7 P A G E 7 INFORMATION HONORING OUR MILITARY VETERANS A monument honoring our military service branches stands next to the starter shack and driving range. We thank the Couples Golf League for making that possible. And now, the Garden Club will be enhancing the area around the monument with pavers honoring our military veterans. Each Military Veteran Paver will display the name and brief information about someone who served in the military. We will be taking orders during the winter, and the pavers will be installed at the end of the season in We have used a photo of Marine Corps SGT Larry O Shea s paver to show you the design. Gift idea: The Garden Club will provide a gift card that you can wrap up and use for a Christmas or Holiday gift, or for other occasions, to announce this gift to the veteran you designate. Pricing and cost saving opportunity: The Garden Club has also been selling the Legacy Walk Pavers the past few seasons, and will continue to do so. Consider these cost saving opportunities: The base price for the Military Paver is $150. If you have already purchased a Legacy Paver, the price for the Military Paver is only $100. In the future, if you purchase either a Legacy Paver or Military Veteran Paver at full price, the other paver is available for the reduced price of $100, either immediately or at a later date. Answers to possible questions: Renters are eligible to purchase Military Veteran and Legacy Pavers. Pavers honoring the military service of close family members not resident at KG may be purchased. We welcome the purchase of pavers honoring veterans of Canada and other allies of the United States. The Garden Club uses proceeds from this and other fundraising efforts to enhance important visual enhancements around the club including planters and plantings, fountains, vases, plant labels, etc. ROAD SAFETY REMINDERS AT KELLY GREENS Driving - Please observe the 25-m.p.h. speed limit and all stop signs. Also, please be mindful and respectful of walkers and bicyclists on the roadways. Walking - Please walk on sidewalks wherever they are available. In the absence of sidewalks, walk single file, close to the curb, facing oncoming traffic. Jogging, Running & Rollerblading - It is far safer to use the sidewalks wherever they are available. If sidewalks are not present or you feel you must jog, run or rollerblade on our streets, please do so single file, close to the curb, facing oncoming traffic. Bicycling - Please ride in the street, single file, close to the curb, in the same direction as traffic. Helmets strongly urged. Bicyclists and walkers are required to use the pedestrian gates located at every entrance. Keys are available for purchase in the Kelly Greens Executive Office for $ The office is open Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. If you already have a pedestrian gate key it will still work, no need for a new one. Please understand this is for your safety

9 P A G E 9 GOLF As we welcome everyone back to Kelly Greens for another season, please be reminded there has been changes made to our Golf Handicap System. Kelly Greens is now using the GHIN System. Many of you use the same system at your summer location. If you plan to participate in any Kelly Greens Club Tournaments or Leagues (Not Men s 9 or Couples leagues), you must link your current GHIN number to KG. If you do not have a GHIN number you will need to establish one. In both instances, please contact the Golf Shop for direction. The club incurs a cost from the USGA for each active member in our system as does your summer location. If you plan to just play Fun Golf and do not require the handicap needed to play in KG Tournaments/Leagues, please advise the Golf Shop and be added to the inactive list, incurring no annual charges. It is a win-win, you have fun and the club saves money. 10 P A G E 10 GOLF From the Golf Shop Weekly Golfer Reminder For the next few weeks, we will be exploring Golf's New Rules changes for 2019 Golf's New Rules: Relaxed Putting Green Rules 1. Repair of Damage - The major change on the putting greens is that you will be allowed to repair spike marks and damage caused by animals, shoes or maintenance practices. You may NOT repair natural surface imperfections, aerification holes, and diseased areas. 2. Touching Line of Play - The putting green may be touched with a hand, club, foot, club, flagstick, etc. to point out your line of play. or where to aim. 3. Leaving Flagstick in Hole - New for 2019 is that players may leave the flagstick in the hole when their ball is on the putting green and there is no penalty when the ball strikes the flagstick (when left in the hole) 4. Ball striking removed flagstick or equipment - When a stroke is made from the putting green and the ball strikes a removed flagstick, any equipment, any movable obstructions, an animal, or any person (besides someone attending the flagstick) there is no penalty, the stroke is canceled and must be replayed. For more information on the new rule changes for 2019, please go to Players, remember the Rule's changes are for 2019

The first Ladies Tennis Social was awesome! Lynn Longmire, Rhonda Landry and Vikki Linder were tremendous organizers! We had 28 ladies participate, with 23 that played. We ran Fast Four rules, and everyone had a good time. Our kitchen served fantastic flatbreads and drinks. I m curious to hear the feedback from the survey that was ed. There are 3 more planned in January, February and March! After this social, I d like to see if we can also arrange a mixed social as well. The Silver team started their season with a bang last week. They continued their dominance on Friday taking all four courts. This time it wasn t so easy. However, they prevailed and remain in first place in their division! The 2.5 team is still having issues filling courts. As members return, they should start winning. They have been playing well, but just seem to come up short. The Bronze team split this week. They are middle of the pack and once more teammates return should rise towards the top of the division. The 3.5 minus team hosted Cape Coral Yacht Club. They only won court 3, but they played a very strong team. They continue to outperform considering they are, rating wise, one of the weaker teams in that division. The men started Monday. The White team jumped up to the B division. They split with Forest and then Celebrated Jerry Hubbard s 75th birthday in style! The new Blue B team hosted Crown Colony. They split and remain in the middle of the pack. The Blue D team moved up from the E division and ran into a buzzsaw. The Heritage Cove team that finished second in their division last year decided to get some revenge. They are hopeful for improvement. Steve Homewood will rally the troops! The 7.5 mixed lost all three in the first week, the evened it out by sweeping all three this last week. They won all 3 matches in tiebreakers! Come out Saturday to see them play Arborwood. If you want to participate in the clinics, the sign up is on the large White Board by Court 1. The clinics will be $15 per person. I wish to limit the clinics to 4-6 per court. If necessary, I will bring in pros if we have too many signed up. The ladies may sign up for Monday, Wednesday, or Friday clinics. Men s Clinic is on Thursday at 10 am. Most captains will let you know which clinic will be best for you. Private lessons will be $65 per hour for members and $70 per hour for non-members. These prices reflect the same as Lee County Recreation s prices. I hope to see you out on the courts.
