Larry has served for 17 years as president after serving two years as treasurer. His retirement marks the end of an era for the Anglers Club. Under Larry s leadership, and with the help of many member-volunteers, the club has grown to almost 800 members and expanded the annual invitational surffishing team tournament that is now considered the largest of its kind in the world. The tournament has been complimented by participants as the best-run tournament they have competed in. Congratulations to Larry on a job well done and a retirement well deserved. Officers who have agreed to be nominated by the Nominating Committee are: Bill Vancura as President; and Pat Weston, Recording Secretary. Also agreeing to be nominated as Directors are Sue Glass, Larry Griffin, Wayne Mathis and Ray Schaaf. According to the Anglers Club By-Laws, all nominees must be current members of the Anglers Club for the preceding 12 months and be residents of Hatteras Island. Terms will run for two years, from Jan. 1, 2017 through Dec. 31, HATTERAS VILLAGE CHRISTMAS PARADE The Cape Hatteras Anglers Club will again have a float in the Hatteras Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 10. In its 25 th year, the parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Teach s Lair Marina and proceed up the highway to the Hatterasman Drive In. Club members taking part in the parade will assemble at the Anglers Club at noon on parade day. Call Kay Knowles at if you wish to participate. BINGO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We badly need more members to volunteer to help out at Bingo nights this coming year. You only need to help out one Wednesday evening a month through May, then every other Wednesday for the summer into October. We have two teams of volunteers that alternate each Bingo night. Jobs include selling cards and door-prize tickets, verifying winners and helping in the kitchen. It s a good way to meet other Anglers Club members and work for a good cause.

3 If you are unable to help out, then please come and play. It s lots of fun and can be profitable! All three jackpot games will be given away on Dec. 14, during our last Bingo night of Our doors open at 6 pm and games begin at 7 pm. Snacks, drinks and free coffee are available. Our Bingo nights help fund our scholarship program and help enable us to donate to other Hatteras Island non-profit organizations. We will have the 2017 Bingo schedule available next month. Fishing was allowed only in the surf of Hatteras Island. All fish were judged by weight only. November Fishing Report By Milt Clapp The 59 th Annual Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament kicked off the month with a good day of fishing on Thursday Nov.3 followed by a bad day of fishing with rain, north winds and high surf on Friday. The month started out slow, but from Nov 1 st on we have had Blue Fish hitting the beach in ever increasing numbers all the way from Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Inlet. The water temps are finally starting to drop and the Pompano have all but disappeared from the surf. Red Drum in all sizes were being caught from about mid-october till now but there has been a marked increase in the number of slot sized and larger ones caught during the last two weeks of this month. When the wind is out of the NE they have begun to stack up on the bar on the north end of Ocracoke, and the rest of the time they are spread up and down the island. Most of the really big citation-size fish have been caught over the last three weeks just after dark and during the night on the Point. Cut mullet has been the bait of choice. The Speckled Trout fishing has been improving for the last three weeks in the normal holes, particularly along the beaches south of the Point. Anglers have been successful using Grubs and Tails for them. Flounder fishing also has improved slightly with a few nice fish over the 15 minimum and a few over 20 If you are willing to put in the time walking the beach looking for them, and if the wind and water are right. They have also been catching Blow Toads and Sea Mullet in good numbers depending on the wind and weather plus plentiful skates, rays and sharks. Overall the fishing is beginning to get much better and will probably improve till we have some really long periods of cold weather and the water temp drops drastically!
