, Joan Hogan chaired the meeting and introduced the members of this years executive committee. We are pleased to welcome 3 returning members and 5 new members, bringing our total to 78 members. The Tuesday Draw schedule has 13 teams and began Tuesday October 18. There will be 2 schedules of approximately 9 weeks. The Thursday Team Entry schedule has 14 teams and began Thursday Oct 13. This year the first schedule is a full round robin. During the second schedule, teams will be divided into A and B divisions with a full playoff schedule. During the OCA s Travelers Zone Playdowns at the club on October 22/23, last year s Thursday Team Entry champions represented PCC Ladies.(Mary Ellen Bannon, skip; Toni Rutland, vice; Sue O Marra, second and Lyne Edington, lead) The Bonspiel committee organized our first Movember Spiel held on Tuesday November 1. Sporting mustaches, all curling participants displayed good sportsmanship enjoying the two game 6-end format. Congratulations to the winning team of Joan Hogan, skip; Nancy Cavanaugh, vice; Judy Curvin, second and Sandra Mekitiak, lead. The Bonspiel committee has also planned two invitational bonspiels; the Snowflake spiel will be held on Wednesday January 11 and the Boots and Bling spiel is scheduled for Tuesday March 28. Sunday Tag All members are invited to come out and try our newest League at the Club. The Sunday Open Tag league is a fun and sociable section where everyone is rated according to their playing skills. The teams are made up on a weekly basis, from the pool of players present on that day. No need to look for a spare if you can't make it. This is a great league to practice and hone your skills, and more importantly, meet many of the curlers in the club that you wouldn't normally see. All are invited to come out and try the section 3 times before committing to the enormous $20 section fee if you have paid the unlimited member fee. Game time is 1:30 and players are requested to be there 15 minutes earlier so the draw master can make up teams. Hope to see many of you there. Dave Levecque

Advertising All members are asked and encouraged to support our sponsors and advertisers. They have all contributed to the club and without their support we would all have to bear the ever increasing costs to run our club. As well as the many advertisers at the club remember to advise your server at BOSTON PIZZA and ST. LOUIS BAR and GRILL that you are a member of the club and sign your receipt for the rewards program. The IMPRINTED APPAREL STORE also has a rewards program for our club. Be sure and mention Peterborough Curling Club when you replace your worn gripper and other curling supplies. They have a great promotion on now for new curlers or old until Dec. 1st (shoes, brush, gripper for $249.99) Advertising is an ongoing job and we are always looking for new advertisers. If you or your business are interested in joining our growing list of sponsors please get in touch with the club. As well we are always looking for help on our advertising committee. If you're interested give me a call at (705) or levecque@nexicom.net. Dave Levecque Elementary School Curling Our little known section of the club is our Elementary School Curling Program. Each Wednesday and Friday morning we have 5 schools attending for 3 fun, hour long sessions of instruction and games throughout the season. This is staffed by our many dedicated and excellent volunteers from the senior men's section. This season we expect to introduce approximately 350 grade 7 and 8 students to our great sport. All schools are invited to send 1 or 2 teams to our Elementary Bonspiel in March. As well as the school sessions each student receives a coupon to try our Junior section for 3 weeks with the hope that many will join our Juniors. It is truly great to see the youth leave the club with a big smile on their face and a thank you to all the volunteers. Men s Section BIG NEWS!!!!!! For the first time since the inception of the OCA Club Championship Event (AKA Dominion and then Traveler s), a team from our club has advanced to the Provincial Championships!!!! Congratulations to Jason Hogan, Rob Lewis, Andrew Gerrits and Brant Doyle who vanquished all comers at the Regionals with a 4-0 record. See the attached photo of our awesome entry into the Provincial Championships which was held at the Whitby Curling Club Oct 29 and 30. Team Hogan represented our club well but did not bring home another banner for the club. I hope all the guys are enjoying the food that is coming hot and fast from our kitchen after the early draws! Kim and Jeff are doing a great job supplying us with nacho and munchie platters. Men, remember that the kitchen is there for more than just platters after the game. You can come early on Mondays and Tuesdays to have a supper or snack before your game and you can also supplement your table with extra food after the early games. Members that would like to sponsor the nacho and munchie nights should contact one of the Men s executives to find out pricing options. Thanks to Brant Doyle who has stepped up as our first sponsor. He will be sponsoring 3 nights so look for his banner on s advertising those nights coming to you soon! Glenn Garneys, Men s Section President

Friday Afternoon Mixed League This year we have 19 teams playing in 2 draws every Friday Afternoon starting at 2:00 & 4:15 pm. We welcome several new members to the section including Dave & Mary Calvert, Cathy & Steve Fraser, Pat Ann & Peter Freistatter, Dave & Tina Grant, Brian Woodruff, Don Bull, Pat Clancy, Johanna Peirson & returning members Howie & Lucie Hillson. Our Xmas dinner will be begin at 7:00 pm Friday December 16 following the scheduled curling games, guests are welcome, details to follow in mid November The RBC Harris-Lowe Wealth Management Senior Mixed Bonspiel was held Saturday Nov 5 with 22 teams playing in 2 draws. Congratulations to our PCC team of Ab Doyle, Harry & Hazel Litvin & Anette Doyle the overall trophy winners. Other PCC teams finishing in the prize money were Team Bolton & Nickson. There were many compliments about our club, the ice, & food Our thanks to corporate sponsor Paul Harris-Lowe & conveners Susan & Rick Barnard, Don & Dianne Jamieson for continuing the legacy of The Art Kavanaugh Bonspiel. Pete MacLoghlin, President If you have any suggestions regarding the Rock Talk Newsletter, please contact Kelli Casselman (kcasselman@live.com).

Business Ladies Well, the Business Women s 58th curling season is off to a great start and continues to provide a social and recreational night out for its members! This year, we are excited to have some great new members join our league of veterans. We are in the process of gearing up for the hectic Christmas season and details regarding our Christmas Social activities will follow shortly. Information regarding the league schedule, section members, spares etc. can be found on the club website. Please be sure to check it out for all updates. If you are interested in sparing in our league, please be sure to add your name to the spare list on the website, we are usually in need of someone. If you know someone who would be interested in sparing who is a non-member, they may do so up to three times over the course of the season for the low fee of $10/game. I would like to wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season! Cheers,Julie Byrnes, President Senior Men Section Highlights The Senior Men Section is up and running again and it looks like another busy season ahead. Tag Curling is quite popular again, but there is always room for more curlers.come out and take the opportunity to curl and meet some curlers who are new to our club. Bob Bolton (interim Chair of our Bonspiel Committee) is keeping us busy by planning a number of Fun Spiels. The next spiel is the Senior Mens Open Skins Spiel on December 7th. Special congratulations to the winners of the first Senior Men Funspiel of the season: John Cameron, Alec Denys, Bob Mclaughlin and Ron Fetherstonaugh. Hopefully all club members are enjoying the new removable hacks that were purchased for the club by the Senior Men Section. Besides providing firm and consistent footing for curling, these hacks should help with ice maintenance, as they will allow for easier ice scraping. Also, we d like to thank Gord Schmidt and Bob Bolton for the installation of the countdown clock. Senior men s 50/50 draw (also organized by Bob Bolton) was integral in the purchase of this clock. Thanks to Dave Calvert for all his homework leading up to the purchase of this item. Some bumps still need to be ironed out, but the 1:50 time limit seems to be working thus far...thanks for your co-operation in trying to keep the games moving!! Be sure to mark December 21st on your calendars, as we will be having our annual Christmas Luncheon at noon on that day. Also, Monday Team Entry (12:30 and 3pm) are in need of spares. There is a sign-up sheet in the men s locker room. Senior men curlers looking for additional playing opportunities are encouraged to add their names to the list.

Friday Evening Mixed The season is ticking along, with everyone seeming to be settling in. We have 2 teams over full this year! A big welcome to the new members of our section. We are so glad to have you aboard. Our appetizer and dessert potluck is fast approaching on Sunday November 13th. We have 2 draws of 6 ends, with out snacks in between. We ask that each team bring 1 dessert and 1 appetizer, with enough food to feed 8 people. Please note the times on the website schedule are incorrect (we can't seem to change just those games unfortunately) - if you are scheduled on the early draw, you play at 3:45. If you curl late, please be at the club by 5:00 so we will be ready to eat when the first draw comes off the ice. Speaking of food, please consider coming out before your games to support the kitchen. Kim and Jeff are most willing to take suggestions about menu items you would like to see. When entering the club, please refrain from walking through Stonehouse Hall to get to the upper lounge and kitchen to keep cleaning costs down. That's it for now... see you on the ice! Alana From your Membership Director The Learn to Curl program for in this, our fifth season, has 40 curlers participating! Thank you to the dedicated band of on-ice instructors who are all helping to make this happen. The LTC program combined with the addition of over 100 new members to the club means there are plenty of fresh faces around the club, so make a point of introducing yourself to members you don't recognize. Information on our PCC website which new members may find useful: - Welcome Package - Learn to Curl Handouts notes on all the topics discussed in the instructional component of LTC: delivery, sweeping, rules and etiquette, and strategy. Go to: click on "New Member Information" Saturday Evening Social Curling We have rolled back time and are bringing Social Curling back to Saturday evenings! We will have the tunes blasting and the bar and kitchen will be open for snacks after the game. We are booking sheets for the event because we anticipate it could be very popular. These sessions are free for PCC members and open to the public at a cost of $10 per person. We encourage you to come out and bring friends and family to this fun evening of curling! Please contact Kevin Casselman at (705) or the office to book a sheet. The dates for the five scheduled Social Curling sessions are as follows: December 10, January 14, February 4, 25, March 11 Snofest PCC will, once again, be participating in the annual Peterborough Winter Carnival, Snofest, on Saturday, January 14th. We will be holding a Funspiel for our LTC participants with 2 six end games. Between draws the public will be invited to try their hand at curling and learn the basics. Free admission to the general public! In closing, I would like to thank our members for the endless volunteer hours you put in! We have a club to be proud of and YOU make it so! Kevin Casselman, Membership Director Reminder check your equipment! Replace worn grippers and broom heads when necessary. Worn grippers are a safety concern and dirty grippers and broom heads can cause problems on our fresh ice!

Juniors Hello all junior curlers. Junior curling is well under way. Juniors started curling on October 16 but new curlers are welcome to still join our program every Sunday from 10am to 12:30pm. It s never too late to join. All you need is a good pair of runners with good rubber soles and warm clothing and we supply the rest. We will provide instructions for new curlers and refreshers for regular curlers. So if you have any kids, nephews, nieces, grandkids or friends that would like to give curling a try bring them out on a Sunday morning. If you have any questions me at enzotarantino1@gmail.com ********Sponsor Spotlight******** This month we begin a new segment to the Rock Talk by spotlighting one of our many sponsors. We begin with Robert Cote Glass Services. Rob and Louise began a business in 1989 installing windows and other renovation projects. His early works can be seen in many commercial and residential buildings in the city including the windows here in our lounge. In 1998 Rob began specializing exclusively in glass shower installations. He does all of his own designs and installations to the clients specifications. Louise is the backbone of the company by taking care of the business end in the office. Rob moved to Peterborough from Toronto when he was 4 and Louise has lived here all her life. They both joined our club many years ago, starting in the Social Section and then the Friday Night Mixed Section. They passed their love of our game on to their son Andrew, who now plays on one of our Bantam Teams. Rob gives back to the community as a long time member of the Kinsman Club and was also a Beaver Leader in one of our local Scout Groups. You can contact Robert Cote Glass Services at rcoteglass@cogeco.ca or calling them at or
