1 President s Message: Raising Awareness Thank you to all of our members (current and potential), sponsors and vendors for attending our 2015 kick-off. It was great to connect with friends again and I look forward to seeing many of you on the golf course in the not too distant future. Also I would like to thanks all of the volunteers who helped make the kick-off a success and who worked in the off-season to set up all of the leagues and events for our upcoming season. Our chapter theme for 2015 is Raising Awareness within our community of the EWGA in general and the Chicago metro chapter in particular. To make this a success we need the help of all our current members. A summary of the information provided at the kick-off is as follows: Understand your membership benefits; tangibles and intangibles. Check out the benefits tab on our homepage for further information. This ensures that you take advantage of the range of membership benefits offered and will help you share this knowledge with prospective members. Wear EWGA logoed clothing. Place your order for an EWGA Chicago Metro shirt via our website by April 2 nd. There is a choice of 10 colors, in sizes ranging from XS to 5X. Note that if you are planning on playing in this year s EWGA Cup match play tournament, this will be the team uniform; the team colors are white and cardinal red. You can order this shirt individually via the national website, but it will not have the chapter name and after tax and shipping it will cost you around $50 versus $40 for the chapter shirt.

2 Volunteer as a golf course ambassador. A number of courses in the area will be offering clinics and Get Golf Ready programs of which a high percentage of the participants are women. We will be looking for volunteers to connect with the teaching pros and provide information on EWGA. Display EWGA logoed items; fly the flag Sign up for one of 2 LPGA Clinics in the Chicago area; discounted rates offered. The clinics are scheduled for Monday August 3 rd at Ivanhoe CC in Mundelein and Monday September 28 th at Westmoreland CC in Wilmette. In return for the discounted rate we ask that you promote the EWGA by wearing EWGA logoed clothing and talking about what we have to offer within your group. These clinics are suitable for all skill levels from novice to advanced. Deadline for taking advantage of the discounted rate is April 21 st. Place postcards on a community message board. We are working on getting postcards printed and ask that you pin them on message boards within your communities such as place of employment, place of worship, gymnasiums etc. Postcards when available will be distributed at golf events and through league site captains. Place posters on golf course message boards. Posters have been distributed to league site captains for display at the golf courses where we play through the 2015 season. 3 Our guest speaker at the kick-off was Donna Strum, Executive Director of RevelationGolf. Donna shared with us a number of inspirational stories about individuals who have benefitted from the help and support offered by this organization. To learn more visit Their 10 th annual golf fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday June 18 th at Makray Memorial; a number of our members have participated in past years and speak very highly of this event. If your schedules allow please consider participating. Here Donna had us experience what it s like to play with only one leg. And this is what it looks like when you donate your 50/50 winnings! 4 Education Corner By Kelly Storm If you are planning ahead for spring outdoor clinics, Makray golf course, in Barrington, is hosting three EWGA golf clinics. The clinics will cover a variety of topics and will be held from 9:30 am - 11:00 am on April 26 th and May 9 th. A third clinic will be held in the evening on May 20 th from 5:00 pm - 6:30. Attention new golfers and new members - Chicago Metro EWGA has a new, beginning golfer league at Sugar Creek this season. Registration is open and can be found on the web site under leagues. New League at Palatine Hills! A fun Friday night golfing opportunity for advanced beginners, all skill levels welcome. This league is planned for every other week. Course is great for walkers. No frills league - just fun. Foursomes will be random and created when we arrive at the course. Course has a driving range for warm up and a great patio for cool down after the round. For NEW MEMBERS, Chicago Metro EWGA is hosting a new member night at Top Golf. The event will be held on Thursday evening, April 23. Registration is open. For more details visit the web site. 5 Events, Events, and More Events By Sue Miller Spring Fling is usually held on the first Sunday of May. We are trying something new this year. We are having 2 Just Golf Events on that day. One North, and one South. Both on Sunday May 3 rd : 9:30 Tee times at Broken Arrow in Lockport, IL $35 to walk and $52 to ride 18 holes. Noon Tee times at Sportsmans in Northbrook, IL $40 to walk and $58 to ride 18 holes. 6 National EWGA Events EWGA 2015 Championship: The EWGA Championship started in It has grown to be the largest women s amateur golf competition in the world and we want YOU to be a part of the fun and excitement. Members of all skill levels are encouraged to compete so give the Championship a try and put your game to the test! Chapter Championship: July 12 Bartlett Hills Golf Club Upper Midwest Semi-Finals: Aug 22 Thornberry Creek at Oneida, Green Bay, WI Finals: Oct Westin Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage, CA EWGA 2015 Cup: The EWGA Cup is an amateur match play competition conducted under the direction of the EWGA Association Headquarters (EWGA). Competition is conducted in two stages of play: Cup Qualifier 18 holes of Four-Ball and 18 holes of Singles completed over 2 days to determine the teams that will advance to The Cup Finals. 8 Member Survey STILL TIME TO FILL IT OUT, CHECK YOUR INBOX! We hope you will take a few minutes to give us your feedback on our pre-season, member survey. The survey was sent to each member via and you can easily complete it online. The results of this survey will be used by the Board to help tailor future programs and events offered by the Chicago Metro Chapter. With your feedback, we can continue to enhance and improve your experience as a member of EWGA Chicago! You can also indicate your volunteer interests as part of the survey. Throughout the season, there will be various opportunities to help out with golf and social events, organize Just Golf outings, serve on a Board committee, and come August, we will be seeking nominations for those interested in serving on next year s Board. We hope you will get involved it s fun and a great way to expand your network of friends both on and off of the golf course. Is It Time to Renew Your Membership? At this time of year, many of us are due to renew our EWGA membership for the season. Going online to is a quick and easy way to renew. When you log into your account online and go to the Membership Renewal section, you will see an invoice on your record dated November Last November, an invoice for 2015 dues was placed on every member s record who is due to renew from January through June Once you make your renewal payment, your membership expiration date will move forward one full year to If you do not wish to renew online, you can submit a renewal form either by mail or fax to EWGA headquarters. You can download a paper renewal form by visiting EWGA s website If you want to add a second Chapter (a dual membership) to your record, send an to mailto:member@myewga.com or call the toll free number at x10. Ask that the second Chapter be added for you and pay the $35 fee for the dual membership.
